    In this video I'm going to show you how to replace a belt on a single stage snow
    blower. what I'm showing you in this video specifically is how it's done on an MTD but, this repair can be done exactly like this on quite a few other snow blowers in the same manner in which I show it. Such as Toro ariens craftsman and others. I'm going to put a link in the description above for the belt that's required for this snow blower and all ow blowers that are manufactured by MTD that look like this. The repair is
    quite simple and does it take but approximately 15 minutes using basic hand tools. I hope this video helps you out and thanks for watching.

    Thank you for making the video. I was attempting to get my in law's blower running for them and came to this video to see if you recommended a belt seeing I tried another that was supposed to fit, but was way too long. I purchased the one from your link, and it is good to go! *side thank you for telling us about the short screw - I did not notice that when I pulled the cover. Happy New Year to you, and yours!

    Hey its not the belt so much. It's the motor pully, the pully is to wide. causing slip.

    SIZE OF THE BELT

    I was sold the same size belt made by tuff belt so the guy at the lawn mower sno blower shop said is the same but cheaper well I put in on and the auger wont stop turning and seems to already put a rip in the belt I am going to try and see if adjustment is needed and I could at least get by this super bowl sunday because we are expecting a huge storm again here in N.E. Ohio,i guess that 10 dollar savings for not buying the original MTD belt was not a savings after all..the guy said its a common belt it is the same,well like said when I fired her up the augers wont disengage so back ou to th garage in temps I do not care to be out in but bug momma has to be aboe to get out come Monday morning,and the 1st reason the belt that was 15 yrs old wore out and frayed,thanks for the video black parmasian you must also be a pisano or just a lover of Italian food as we are ha ha

      Yeah love my pasta.. There are a lot of cheaper belts that come close and it all depends on the equipment that you are working on if those "other" belts will work k. I know from experience that with this snow blower you are better off buying OEM. for the extra 10 bucks, once every 15 years, I want the ease of use and piece of mind. The owner called me again after he used it and said it hasn't worked that we'll for years. We are lucky this time around. Most of the storm you mentioned is a little North of us(Columbiana county).. Good luck..

      Never seen a V-belt app with that much deflection when engaged.I don't know anything about that unit, but I've done lots of v-belts on lots of different machines. New belt would automatically work better than the old even if loose because it grips better. However, it stretches quickly first time use and should be readjusted or else would wear quickly.

    Great vid !!! I have a single stage 4 stroke, I just bought it 2 weeks ago, used it only 3 times, and it wont throw snow any more. I t starts and runs fine, the auger turns but once it hits snow the auger stops spinning, Any thoughts ?

    • @Foxboss9

      David Pedder belt.. OR belt tensioner spring..

      Check to see if the fuel line is clogged. When the governor kicks in there isn't enough fuel getting to the carb. A lot of times, with two stroke fuel, the gas evaporates leaving oil sludge on the bottom of the fuel tank clogging the fuel line.

    Tanks for the teaching video, but I replace my belt and the auger is spinning constantly, it looks like the belt is a little to tight. Can you please tell me what to do ?

    • @Foxboss9
      @Foxboss9  6 років тому

      Make sure you routed the belt correctly on the correct side of the idler engagement pulley. Also make sure that the return spring is disengaging when the bail handle is released

      I have this same problem. First ordered the cogged belt by mistake, then the V belt 954-04050A and its so tight the auger runs all the time. Its routed right but it looks like its too wide as it wont sit deep inside the drive pulley hence making it like 1/2 to an inch too tight. Any suggestions? Im pretty mechanically inclined but this is just pissing me off ;)

      @Foxboss9  6 років тому +1

      River Raider well if the cable is retracting fully and the spring is still working correctly and you definitely have the belt routing correct, because that is easy to screw up, then it has to be the incorrect belt there's nothing else it could be.

    Hey there, i just did all of this exactly except when i put cover back on and engage auger, the engine bogs down and stops. If i remove cover and try then it works fine. I cant figure out what the issue is

    • @daanengrasso6604
      @daanengrasso6604 4 роки тому +1

      Of those several 1/4 in hex bolts you removed when taking off the belt cover plate. One bolt specifically measures just over 1/4 inch while the remaining ones are over 1/2 in long. reason being that shorter bolt goes into the plate cover toward the front of the snow thrower where the other end of the bolt (when inserted) sticks out into the auger housing. If you place the wrong bolt in that specific hole the auger will get caught on the bolt head and cause your engine to bog down. Hence, whey no issues when the cover is off.

    Hello. Good afternoon. I have a snow blower just like yours. except mine doesn't have any identifications on it I just know it's an MTD is there any way you could tell me the model number for it so I can buy parts for mine? Thank you I appreciate your time.

      Sorry that was years ago I don't have any snow blowers here at all. They made that same basic style for many many years but there are subtle changes between them so be careful
