Boost saves time not water, you only use a water when you *complete* an action that gives you a resource; so they are not actually important. The boosts also gives you something to do so you don't get bored waiting.

@@KodeeDentares but do those tech can get more from the sources or from others? Because it don't seem to cost water to collect water manually. So if the pump only just replace the human interaction to collect, it only save time, not water quantity.

One of the best designers in the world, Ben Brode, said in a talk that if there are more than 8 words on screen at a time, a player is going to read none of them.
They managed to use icons for the entire "map" at the bottom, but not for objectives or buildings? Really hard to correlate random text with actions.
