CAN YOU LAND THE AN-225 AT SABA AIRPORT? | Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

- Hi, after a long time I'm back with a video!!!
Is this video I try to land planes of all sizes at Saba airport, located in the Caribbean. The runway is just 400 metres (1,312 feet) long. So it's definitely challenging with big planes!!!

Even Ryanair would call that AN-225 landing "Slightly bumpy."
YEAH
Passengers will be charged an additional £5 per bump.
haha ryanair landing funny haha omg original haha
@@chancethef4pp3r alien trying to assimilate to a lower form of live
Ryanair isnt even bad
I think it would have been easier to land that runway on the AN-225.
Lmao
lol
🤣🤣🤣
Yep🤣
We have the sam photo lol
This hits different after the An-225 has been destroyed
I got to see it a few times when it was at krfd

Hey. Don't sink.
I wish this game had breaking and particle animations so we can see how accurate those "hard landings" really were. 😭
Yeah would be great
No way the manufacturers will ever allow that. 😅
Would also be laggy
fireballs
@@houstonhelicoptertours1006 nonsense, it is perfectly clear that these landings would end in disaster IRL and no manufacturer pretends that mishandling of the airplane will end in anything else but diaster
the last one, the Antanov, looks like it hit a slope before the airstrip and bounced up from it hard, that one looks to be enough to tear the plane apart so not sure if that one should count, do it with damage on :)
Yeah I understand
Is the Antonov a DLC?
@@O.R.L.606 mods i guess
Yes you could download it on Flightsim.to
@@theflightsim2020 Thank you 👍
R.I.P "Mriya" AN-225 we all miss you...i hope you Fly in the airplane haven in to a beautiful sunset
Just wanted to say thank you for this vid! I cracked up several times because of the wonky landings (the first F-18 "landing" was particularly hilarious!) Also, the parlor music you used for the failed AN-225 landings was really funny! The cinematic you used at the very end for the successful landing was particularly sweet! I could watch 100 videos of this quality. Thank you :)
6:05 Congratulations, you managed to land. Now you might as well sell the 747 to a developer so it can be turned into an aviation theme restaurant, because it'll never be able to take off and leave 😂
If we are able to land so big aeroplanes at this airport, then that means that its flight model is not so good. because its impossible in real life to land these planes here.
Right?
@@abcdefgh6121 well, nobody has tried yet
@@Str1ke3r227 But by seeing their normal operations, it seems impossible that they will stop in such a short distance.
What would happen if for some reason this worked in real life, is they would strip out as much weight as possible (seats and stuff, for example) and take off at the minimum weight with as much flaps as possible. You'd be surprised how low the takeoff speed for a plane can be when truly empty!
Just wait for a very strong head wind to take off in.
o7 Rest in peace our Mriya
RIP BIG BOY😭😭😭
With the hornet on approach, remember: throttle for altitude, pitch for speed. You should be maintaining a constant ~18 degrees nose up with around -3 degrees vvi at 120 kt and mostly adjusting power to stay on the glideslope
That's... waaaaay slow AoA for the legacy, and I have a feeling that didn't change for the Rhino.
Matter of fact, Legacy should be maintaining 8 degrees AoA with a three degree glideslope all the way in. And pray you got wires, because the brakes ain't all that much.
As someone that has done things like this, I can indeed say that a fully loaded A320neo is able to take off from Saba if you are willing to get the APU Exhaust a bit wet
Sounds like some air time for the passengers after the end of the runway, but the roller coaster type of air time
for a moment, I was worrying the wing of the AN225 might scratch the terminal roof off
It’s a blast from the past seeing this beauty fly again. Of course this was recommended after it was destroyed
All those butter landings. You're a flying God. Love the video.
I have flown into that airport a few times. First thing is that the approach, in my 5 times there, has always been from the opposite direction. I would like to see the take off, or even the turn around. I don't think that it would work so well. That being said, the simulator is absolutely incredible in what it looks like there. To let you know, in 2011, the last time I was there, they had a 0 fatality for any landing or take off. I hope that is still the case.
Its an awesome little airport. I have been there in 2011, just for 1 day, see the island, climb to the top and same day back to St. Maarten. Looks very real in MFS.
That Grand Caravan landing was hard enough to snap the landing gear, same with the Citation.
Great video and nice chuckle in there too. love it.
I really enjoyed (and laughed) watching the video.
The Antonov AN-225 is an aircraft that I love. I've flown it a lot in MSFS v4. I've always marvelled at the patience you have to have to handle it, especially when it comes to landing.
I imagine this is the first phase of simulation training navy pilots go through.
"If you can land a AN-225 at Saba you can land an F-18 on an aircraft carrier"
or you can just practice on the aircraft carrier?
@@diollinebranderson6553 I'm not sure exactly what you are getting at, or if you are actually being serious.... But my comment was a 'Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story' reference. "If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball,"....
@@diollinebranderson6553 If you wanna pay more training cost 🤣
@@diollinebranderson6553 they practice on normal airstrip, with a target area marked out that is gradually reduced in size, until they can land with ease on something _smaller_ than a carrier. _Then_ they can start learning how to deal with ship movement.
@@electric6469 bro literally no one can make that connection to the movie. that phrase is popular in other form of media even way beyond the movie itself.
MSFS has been VERY generous with the stall speeds of these aircraft!
Yes. Yes it has. I do wonder if you could glide in and brake using power from the APU of some of these aircraft
Pretty good job, other than landing before runway surface started it was great!
You really do a great job of making a half decent flight sim look like an arcade game
emphasis on half
This was pretty much my thought. That "thunk" when Caravan slammed onto the pavement had me cringing.
