    Excellent tips. Breaking the form down into chunks seems more work at first but really saves time overall.

      Yes! It may seem like you have to set up a lot of stuff at first, but the chunks will really save you down the line.

    You’ve done a great job on this. However, I’m really surprised you’re not utilizing Mocha AE.
    Its tracking is so good, fast, and manipulating mask is so much more efficient in Mocha.
    Guess we all have our comfort zones.
    Cheers

    Great tips. So do you make a new solid for tracking each new mask area ? Or do would you build all the new masks inside the one solid Layer ? I couldn't see from this video how you go on to start building the multiple combined masks after making the first one. I.e. after rotoing the backpack on the solid layer do you make a new solid layer for each additional mask area ?

    These are good general tips. but don't roto any long scenes (or really anything) with AE mask, it's the most complicated process. Use mocha's built in version, or rotobrush if you don't mind it looking messy. Using default AE masks will always be a headache compared to literally anything else.

    I found this amazing and very precise. Could you help me with something Im in doubt? Do you duplicate the video source for each rotoscope mask to add alpha matte? Thank you in advance :)

    • @ActionVFXofficial
      @ActionVFXofficial  2 роки тому

      It depends! Usually we like to combine all the different mask layers into one precomposition, that way we only need to alpha matte one layer of the footage instead of duplicating it multiple times for every mask layer!

      Thanks for the question! Creating an alpha of each person is done by rotoscoping one from scratch, so you would still need to find the edges on your own. Hope this was helpful!

    But you can track Masks in AE! :) ---> right click on the mask in the Layer --> Track mask

    • @ActionVFXofficial
      @ActionVFXofficial  3 роки тому +2

      Yes, good thinking! but the track mask feature baked the track data to the points/mask path, instead of to separate transform values, so you have to go frame-by-frame if you want to make adjustments to the mask :)

    • @patfish3291
      @patfish3291 3 роки тому

      @@ActionVFXofficial I know, but you can track mask direct in AE :-) for things like the back bag this function will work fine. But you are right it's all backed in. I don't get why we have no smooth function to kill not important keys or have uber-keys like in Mocha to animate some mask points on top (second animation layer).

    i don't understand why it's better to use multiple masks instead of one mask, someone can explain pls ?

    • @ActionVFXofficial
      @ActionVFXofficial  3 роки тому +2

      Using multiple masks makes it easier to organize, if you have one big shapes with lots of points, that means one simple keyframe mistake would affect the entire shape. but if you break it up to multiple masks, if one part of the roto isnt working, you can just delete that mask without affecting the rest of the roto.
      also, multiple masks allow you to edit them individually, like adding tracking data :)

      @@ActionVFXofficial i think i am starting to understand but using multiple masks is not available if you make it manually like animating your masks frame by frame ? (What i actually do)

    Hmmm... DaVinci Resolve doing better job for only $300 total, not monthly/yearly subscription fee. After Effects is very expensive. And try to rotoscope motion blur videos. Good luck with After effect, not working properly. Aside that, DaVinci Resolve uses GPU for this task - much faster. And works very well with motion blur videos.

      Why is there always one person that has to comment about DR? Lmao. No one asked. I use both and still prefer after effects. If 20$ a month is expensive then you should maybe look to a new hobby. This industry isn’t cheap.

    • @YAXHY
      @YAXHY 6 місяців тому

      @@Richard_LeonDo you prefer AE for the workflow or what is the reason. I have just the free version of davinci but the magic mask by itself could make me get the full version.

    • @Richard_Leon
      @Richard_Leon 6 місяців тому

      @@YAXHY i prefer after effects 100%, but because I use photoshop and premier so the integration is smooth and convenient. Personally I don’t like resolve and I have zero issues with premier and after effects. I’ve started using nuke as well to learn a more professional work flow. Magic mask is great. And I think if you are on a budget or just a self taught content creator or business owner then resolve is fine. It doesn’t matter which you use at the end of the day as long as you become proficient in one and work on improving. Period.
