While I believe that those who hold faith in different religions should be allowed to believe in their respective faith. What are these evidences that you mentioned? I am not trying to undermine your statement, just curious.
Btw I agree with you that not everyone is religious because they are depressed. But religion is meant to give purpose and that simply cannot be denied. If you truly just believed in god(s) then you wouldn't have a predetermined set of rules or principles to follow that each religion has. For instance Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Jain etc.... you would just believe in their existence and follow your own morals and principles. A religion is a group of individuals that believe in the same god with the same set of rules almost unchanginge. Their are many types sure but in a particular locality or (around the world) its mostl unchanged except the subsets will probably be different. @@llamahguy7229

I have seen many unethical theists in my life but there are many more ethical theists. Also I have observed that atheists are ethical since they advocate for rationality but I have also met an arrogant atheist too. So it seems being atheist or theist have nothing to do with being moral.

when I had newly become an atheist Genetically modified skeptic was the first yt channel that had help me become more critical and how to debunk simple claims made by religious people. Back in the day i only used to follow him after that I slowly started watching other content creators whose content revolves around atheism.
Science is dope is one of those channels that I have seen it growing from the start (og subscriber) and one of those channels that improved my debunking skills.
It feels great to see both of them collab.

    • @masstv9052

For me, it was Phil Hellenes channel. One of the first atheist/skeptic channels I found, probably 10 years ago. That I still highly recommend. All the early athiests recommend him. Not only was he a pioneer. He didn't just go after Christianity, but went after the physical & financial abuses by religion. While also making soothing Docs about the wonder of the universe and our place in it. All while debunking & going after the many YT Christians who're attempting to fleece the many people in physical or financial trouble. Calling them out for their bad behavior.
He's an English gentleman that was heavily active in the early days of the YT atheist genre. While he did debate or debunk many religious apologists, what made him popular back then was being one of the earliest in the atheist genre, creating really unique & high quality scripts & stories that resonate with people.
Being passionate, inspirational, influential, & positive video essays on various topics (similar in presentation style to Exurbia1, who later created video essays) that often explore different but overlapping.topics.
Leaving you with an emotional sense of wonder & awe, while simultaneously giving you an existential crisis.
Some videos might provide you with a new lens to view life, as your ego is challenged about everything you've been reinforced to believe since childhood, including humanity's self important role within the universe, being earth's dominant species, and the long-term legacy & impact of ones individual life when explored thru the scales of deep time & the incomprehensible vastness of the universe.
I highly recommend checking out Phil Hellenes channel (and Exurbia1 also) and start with his essays.
Then maybe move onto his online responses to Christian Apologetics everything from popular Xtian apologetics like William Lane Craig or responding to regular people on the Internet,(All Similar to Aron Ra's or Genetically Modified Skeptics responses to UA-cam Christians posting "10 things Athiests Cant Answer").
He also debunks different supernatural claims & all these new age people trying to keep people from hospitals while selling them magical woo woo objects that can not only cure your cancer, ward of demons, & bring you financial wealth, along with whatever your heart desires (as long as u send the mega-church
$$$ and u must truly believe in Jesus. If your not cured or obtain wealth, then it's your fault. Your faith wasn't strong enough.). So u must send more $$ and believe even harder.
o warding off demons & evil forces from your home.
He hasn't really been active much in yrs, maybe just dropping one video every several years.
though he still has a ton of back catalog, that's timeless and still relevant today.

Alex's cost is way above us PLEBS now.
I'd imagine Alex Charges a higher price by
      Day/Hour for a collab.
Just like established Music artists can charge a million dollars, plus charge additional points ontop the album sales so they also make royalties off every album sold.
While up & coming artists will do it for free or at a way lower price for zero points to get attention, established artists won't. Same goes for those on the public speaking circuit, YT Collabs, and other media types.
If I'm not mistaken, Alex has his PHD now? Correct me if I'm wrong, though.
Last I listened to him he was going to a top notch college (Was it Oxford?), and because of his podcast, he was able to meet a lot of top academic people, and could leverage his ability to meet these professors & get letters of recommendation from distinguished people in different fields that all have information that overlaps or relates to Athiesm & Theology
People like Dawkins with Evolution, many theologians, apologists, and others he's networked with, debated with, or just rubbed shoulders with.
Just his videos alone not only show he began educating himself early on in a wide array of educational topics, like philosophy, theology, Math, logic, evolution, physics, neuroscience, and more fields that Theological Apologists try to pull in and sound like God uses these things, rather than nature.
He's either professionally or personally studied these fields, and that's what makes him great in every endeavor he pursues.
He's above us PLEBS now...... Lol.)

That being said, it is not specific religious beliefs (or specific people) that I have a problem with, it is the general unwillingness to think critically. Beliefs should be malleable. No point in holding onto traditions if they are false or harmful. You should defend many other Indian principles, like atithi devo bhavam. You should defend the diversity of ancient Indian schools of philosophy. What you shouldn't do is blindly stick to traditions/beliefs/superstitions even if they contradict modern science.

