- What to do when parking at an airport long term. You have two options: turn off sentry mode and cabin overheat protection and don't check your app to save battery or keep your Tesla plugged in. I chose the later and used Powerflex at LAX airport to keep my Tesla plugged in with Sentry mode on in 2 weeks!!

Thanks for going through this for all the rest of us. For me, if I decided I needed to drive my Tesla, rather than Uber, I'd just kick it old school and leave sentry mode off. But ain't no way I'm paying $800 to park for any period of time.

I lived and worked in Los Angeles for 30+ years. I never left my car at LAX. The parking fees are oppressive. We took a limo service, cheaper than taxis. The cars stayed at home. We were picked up as scheduled and taken to airport and on return, they were waiting to take us home. Now there is Uber and other alternatives. I live in Texas now, but would never leave my car at DFW. Shuttles are the way to go. You are nuts to leave your car there.

PS - you;re right, Sentry mode is great but a real battery drain. I use it overnight in NYC, and drop 5-7% overnight.
I'll drive my gas truck to the airport next time I take a long trip and leave the Model Y at home... WAY too expensive!!

Surprised you were able to leave the car in the charging space for 2 weeks. $800 for 2 weeks is insane. Door-to-door Uber or limo makes more sense. But good info.
My tip for the Atlanta airport, part in economy north or south. Both have massive free ev charging areas and it's like 12 bucks a day to park.

Make sure you have locks on your wheels. And Atlanta they’ve been taking the wheels off of cars at the airport.

I want to add that I did use the economy parking for my out of town trip, the economy cost me $150 for a week, so for those wanting to use the ev charging at the economy it is just as good as you get free shuttle service. I recommend the rest of Chris’ information on preparing for the trip and getting the items set up before hand, also recommend trying the charger before you get everything unloaded.

I have a Tesla too and took a trip May-June this year to Korea just left my car at home and rode a uber to and from airport instead. ended up being only $80 for uber and car only consumed 7% while in my garage so I think this is cheaper option. I feel safer to keep the house at home and take a Uber instead.
Singapore is on my bucket list.

over $800 for parking at LAX. They should have included trickle charging for EV for that type of cost.
"Not the cheapest" is a massive understatement. I understand you had to do this to show us the experience of parking there. I thought it was a great video, but best to advice people that unless you really need to park there for whatever reason, Uber/taxi is the way to go. As I said, great video though.

Yeah that’s the problem with living far away, 40+ minutes, from an airport. No driver or ride share really wants to pick you up.
I've long come to the conclusion that when it comes to airport parking, DON'T! 😂Between having to find a parking spot that also has chargers, the cost for parking itself, the cost for charging and having to periodically look to see what your charging level is (why exactly does sentry mode drain the battery so much?), stressed wondering if someone damaged your car, it's so, so, SSOOOOOOOOOOO much better to just hire a private car to drive you to and from the airport.
$ 800 is ridiculously expensive, leave the car at home and take Uber , the battery won’t drain that much since no sentry mode needed, as long as I leave the car at the proper energy level.
That kinda money is about the same of the ticket price of the flight , economy class

I simply don't trust people. I would not bring a beautiful Tesla to sit in an airport parking lot for a while. Some people are vindictive and purposely do damage to them. I'm glad you had no issues while you were away in Singapore.

How is it that when you click on the camera button (checking sentry clips) your past recorded footages come up so fast? I have a 2019 Model 3 long range, and it takes forever for it to load...

Do not get why your sentry mode drains so much. Mine never takes more than 5% per day. Also I have no events, because I set it so that only real events count (ie someone touching the car, so accidents, breakins etc) and not like in the past everyone walking by. Then it should not drain much and report little to none. Climate control and sentry is indeed a bummer but one does not need AC anyway.
Also it stops when you reach 20%, so there is really zero risk to really empty your battery. If you switch off your App, then it does not consume anything or extremely little. When it gets even lower, the car shuts down and then does not consume anything.
depends how close you are to the motion and yes you are correct it does switch off after 20% but if you're gone for a few extra days that can get dangerously low!
Insane never leaving my tesla at airport what if the flex charger stopped working like so many other non tesla chargers over 1,000 events in less then 2 weeks over 100$ battery use I'll just get someone to drop me off or take Uber but thanks for dropping over 1,000 with charging to show us this video

my sentry mode doesn't even work lmaooo I need to take it in to fix this issue, it is just greyed out but I can view it through my phone which is weird

For them to charge that much just to keep your car topped off is disgusting. Should be illegal honestly.. they charge you to leave your car there and then on top of that charge 10X the amount it actually cost to have your car charging at home. Best bet would be to have a friend take your car.

Yes also I wish they could find away to not drain battery it's only a camera but everyday I go work I lose about 8% even when thier is no events I work a 12hr shift at night

why not leave the jump starter in the frunk and just carry a small battery? Sounds silly to take the jump starter with you
If it dies the frunk wont even open haha. The jump starter is to open the frunk
Huh?? You missed my point. You can use a 12v A23 battery (aka small) to pop the frunk with a dead battery. No need to carry a large battery jumper.
