Nice looking Fly, thanks for the vid!
Thanks a million, John Walker. It's great to have you stop by the channel. All the best!
Shame this didn't show in my feed by the time I got the email note you were finished. Great fly I've been looking for more saltwater patterns. Thanks for sharing!
Sorry you missed it, Hardy. Do you fish stripers? This would be a good pattern for them. Cheers
@@PiscatorFlies Yes I fish for Stripers was the first thing I thought of seeing this pattern Hard to find saltwater patterns other then Tarpon .
Great, will whip one up. A variant though lol. Maybe on a 3/0.
Way too neat to be a Lefty's pattern
It was his Birthday yesterday I think!
Kerry, you're right, he would have been 95. Cheers
Chimo Darren, really nice tie. My inbox got messed up for a day, but I got it sorted out and finally able to watch today. (tomorrow I'm going live on the snowblower, lol ;o)
Your hackles are tied like a tarpon fly or a bass bug, looks cool. I've never seen Lefty tie, I know about the tail tie difference, but is the bucktail tied in your style? Did Lefty tie his on the side, covering 180, or on top and bottom like you did? I just don't remember, but I really like your variant, silver Sally's head, guinea throat, 3 color wing, awesome. Thanks and cheers.
Chimo Joe - Thanks, I really like tying this version. It's different from Lefty's in a couple ways like you pointed out. You're correct in that he tied his bucktail on the sides. He used 2 clumps of white, one on each side topped with the colored bucktail. I stagger mine in two stages whereas Lefty's had just one. I think they accomplish the same goals with shape and action. It would be interesting to get them into a stream pipe and see how they swim.
Spring is on the way, lots of rain here this week, high rivers. Cheers
@@PiscatorFlies Yeah we had rain, snow melt with the warmer temps, my sump pump is working, but still ice in my yard from packed snow - have to put my ice creepers on to ex the dogs :o(
I looked up some Deceiver images and not one looked like the other, that's why I couldn't recall. Years ago I read an excellent article in one of the mags where Lefty explained how to tie it, I guess my memory is still somewhat intact :o) If you tie the bucktail too short it has the profile of a squid. You can layer it with different colored hackle and flashabou (but stagger cut the ends of flash). I think his favorite was grizzly sides on all black. I guess it's a "style" of tying to keep the hackles from fouling. Well take care and wash your hands, scary times. Thanks Darren. Cheers!
