Thanks Dave, I saw Cinderella and they were Awesome, Jeff and the bass player where throwing there guitars around in unison , great showmanship and the band sounded Awesome, ,R.I.P Jeff Labar.
Jeff handed me a pick after "Shake me!" with a high five in '88 at the new then Charlotte Hornets arena. They opened for Priest where I also caught a pick from K.K.
As a Philadelphia adjacent guy of the right age.... This is great of you. The empire rock club on the Roosevelt Boulevard baby! Was great to see some of "our" guys make it.
@@HeadbangersLocal the troc... Khyber pass.... My memory on places gets foggy... There was a place just over the border south on 95. City gardens.... They blur together...
My sophomore year in college ('89) I decided to try and fling the guitar around my neck like Jeff used to do. At the top of the spin my strap came undone and my "Pink" Kramer Focus hit the ceiling and fell head stock first to the floor....breaking the headstock in two. I saw Cinderella several times and they still are one of my favorite bands! Thank you for making this video!
I saw Cinderella, White Lion and a band called Tangier on a triple bill at the Baltimore Arena in '87. Cinderella was the best of the 3 by far. Jeff and the boys were so polished and had great chemistry on stage. Then a few years later, I met Jeff LaBar at the legendary Hammerjacks in Baltimore. I walked up to him and said, "You're Jeff LaBar!" He said, "Yes I am. And I don't know your name." So I told him who I was and we hung out the rest of the night and he got me ridiculously drunk. When I heard of his passing, that's the first thought that came to mind. He was a very down to earth guy. RIP Jeff! Glad I had the honor to meet you.
thanks for doing this lesson, Cinderella was my first concert I was 13 years old, saw them at the spectrum in philly opened for Jovi. Tom and Jeff were one of the reasons i wanted to play guitar too. RIP
He was an awesome player, and seemed like a great person as well. Unlike many other bands, I don't think I have ever heard the members of Cinderella saying negative things about each other. They seem to have remained brothers throughout. That means as much to me as the music.
My first sighting of Jeff: I was at my girlfriend's house, after 11 pm, I was 20 at the time and "Shake Me" video was brand new, my first time hearing it when all of a sudden he spun his red Kramer 360° around his body. I said, HOLY S**T, DID YOU JUST SEE THAT!! From then on, I was hooked with those guys. We had to buy the album, there was no instant gratification UA-cam. I had to do my homework and learn more about them. Jeff was in my radar from then on,but I thought that was the coolest thing. What a contrast of styles between him and Tom, just sounded awesome. All of our heroes are passing away before our eyes, which means we're getting old. Stay young at heart brothers, r.i.p. Jeff, you're one of the cool ones ☹️.
Saw them back in the 90s at the Galaxy Theatre in Oc California now called The Observatory. Was one of the best live performances I ever saw. RIP Jeff he will never be forgotten.
Great Video as always. You’re a great guitar player. Love watching your videos to learn more on guitar. Thanks! 🎸👍 keep up the good work! R.I.P Jeff LaBar .
Saw Cinderella opening for David Lee Roth on the Eat em & Smile tour. They were AWESOME, especially for a new band & opening act! Never forget this day,we got rear ended in my friend's 73 SS Nova on the way to the concert. I had a big lump on my forehead from hitting my head on the windshield. LOL It was 1985-86 if I remember correctly? Seat belts weren't mandatory yet. I bought a Black 87 Charvel model 2 because it closely resembled Jeff's black Kramer. The single humbucker. Somebody Save Me is still a favorite song of mine. We're losing way too many of our guitar heroes lately, it sucks!!! R.I.P. Jeff LeBar
I met Jeff Labar on at a bar on South Street in Philly back in 1996. At the time I was a Recon Marine on leave. I told him I am a Cinderella fan and he asked me if I had any cocaine. Of course I didn’t do coke and suspected he assumed I had some because I’m Black. I didn’t get angry. I decided to fuck with him. I told him my favorite song by the band is ‘You Give Love a Bad Name’. Jeff immediately became annoyed and told me that was not a Cinderella song. I told him I was just fucking with him and I explained I was a Marine on leave and don’t do coke. He laughed and apologized. Jeff had a good sense of humor. I’m glad I met him.
