Magic Mask was one of the core reasons I switched to Resolve. Having Fusion built in makes it so simple to apply a roto effect. AE does hold it's own with the 'refine edge' tool that Resolve is sorely lacking. But the ease of essentially having an AE like software (Fusion) built into your editing software, is a workflow I can't imagine giving up now.
I usually just don't even touch Fusion for Magic Mask. Instead I duplicate the layer I apply Magic Mask on and sandwich whatever I want to show behind in-between these two layers.
Great comparison! I left AE and Premiere for Davinci Resolve Fusion, but I got to admit that I sometimes miss AEs and Premieres plugins and addons. Overall I'm pretty happy with the Switch. Left a year ago and DR has more than paid for itself. The one thing that kept me from switching was the 3d Camera Tracker, AE's version is so much faster and easier to use than Resolves, but on the other hand once you get the hang of it on Resolve, the point cloud is so much better for VFX.
checkout reactor for fusion. the 3d tracker in ae is much easier but it's much less powerful and has a lot less going on for complex shots. fusion's tracker works exactly like every other pro compositing software like nuke or even dedicated tracking software used in the vfx industry such as 3d equalizer, pftrack, syntheyes etc.
I love love love resolve...I started with resolve and I do everything on resolve but honestly when it comes to magic mask and rotobrush 3.0, I have to give it to rotobrush 3.0
everyone ignore how slow adobe is like time does not matter!! resolve magicmask is almost realtime and very fast takes little time after effect on the other hand no matter what hardware you have it is slow and one frame at time...
Most video editors are fine for movies - the editor you use depends on which studio you go to work at. Davinci Resolve is probably best for movie makers in 2023.
In Hollywood, Avid Media Composer. And some uses Final Cut Pro. In Indie movies, it's mainly Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro, but DaVinci Resolve is gaining ground, as it's an all-in-one solution.
Thanks for having me on this channel! It was a lot of fun working with you!
You freakin rock my bro. Everyone needs to subscribe to your channel 🔥🔥
@@Olufemii What about RunwayML?
I'm surprised. I thought you were going to bash Resolve. I think that was a very fair comparison. And I have respect for both tool having seen this.
