I remember watching this on a pirate vhs before it was released .. the whole street came into our house to watch it.. amazing memories of everyone cheering for Rocky in the 1st fight with Clubber then everyone crying when Micky died.. everyone loved Rocky 3...
Good old days of vhs, rentals and neighbourhoods having a sense of community. Flicking through the huge library of movies at your local rental, deciding what snacks to buy to go with it and calling your friends round to make it an occasion for the night. Now stuff like this is a disposable, solitary experience, with streaming, downloads, able to watch on a 5 inch screen, in public, with headphones on. And with property prices so high that people renting and sharing accommodations come and go, that you don't know the people on your street, that you might have lived nearly all your life on. What a shame...
It's honestly my favorite one. The fact the villain of the last two films now becomes a trainer and a long time friend is an awesome twist that works so well. 4 is a lot of fun, but this one is easily my favorite.
I never really took the Rocky movies as "boxing" movies, but a journey of a man's life, I thought all the Rocky movies were great, Sly is as charismatic as an actor gets. I could watch all of them again and again. The street fight in 5 was great.

Mr. T is why Rocky 3 my favorite. Dude was just too alpha for this film. The way he beat Rocky in the first battle was exactly how I thought it would go 🤣😂😅
The problem is once he became champion, he got a little too cocky for his own good and took the second fight he had with Rocky much too lightly. In his mind, he thought it was going to be a cakewalk like the first fight. Rocky showed him otherwise and gave him his first and only humbling defeat. Clubber was never seen nor heard from after that.
Well Clubber was right in feeling disrespected, he threw it right back at everybody. He doesn’t have any reverence for great boxers of the past. According to Stallone, Clubber would become a born again Christian (much like the real Mr. T) and become a ringside announcer. They were gonna use him in Rocky Balboa, but opted not to. The only actor I want to see play the son of Clubber Lang is Chadwick Boseman.
Clubber was a power hitter, not a jabber. He was like a tank, just rolled forward and smashed anyone foolish enough to stand in his path. Rocky was also a Tank as we know.

Mr. T apparently told Stallone when auditioning when asked why he wants this part that he's been Clubber Lang all his life.

Most experts doubt it. Well those experts shouldn't be doubting Rocky. They weren't aware he wasn't at his best during the first match with Clubber. Rocky had Mickey, who had his doubts Rocky could win, & cautioned him about the fight, & Apollo who gave Rocky the right motivation.
Prior to being trained by Apollo, Rocky was always intimidated prior to a fight, looking down or not looking directly into his opponents eyes (the two Creed fights and the first Clubber fight). Afterwards, he would not be intimidated and always stared right back at them (rematch with Clubber, matches with Drago and Dixon).
I still have to say Clubber Lang was thee best Villain in The Rocky Series. His trash talk, and aggressive demeanor. I hope they make a Creed III and bring back Clubber Lang! And have his son fight Adonis and trash talk Rocky even more.
Rayshard, Rocky III is my favorite of the series. T had a big part to do with it but Sly, Carl Weathers, Burgess Meredith, even Hulk Hogan, all of them made this movie fun!
I was 9 when this movie came out and then I didn't understand it, but now that I've gotten older I realize that Apollo was speaking facts. When the fight is over a whole lot of people are going to owe Rocky an engraved apology.
I know the movie is essentially about Rocky Balboa…but I can’t help it…I’ve always wanted to see what would have happened if Apollo and Clubber fought. An interesting fight stylistically.
Either way, Apollo would be brutally knocked out by Clubber, or, at best (for those who are fans of the character) Apollo would beat Clubber on points.
He always talked trash.. He was in a show about the toughest bouncer. I saw that show and was like this guy right here is going to be a star. Next thing i know he was cast in Rocky 3. Then as the best character in a t.v. show ever, B.A. Baracus in the A-TEAM. His own cartoon show, Lunch boxes. Other movies. Mr T was everywhere.
And that is why he lost. Don't talk tough, be tough. He should have said "Good, let him try again. I wish him luck." When asked about Apollo training him "Creed lost to Balboa, so being trained by a rookie trainer that got beat by him seems like a mistake, but if that is what he wants to do. I wish him even more good luck. He is going to need it."
While Drago was the most intimidating, Clubber was the most entertaining, he was all about the trash talking and attitude. He knew how to push buttons. It reminded me of the trash talking pro wrestlers did back then, it was fun to watch.
This was 37 years ago. 34 was aged in boxing, even if there were examples of those (Archie Moore being a prime example) of having solid careers after their primes.
Athletes get to their athletic prime somewhere between the ages of 26-32. After 32 is where there starts to be a slight decline in athletic ability for most athletes, but it can vary from person to person. But even after going over that peak or "over the hill" an athlete can still be competitive for a few years after. It is not until the late 30's/early 40's when most athletes become so far over the hill that they can no longer be competitive and that is when most retire.

