    You explain things well enough, but when it came time to replace the belt (the whole purpose of watching this) you cut your video and come back once the belt is on.. if you do another one of these it would be great if you could actually show replacing the belt

    Another service item I would do to this particular model of snowblower is occasionally clean hand lubricate the hex shaft that the friction wheel slides on when you change speeds. Mine was moving sluggishly when I change speeds and when I went into reverse one from any forward Gear with machine would continue to go forward. After cleaning and lubricating it it worked as it should and the shifter moved much more easily. Unlike modern mtds there is no adjustment for the shift rod itself.

    It is much easier to replace the belt if you separate the front portion of the snowblower from the engine. Once you remove the top cover as you indicate, there are 4 bolts - 2 on each side that attache the front portion of the snowblower to the engine. Take these out, separate the parts and replace the belt (easily I might add). While you have it separated, you can inspect for anything that might be hitting the belt and clean out any portions of the old belt. This way you don't have to try to fish the whole belt down into the pulleys. This is the easy and correct way to do it.

      too much work

    • @marenothecarguy8361
      @marenothecarguy8361 Рік тому

      This is the same way I did it. I also found it much easier to just separate the front from the rear. There were 6 nuts on mine and it took all of 3 minutes to do it. Hard to say 3 minutes is too much work. Also gave me access to an area that we normally dont have access to, so I was able to clean and grease some moving parts.

    While watching your Video I saw the comments about removing the bottom plate. The comments said this was to allow you to put the belt under a plate that keeps the belt in the pulley when it is not driving the Auger. I really wish I had watched your video before I ruined two brand new belts. Thanks for posting the video.

    When I try to turn the auger blages they turn very little when I push the auger handle down I see that the black piece in the back moves very little this is of course when the blower is off , when I turn the black piece in the back by hand the auger wheels turn all the way around.When the machine is on it goes backwards and forwards but does not throw the snow,and the auger do not rotae when the machine is on I here a clicking noise from the black thing in the back not sure what you call that when I hold down the auger handle , wheb the machone is not on I see it move ever so slightly, Do you still think it's the gear box and can I get a part to fix this or is hard to fix?

    I am trying to figure out why my blower won't take a load, auger thrower stops. My left cable is quite loose and so I was wondering if the tension on belt is too loose. Worked fine then stopped after big job. ??? Do you have suggestions??

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  8 років тому

      More than likely the belt has stretched and is slipping on the pulleys. You can try adjusting the tension on the belt and see if that helps. But more than likely the belt probably needs to be replaced.

      We tried 2 belts and they keep smoking , shut it off b4 it snaps tho. One thing I noticed is that on ours , we didn't radjust the cable for the new belt. Could this be the reason?

    Hi , I bought the belt and will be replacing it this weekend . I will let you know how it turns out. The blower works but the augers are not turning or throwing snow.So I assume it's the belt. Do you think it might be anything else?I also bought a new auger cable for it's very loose and old and hanging do you have a video on how to replace that as well?

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  8 років тому

      +Pam Sakos If the augers are not turning, more than likely the shear pins are broken on the shaft. If you can spin them by hand then that is the issue. Since you said that the blower is working and the shaft is directly connected to the auger transmission.
      The shear pins are easy to replace.

    • @pamelamitsakos5226
      @pamelamitsakos5226 8 років тому

      +Streeters Garage HI,
      Thank you for your reply , I checked the Shear pins they look like there in good shape , I didn't remove them to see if they were broken inside , should I ? When I spin the round black 3 piece not sure what thats called behind the auger the augers rotate, do you still think it might be the shear pins if so I will take them of and check them and buy new ones.

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  8 років тому

      +Pam Sakos Hmmm. So if you grab the auger blades and try to spin them. Do they just freewheel on the shaft or do they not move at all? If they spin with no resistance then the shear pins are probably busted. But when this happens typically the head and nut will fall off the auger shaft and you'll just see the area where they should be.
      So if you squeeze the lever to engage the blower wheel. This will turn but the auger blades don't turn?
      If this is the case. Look to see if the shaft coming off the blower wheel into the gear box is turning. If it is turning and the auger blades are still not moving and the shear pins are good then the gear box is bad.

  • @pamelamitsakos5226
    @pamelamitsakos5226 8 років тому +1

    That's currect the auger does not turn and also the impeller does not turn , but when the machine in off I can rotate the impeller by hand and it rotates the augers, what do you think it could be still the gear box?

    Why is the auger belt fine which is the one I changed but is now where the drive belt used to be. I will change the drive belt but it's now ON THE PULLY'S WHERE I originally put the auger belt? Can I upload images somewhere for you to see what I mean?

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  8 років тому

      +Pam Sakos Sorry for the late response.
      I just broke another belt myself and I couldn't understand why. It turns out there there is a spring loaded pulley brake on the bottom of the lower pulley. You need to remove the bottom cover from the machine and release the brake and make sure the belt is on the pulley and not riding over the brake which more than likely is causing the problem.

    I have an MTD snowblower. Model # 316E70FOOO. Instead of wheels, it has a tracks instead of wheels. I need to change the belts and need to take the bucket off. On the wheeled version one could get I cannot get bhind the track to take off the bottom bolt and thus cannot take off the bucket so I cannot change the belts. How can I take the bottom bolt off easily? How can I change the auger bellts? Thanks.

    This video is informative but neglects to tell people to remove the bottom skid plate when replacing the belt. The only way to feed the belt correctly around the wheel at the bottom of the unit is to remove the bottom plate which has 6 screws. After that, the arm that holds the belt in place needs to be coiled back so the belt can slip on. Neglect to do so will result in belt malfunction. Make sure to remove all of the gas in the lines when completing this. The unit needs to be tipped up on it's front end to be worked on properly.

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  5 років тому

      You're correct. I had added captions to the video to instruct about the removal from the bottom of the machine. Unfortunately UA-cam had change it's platform options since I made this 4-5 years ago and stripped out the captions from the video and it's a feature they no longer support. One of these days, I'll download the video and edit it.
      Also on a side note, it's amazing how this video will be dormant in its views, but once we get a snowstorm. The views on it go crazy.