Atheists really gonna have hard time understanding Hinduism. They probably need to invest many years studying it. Even an average practicing Hindu doesn't fully grasp the intricacies of Hinduism.
    Here's how it goes:
For a start, if you don't understand how Vedic and post-Vedic texts have shaped Indian history and Hinduism, then you'll miss the point entirely.
Now, if you start by pointing out superstitions or say embarrassing stuff/bad practices of Hinduism, which mostly come from post Vedic texts, then the goalpost will shift to what many Hindus believe as the heart of Hinduism that is Vedanta, which is deeply philosophical-intellectually stimulating even. Now the thing is, Vedanta has a wide range of subschools such as Advaita, Dvaita, Bhedabheda, etc., studying them would take years. Most of Hindu traditions or temple culture that exist today have their foundational basis in one of these subschools of Vedanta.
If you don't understand how different Vedanta school of thoughts or subschools work, then you'll completely miss out how these philosophies have influenced traditions (and their modern variants) such as Vedism, Vaishnavism, Shaivism, Shaktism, Tantra, Agamas, etc.
If you manage to find out problems in Vedanta, then are 5 more school of thoughts like Vedanta, such as Samkhya, Nyaya, Vaisheshika, Yoga, and Mimansa, each of these have their own traditional history.
Now, if you say it's all bullshit, all religions are essentially the same, then this is where political Hinduism aka Hindutva comes into play.
Political Hinduism has evolved too since it's inception. And just like Hinduism is not like Abrahamic religions, similarly Hindutva is not similar to political Islam and political Christianity. This is another topic in itself.
I really wish to see Indian atheists bring something new to the table instead of following in the footsteps of western atheists. They're gonna fall flat considering Hindutva is on its peak and getting mainstream popularity, possibly acceptance very soon too.
Good luck and may Gods and Goddesses (let me be inclusive here) be with you, Indian atheists! 😉

I think we should not just call ourselves atheist bcoz look atheism is against the beliefs religious people have how it affects the world and ourselves too and telling our story to others might inspire people to stop believing shit happening in their religion so that's what we should be doing bcoz atheism is not happening in a bad way of spreading it so till then it's ok

My opinion is belief in God is a matter of faith. All these attempts to prove God exists are prone to failure due to various logical fallacies. God is a matter of faith that you treat like an axiom (something without proof) Atheists believe in science a lot but not many seem to say that science itself requires faith. Science is based on math and math is based on axioms ( which at core are statements without proof). One example is gravity when we believe in gravity we rely on observations over years and have a theory of gravity, but then there is an element of faith that we assume that gravitational laws or physical laws don't change with time. That assumption is a matter of faith. Another example is the existence of square root of 2 that has infinite decimal expansion. We believe it exists in math and there is this whole proof using Dedekind cuts. This indirectly assumes the existence of infinity and infinite sets again a matter of faith at the core of mathematics. We make these assumptions so that we can rigorously do calculus and physics relies on it and the whole framework relies on these aspects of faith at the very core. Similarly one can have faith in God as an axiom provided it adds a practical value like being nice to ppl and happy( like calculus in science) as long as it is done in right spirit and doesn't contradict observations and aspects of science. My 2 cents... Any comments?

I kind of agree but not entirely. First math isnt science. Your definition here is a math definition not a science one. Humans communicate using languages but the actual substance of the communication far transcends any limits of the language, that is to say communication uses language as a tool but the languages cant define boundaries of communication (some things that cant be expressed by words are still communicated, i.e they are abstract). That is what math is to science which is same as what language is to communication. Anyways my point being that scientific axioms are things that are self-evident and are thus defined without proof for practical use.
This might get a bit confusing but bear with me.
Let me give an example. If I ask "What is English?", you can tell me its a language. Then I ask "what is a language?". I can tell you that its a set of defined words used for communication. Then I can ask "Whats a word?". You see whats happening? Its a self referential and self evident loop. That is because I cannot define language using a language without the self evident and practical assumption that a language exists in the first place. Thats a scientific axiom.
A thing that exists in a system (English) cannot be proven by something that is a part of/whole of the system (language). Thus to define "English" we have to go out of the system, here that is your conscious perception of things. Since your consciousness is outside the system (language) it can define the system itself.
But science tries to define the very system it is a part of so to come out of that loop they make some self evident statements that are taken as a baseline fact. Comparing this to god is just false equivalence, as no observations made by the "baseline fact" or axiom of god are self evident.
I would like to stress that I absolutely dont have anything against religion or choosing your faith, but saying that believing in science requires an amount of faith comparable to religion is simply incorrect. I do agree that it has practical value in giving people happiness and also providing a basis for morality.

    • @sockt0922
      @sockt0922 7 днів тому +1

If you still arent convinced by my response remember, science never claims any facts (unlike religion) and when people say stuff like "we know only 1% of knowledge" they forget that scientists are the ones who found that 1% figure in the first place. If science is wrong the first one to accept it will be science itself (it could take some time though). That is because science is not only self-evident but also self-correcting.

I just realized this is the channel I have been looking for for so long... Initially I was turned away from all the Sadhguru bashing and Hindu bashing... but the more I watched them, I realized that I wasn't liking them because you made me question my reality of what is true and untrue.
The concept of false pride that you have explained in one of your other videos, quite succinctly I must add, clearly explains my former predisposition. I have no idea how I believed in this false sense of pride, but kuddos to your work, it helped me change my pov and perception.
    So thanks