Most experts doubt it. Well those experts shouldn't be doubting Rocky. They weren't aware he wasn't at his best during the first match with Clubber. Rocky had Mickey, who had his doubts Rocky could win, & cautioned him about the fight, & Apollo who gave Rocky the right motivation.

Prior to being trained by Apollo, Rocky was always intimidated prior to a fight, looking down or not looking directly into his opponents eyes (the two Creed fights and the first Clubber fight). Afterwards, he would not be intimidated and always stared right back at them (rematch with Clubber, matches with Drago and Dixon).
Best Rocky villain. Period.

I still have to say Clubber Lang was thee best Villain in The Rocky Series. His trash talk, and aggressive demeanor. I hope they make a Creed III and bring back Clubber Lang! And have his son fight Adonis and trash talk Rocky even more.
Rayshard, Rocky III is my favorite of the series. T had a big part to do with it but Sly, Carl Weathers, Burgess Meredith, even Hulk Hogan, all of them made this movie fun!

The redemption angle had a big part with this movie as well. I took the message personally.
I was 9 when this movie came out and then I didn't understand it, but now that I've gotten older I realize that Apollo was speaking facts. When the fight is over a whole lot of people are going to owe Rocky an engraved apology.

I know the movie is essentially about Rocky Balboa…but I can’t help it…I’ve always wanted to see what would have happened if Apollo and Clubber fought. An interesting fight stylistically.
Either way, Apollo would be brutally knocked out by Clubber, or, at best (for those who are fans of the character) Apollo would beat Clubber on points.
Mr T is so scary and awesome in this film, its the one time I was really scared for Rocky.
Rocky is just seating there, thinking, "l should've just let Clubber have Adrian".

He always talked trash.. He was in a show about the toughest bouncer. I saw that show and was like this guy right here is going to be a star. Next thing i know he was cast in Rocky 3. Then as the best character in a t.v. show ever, B.A. Baracus in the A-TEAM. His own cartoon show, Lunch boxes. Other movies. Mr T was everywhere.

And that is why he lost. Don't talk tough, be tough. He should have said "Good, let him try again. I wish him luck." When asked about Apollo training him "Creed lost to Balboa, so being trained by a rookie trainer that got beat by him seems like a mistake, but if that is what he wants to do. I wish him even more good luck. He is going to need it."

While Drago was the most intimidating, Clubber was the most entertaining, he was all about the trash talking and attitude. He knew how to push buttons. It reminded me of the trash talking pro wrestlers did back then, it was fun to watch.

34 is over the hill? Um... three out of the last six lineal heavyweight champs were older than that.
I guess it's condition. But most athletes are old by that age. Remember these athletes start in their teenage years.
This was 37 years ago. 34 was aged in boxing, even if there were examples of those (Archie Moore being a prime example) of having solid careers after their primes.
Im 42 so if 34 is over the hill I been over the hill for a while now I think I'll be over the hill in just not old yet

Athletes get to their athletic prime somewhere between the ages of 26-32. After 32 is where there starts to be a slight decline in athletic ability for most athletes, but it can vary from person to person. But even after going over that peak or "over the hill" an athlete can still be competitive for a few years after. It is not until the late 30's/early 40's when most athletes become so far over the hill that they can no longer be competitive and that is when most retire.
Clubber was the # 1 villain from all the rocky series balboa couldnt beat him with his style so he needed change style with the help of apollo !