Mfs2020 is the arcade game
He turns off all of the realism settings which is extremely cringe imo
Theres this thing called a "Stable Approach" that you should think about looking into.
Only a bit of fun calm down captain sully
Wow, that is a short runway! I wish real 787s could bounce off the rocks like that.
The *real* challenge, obviously, would be to land Concorde on that strip . . .
Very fun video mate! Subbed!
Heh, memories off trying the same with the same planes (minus the 787 that at the timers had yet to be born) on the Italian Kai Tak, LICR airport under FS9.
Nice tribute to a plane that sadly now flies only on our simulators.
Both sides of my family come from Saba. I've made the landing about half a dozen times. By the way, to my knowledge , nobody has ever used Runway 30 to land from that direction.
That F18 jump sound is just real how the plane feels
Every landing is coming in low and dragging it in 😆 love it
That first Dreamliner attempt tho. Just straight up ollie's onto the runway!
Now, the question is, Can you take off with any of the larger aircraft!? ;)
I think I'll try that in one of the next video's, but I think taking off with the widebody planes is impossible here (maybe if you have a headwind of like 50 knots haha)
If we are able to land so big aeroplanes at this airport, then that means that its flight model is not so good. because its impossible in real life to land these planes here.
Right?
@@abcdefgh6121 yes that's true, for some planes the flight model is good (like the FBWa320) but I think the braking is just not very realistic sometimes
@@theflightsim2020 Yes. But the FBW a320 is not 'some planes'. It is not the default one. The default A320 flight model is pretty bad, I guess.
I can take off a 747 in less than 10 ft of runway.
For f-18, try mainting a high angle of attack once you’re on the ground to keep more drag
Hard to do that on F18, and F18 irl usually dont do that. But F16 can do that easily.
@@qiyuxuan9437 why is an F-18 so much harder to flare with?
@@alexrox321 Probably because the huge flaps on F-18, although when landing on land, they dont need to use full flaps, in that case they can aerobrake like F-16. It also relate to training, U.S navy pilots are trained to land on carriers, even when they land on airfields, their landing is still a bit different than airforce pilot, and usually dont flare(probably for better landing precision). However, countries like Australia that also fly F-18 but in airforce does flare their jets, but the nose still dosent raise as high as F-16.
@@qiyuxuan9437 that’s a really cool insight thanks for sharing :)
@@alexrox321 you actually don’t flair at all in the 18 you land with all wheels almost a crash
That boeing 747 landing was sooo clean man!🤩
RIP AN-225, you were the legacy of that red monster but you are the best showcase of human resolution to conquer the sky.
очень жалко что этого самолёта больше нет...
Декомунизация.
Getting from close to 1k to 12.5k subs in just 3 months is pretty awesome. Good job, man. XD
Came for the landing, stayed for the lols. Subbed
Man, that first 787 landing makes me think you don’t need a runway at all😃😬😊 4:40
I'm no advanced pilot so this is the kind of stuff I do. Lately I've been trying to land the Concorde at Friday Harbor safely. Obviously it hasn't been working out but I haven't given up.
This "Yike" 🤣 made my day. Nice landings
Congrats. You managed to snap the spines of everyone😃
You'd probably have an easier time with the F/A-18 if you were flying from the cockpit with the HUD since the HUD has a velocity vector, E bracket and AoA indexer on it. It'd let you put it right at the end of the runway..
Also starting with more altitude and more AoA will probably make things easier. Carrier landings are at 8deg AoA, ~130knots and -700vfpm. Can definitely go slower and more AoA and higher descent rate
RIP antonov
I saw you do the take offs, I was hoping there was a landing video, sweet.
Oh God you just made me sound like my CFI, "you need to stabilize your approach or go around" wait did I just think that???? LOL
Goodbye Mriya, now you can finally soar the blue skies eternally.
You made it. Though I'm sure the rear landing gear was badly damaged.
Genial, ahora despéga con ellos 🤭🤭
Nice video!
that 787 sure did live up to its name.. BOINGGGG!
Hey mate, when you get that voice alert "don't sink" it means you should approach from a greater hight, than you just slide gently without using throttle at all!! You should use the wings and gravity only with the stick - after all its a plane not a car..❣😉
R.I.P AN-225 Mirya já tive a oportunidade, e entrei dentro dele, ele e gigante , muito belo que pena que foi destruido :(
Well impressed of your content! i really like it! you are underrated and im happy right now, because i have found a great channel !! keep it up
Thanks!!! Next video in 2 weeks...
1:48 Wow, that is one tough aircraft! Flew into the rocks and not a scratch or dent!
When you hear on the plane PA that ‘TFS2020’ is your captain for your overseas flight, you know you will have an exciting time! 👨✈️ ✈️
At least I can operate direct flights from Europe to SABA with the 747 haha
Would like to see if you can land one and make it around that first left taxiway exit.
Good on ya! Never Give Up! Cheers!
The "YEET" has me dying 🤣
imagine some 747 emergency landing there succesfully, is never able to leave again :D
Lol
They would have to dismantle it and transport by boat
My respect for the 747 landing
About 20 years ago I got to see the AN-124 land at the Medford, OR airport. Not sure why it was there, I think it had something to do with Erickson Aviation, but when it was flying in, it just kept coming, I kept thinking, "It HAS to be here already!" it took probably 10 minutes from when we could first see it to when it finally reached the end of the runway to turn around, it was MASSIVE. I couldn't imagine seeing the AN-225 since its supposed to be longer.
I've flown on a 747 and an A380, but for some reason, the AN-124 seemed so much larger than those were.
A well-deserved like for the landing of "Mriya" AN-225
Ain’t gonna lie but the initial impact while landing would have broken the tail section off in all the planes that landed that way lol
But as we know everything is possible in game by the use of some tweaks here and there 😂
wery sad, but An-225 "Mria" is no more...He been prey of war.
I know 😥
Nice video. Good job!
Great flying 👍🏼

