:oD awesome! Chimo, that was my smile when I saw the photo. Love your hybrids, mash ups and Genetically Modified Offerings. I flipped out when I saw these pattern types in Fly Tyer a while back (think I mentioned it to you).
A very long time ago, so long that the memory is in black & white ;o) I read an article of a pattern that used piece of foam and some fluff on a thread tether to lift the hook up while the weighted head stayed on the bottom. I think it was Lafontaine, but I've asked a few pro tiers and they don't recall it. It had to be a caddis pattern.
FYI I got Rick Takahashi's The Fly Tying Artist... and he is, cool looking patterns. The winter 2019 Flyfishing & Tying Journal has lots of Glasso and other patterns. Wet Fly Swing Dave"s dad Doug has an article on caddis featuring his tied down pattern in the mag, good stuff.
Cheers and Merry Christmas to you and the family!

Chimo Joe. I should mention that this isn't my pattern, but I wasn't able to find the origin either. It's a pattern I found on a listicle of carp flies. I don't recall that pattern, but it sounds similar to a Schollmeyer pattern called a parasol emerger. Not weighted just suspended from the surface by some poly. I was looking at Rick's book as well. I'll need to swing by the bookstore to get some new magazines to read over the winter. Merry Christmas

@@PiscatorFlies thanks for the reply. Yours or not you still tie awesome patterns :o) The fly I'm talking about I read probably in the 80's, at least when the magazines had photos in B&W. It wasn't the parasol (or Better's Piggyback Nymph - which was developed well before the parasol or the Dandelion - big hoopla in Fly Tyer when they did Schollmyer's PE.)
I"m not sure if it was a Lafontaine idea or not, I think it was a cased caddis or larva pattern. The point is it used something to float or raise the business end of the fly off the bottom while it drifted along the bottom - sort of a trigger point. Anyway I asked Phil Rowley and Al Beatty if they ever heard of Lafontaine tying some like it, neither did but Phil said it sounds like something GL would do and Al mentioned other patterns that may have been what I described :o(
No matter, when I saw the Pop Up in the water that memory "popped up" in my head :o) It's all good. Enjoy your winter reading... and tying... Have a Happy!

Finally! A worm fly that looks worth trying. Really like that action to the tail. It should trigger some action.

Thanks a million, James Vatter. It's great to have you stop by the channel. If you get a chance to tie and try a few let me know how they work out for you. All the best!
