But I know people who treat their pets better than their own partners or children, and it can very quickly turn into resentment towards the animal. It's not fair or right for people to resent an animal but it is very easily done if you have to watch someone you love shower them with attention and then pay half of that attention to you while on their phone.

I'm going to be honest here. During my high school years, and after getting out of an abusive relationship, I acted like an r/nicegirl.