DON'T SINK!!!!!!
great landing with the 787 the first time lol
No truer words of wisdom were spoken than “don’t sink”!
I never would've thought an A320 Neo could get as low as 97 knots on approach lol 😆
sadly AN225 will never take off again in real life

R.I.P. Mriya.
Good thing you mentioned (In MSFS) o.w. I'd have tried it IRL !
looked like a carrier landing! unbelievable
You'd swear there was a wire, given the amount of speed they wash off.
My landing skills is actually almost the same like you but mine is a bit off
Aw thanks for the love :)
Goodbye An-225
😥
FYI in the planes that have the verbal "Dont Sink" Warning there is usually a brightly colored acknowledge button to stop it (pretty sure in the cessna 172 with anphibs its next to the landing gear button)
don't think about it
I flew the ‘225 from Hillsboro to Portland. With full fuel. I believe Saba is about the same length
Funny but it's too easy without damage, in the last landing I guess you damaged the gears
Imagine if one of those big planes did manage to land there. It wouldn’t be able to take off again. Would they disassemble it on the runway or just make it ”fly” off the strip as far as possible and clean up the wreckage?
In situations where planes land that they won’t be able to take off again (like in a field or something) they’d take the most expensive stuff off like engines and put them on a truck to load onto a cargo plane and fly back to rolls Royce or GE,
since he managed to land as he hit the embankment in the right angle and use the bounce like you could do with a ball the bigger planes would instantly break in half. there is nothing like any chance of managing A landing there without complete destruction of the plane.
If it lands safely it can usually take off but they literally strip it down to minimum weight. Seats, baggage bins, they strip it down to absolute minimum possible to fly, and then try to make the math work. They even try to artificially increase the runway by clearing some stuff they might have there like antennas, trees, everything.
And as a last resort just disassemble it for scraps.
Újra megépítik!! 💛💙
Not bad. Not bad. Waiting for the next video with Concorde and space Shuttle.😄
With enough headwind, the Antonov 225 can land on a runway that's just 100 meters long!
It can also use no runway at all! But it can only do it once and the recipient has to go searching for their cargo.
@@arandompersonontheinternet2282 i believe they have actually used it to land on dirt landing straps, they use special wheels and landing gears. I could be wrong tho maybe it was one of the smaller antonovs
@@krijn2150 Probably the -124 or similar. But I was joking.

Pure sadge that this AN-225 (dream) was recently destroyed due to a war in Ukraine with Russia.
Sadly, the AN-225 has been destroyed in the Russian - Ukranian war today.
Yes I know, very very sad. But it's still 'just' a plane, for the people who fight for their lives there it's much worse 😥
