    • @BlenderBob

      The biggest kick-ass graphic card, Nvidia, not AMD, as much ram as possible and as many cores are you can afford. That pretty much say it all. I run out ram on the project I'm working on right now. 11 gig definitively not enough but I work in the film industry and we do crazy stuff. Most of the project I do can't be rendered in GPU because they are too heavy. I have a 32 core machine. Not as fast as my 2080RTX but still pretty fast. Our farm is CPU only on 36 core machines and they are so fast.

    I used the Fractur Modifier Build in production years ago. The last stable version is 2.79 because so many changes appends in 2.8, it's made this patch unstable. So you can destroy objects in 2.79 (you can even do this dynamically without pre-crack the geometry) then export everything in alembic.
    And you can use the Bullet Constraints Tool to create RB Constraints between every piece.
    They can be broken by collision according a threshold.
    Kai Kostak also create another Addon for this.

    Hey blender Bob. I have a small tip that would help you in the modelling stage (just the scaling part tho). I saw at 8:51 you kept scaling up the sphere multiple times to get a desired result. Well there is a way to scale up items faster. So basically the closer the mouse cursor is to the origin of the object the more sensitive the scaling becomes. So any small movements will result in big scaling. Idk if this made sense but I hope it does.

    • @BlenderBob
      @BlenderBob  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I kind of knew that but didn't. I do this all the time for rotations to get more precision but that's an old Maya reflex. Never actually realized that for scaling. Thanks! We learn every day!

    For deleting the inside faces what if you moved the fractured model over the original, and put a vertex proximity modifier on the fractured model. Then you could use a mask node to mask out the vertices that aren't touching the surface of the original?

    Great content again! One question I have is how did you get a smooth shaded, but fractured mesh, to still look good at time 15:50 onwards? Whenever I've tried to use cell fracture or similar on a smooth shaded mesh, you see shading discontinuities along all the cracks. Maybe I'll have to try again...

    would it be possible to transfer outside group from non-fractured model vertices to fractured? With very small radius so it wouldn't get anything inside.
    Or by UV islands, because inside fracture should generate UV somewhere, hopefully not stiched to original geometry (I never tried it, so idk)

    • @BlenderBob
      @BlenderBob  3 роки тому

      The problem is that the fracture model vertices don’t match the original. Eventually they will fix the fracture modifier and it won’t be an issue anymore. It’s probably going to be a geometry node thing though.

    Hy BlenderBob, i have a remark, why you didn't add and apply a solidify in 2.80 before modifier fracture ? you wouldn't have wasted 3 days to remove the internal faces of your object in 2.92, especially to add a solidify afterwards for material purpose.
