    Would like to add, cam sprocket bolt torque is 50 ft lbs for up to year 98. Year 99 and after is 80 ft lbs due to different bolt type.

    I would suggest using the Cloyes 9-3127 it is a double roller set that is center distance corrected with ZERO chain slack. I just installed this on my 2.5 TJ. You can also advance the timing 4 degrees for more low end torque. Premium components!

    I bought a crate motor that would not rev past 3500. Pulled the timing cover off and my timing marks were lined up but the cam was opposite side of crank. Would that cause the problem or just make it that the distributor would need to be installed 180 out?

    I have a question about the cam bearings I noticed that the 3rd cam bearing in has 2 oil holes
    I got my son's block back from the machine shop and the 3rd one in has 2 holes in it, but only one hole is lined up with the a oil galley hole. Have you had any cam issues with your rebuild

    hey dale! build is coming along nicely.. slow but nicely, i have an 05TJ with the 4.0 and its been running pretty bad for a while goes into limp mode after its warmed up and occasionally misses (runs fine right to redline before it reaches temp though) the engine light says the crank position and cam position sensor dont match up ive replaced the crank sensor and pulled the oil pump drive to check for any issues with the cam sensor and reinstalled properly to no avail.. any ideas jeep only had 140,000 Kilometers on it thats less than 100k miles seems a shame to throw a new timing set at it already

    Hey there! I see you said to torque to 80 ft lbs. I torqued it down and the head of the bolt sheered off. Went online to do some more research and it says the spec is 50 ft lbs. anybody had this problem?

    • @JeepSolid
      @JeepSolid  3 роки тому

      Man, that sucks. Sorry bout that. I double checked both my manuals, Chilton and Haynes. They both say 80. Where did you find 50? But 50 or 80 shouldn’t have sheered it off. My guess would be your bolt was close to failure for some reason.

      Don't use gasket maker with gasket. Use one or the other not both. RTV can lubricate gasket and cause it to "squidge" out. Have seen many shade tree repairs fail for this reason.

    • @EarthtonesCymbals
      @EarthtonesCymbals 3 роки тому

      Yeah scooter...my thoughts exactly. A gasket is the seal between the components. In the absence of a gasket, RTV or gasket maker can be used. Now, I have seen a thin, and I mean thin, coat of Indian Head used with a gasket but that was more for holding the gasket in place while assembling. Also overlooked was pre oiling the timing chain. That is always a good thing to do.

If you look at other videos the chain is always tight with little or no slack in it. The chain in this video had to much slack to use. The factory says the chain should be replaced after 60k miles. I thought I had a rod knocking until I turned the crank by had and I heard my timing chain slapping, since I installed a new chain I can't even hear a tick in the engine. 260k 2001 xj