jeff's stage presence and overall charisma always knocked my sox off. not to mention that tasty rippin on guitar. damn, these things really gets me thinking about time. anyway props & thanks for the licks
Sad you had to make this one, man :( Saw them open for Bon Jovi in 87 and they blew Bon Jovi off the stage. Jeff is "responsible" for me nearly putting a hole in my bedroom wall with the "flip the guitar over the shoulder" move .. I didn't know strap locks were a thing ..
Thanks, David! I never paid much attention to Cinderella at the time, but your Late Night Lessons help me appreciate a lot of creative work I may have missed, the 1st time around!
One of the things that I find most interesting in covering guitarists that are not in the “hero” category is that how advanced a lot of them were but they were in bands where they did not reach the status of everyone wanting to copy their style and licks.
I've seen Cinderella quite a few times and everyone that has seen them and know Cinderella knows Tom is the driving force, but man.. I don't think I've seen anyone play live w/ the fire Jeff had. Such a performer.. And I've stood in front of him at a small club and at an outdoor pavilion and arena didn't matter, same energy no matter the size of the gig..
Saw Cinderella after release of Night Songs open for David Lee Roth in 1986 supporting Eat ‘Em and Smile album. It was a great night of different flavors of rock.
Just learned about Jeff's passing from this video in my subscriptions. This is totally heartbreaking. Cinderella was a huge influence on me. I saw them open for Roth with Extreme. And of course I couldn’t even finish watching the video because of all the crappy commercials. I swear youtube keeps getting worse and worse. Oh well, R.I.P. Jeff.
I noticed on the tapping riff he alternates with the left hand, descending after every other tap rather than ascending each time (F# G & A then A G & F#). You really hear it when he starts to slow down, which makes the riff even cooler actually. I liked Cinderalla in the 80s it's a shame when I hear about someone passing like this, especially a guitar player.
Its always sad as fuck when we lose another warrior in our beloved genre of music, Jeff you the man..... that will be missed!!!!! We're hurting right now...... RIP Jeff....your Night Songs will always be playing
I never got to meet Jeff im only 16 and have been listening to Cinderella since I was 6 and they inspired me to play guitar around when I was 8 and I was so sad when I found out I would never see Cinderella as a whole
I know this will sound a little silly, but my lasting memory of Cinderella is the first time I saw them do the guitar flip thing. The first time I saw that it blew my mind, lol. Also, Jeff looked bizarrely similar to a friend of mine. Great video as always, David. :)
RIP Jeff Labar.....Great video David. Jeff's solo break in 'Shake Me' just before Tom's....what a blistering run! I would love you to put that into a lesson somewhere.
Soon as I read it, It was a shock to read? Then I remember the demons he was consisently fighting within himself. I just got really sad. I have lost my best friend to acholisim. I know that feeling. His "swinging guitar" trick I always a kick out of. I always wonderd how the hell he never lost that thing from flying off his shoulder! ha ha ha. R.I.P. Jeff. When I was a young boy
They said, "You're only gettin' older"
But how was I to know then
That they'd be cryin' on my shoulder
Put your money in a big house
Get yourself a pretty wife
She'll collect your life insurance
When she connects you with a knife
Somebody get the doctor
I'm feelin' pretty poor
Somebody get the stretcher
Before I hit the floor
Somebody save me, I lost my job
They kicked me out of my tree
Somebody save me, save me
And everybody's got opinions
But nobody's got the answers
And that shit you ate for breakfast
Well, it'll only give you cancer
We're runnin' in a circle
Runnin' to the morning light
And if ya ain't quite workable
