1. If you have the curb idle below 900 rpm that’s a problem needing attention 2. Change the sintered bronze fuel filter 3. Blow out the idle circuits. Idle needs to be where the engine is happy not low because you’re trying to make the cam chop more. Let the cam talk for itself! 👍👍
It's set at 950, the cam definitely plays a good tune no matter what, though IF I let it lug a bit it DOES sound even meaner ;) But no need to scare the children ;) Haven't literally touched this carb since we put it on the motor years ago so probably time to pull it off and do a little maintenance. Fortunately I also have some VERY talented folks in my corner that can help if I need it
There is something very zen like when I clean up an old part in my glass bead cabinet. Just watching the crud disappear and the clean surface appears is satisfying.
@@AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin The manifolds you have, very curious about the dual quad setup, the performer and some variety of med height single plane. I don't know if the 350 will be able to utilize the dual quad, however the carbs you have with it may be small enough.
Good because that's kinda my thing! Unfortunately some of these old things are a bit more frustrating than others trying to bring the back to life. I'll call this video a partial victory, but in the end I'll win eventually!
Slowly getting there :) Was hoping to really hit it by Jan 1st, but will keep cranking and wrenching and get there eventually. More important than the overall number is the number of ACTIVE viewers, which thankfully is also doing pretty decently well.
I was going to say the same thing you said toward the end is some air craft paint stripper happy new years to you and your lady and happy birthday to her as well could that possibly be clear coat on that intake mine was blasted and clear coated and it looks just like yours good luck
Happy New Year. One of those Pontiacs needs to become a David Pearson NASCAR tribute car and would be a perfect spot for that dual quad set-up. You are possibly dealing with a bad anodizing and/or porosity sealing situation. Will need to be chemically stripped.
I like the green 72 lemans very nice ! Is the blue 65 olds in the back what the big block olds is for? That vapor hone is very impressive! Happy new year!
The green one was my initial experience in the Pontiac world and it's something I have very much enjoyed driving and owning. Needs some TLC for spring time so it's back in action to look perty and go to car shows again. Yes the blue '65 F85 Olds is what the 455 Olds on the engine stand in the shop is for, unfortunately it's one of our projects so it's in cold storage for... a while
Happy New Year Austin, Rich, Katrina and all the Lucore family. During your walk showing us your Le Mans, did I see a 1963 Buick Riviera? Love that car, but I`m an old fart.😁 Ever think about a ATM carb? Get an OMG model, Bill loves them, runs great out of the box. Hell Austin, I like ALL the cars you have, (in `67 I was 10, now 67). Very cool intake, can`t wait is it`s home. Can you use harder grit in the blaster on the twin carb manifold?
I watched this after midnight, so happy new year to you guys too! I'll look at my Offy dual quad and see if its coated or not, if I remember I'll reply here or on FB. A 350 isn't going to care about the intake, other than single planes will wipe out the little bit of low end torque they have. A 400 or 455 with ported heads could see a difference, but most intakes will make roughly the same power as an iron factory piece.
Q jet 455---- throttle base plate screws are loose Austin. Simple fix, pop the Q jet off the intake, do NOT !!! turn any Q jet upside down, ( this ain't no Holley) Always leave it top side up. Hold it high enough to get to the big philius heads butterfly throttle plate screws & remove them and clean both sides of the bottom of the throttle plate gasket areas and the bottom mating side of the main housing of the Q jet. Then replace the throttle plate base gasket to the carb main body housing and tighten the big Philius throttle plate base screws with a new throttle plate to main body gasket, then clean and replace the carb to intake gasket area & replace the intake to carb gasket and your problem will be solved with nothing more then 2 gaskets. The key is ------ do NOT / DO NOT EVER! turn a Q jet up side down or on it's side ever unless you plan on a complete rebuild, (witch it does not need yet) Them screws back off all the time when the Ohio temp drops. 😉 P/S, them dual AFBs are going to run you CRAAAAAAAZY and Bob Mcvays dyno will prove it. I got the same ones here for a SBC and can't even GIVE them away, yeah there that bad.
Aluminum and steel don't play well together. I would have heated the plug with a torch and then touched a candle to it. The wax melts and seeps into the joint. The heat also effects the two metals differently as the aluminum expands faster than the steel which should help break the bond the two metals that seem to form over time.

Intake testing? YES! We get a cool video with you and Bob, and you find out which one works best on the 350 HO.

Happy New Year
Yes, chemical strip it.
I love the sound of the quadrajet!!!!!
yes for the showdown!
What would you want to see tested? What would be interesting/enticing?

Give you a hundred bucks for that old beat up Riviera. Happy new year Austin and crew.
Good stuff Austin! Love seeing old things being put back into use! Happy New Year.

That intake came out looking great!!!! At work we have a dry ice blaster for cleaning the tire molds.
Getting close to 10k subs Austin! Happy new year from Kanuckistan

Love, Love, Love the pontiac content!!! Happy New Year to you old pontiac bud!!!
Happy New Year Brother and Ms Katrina.!!!.
Dissimilar metals corrode/seize due to Electrolytes 🤔
Even the Holley doesn't have the sound of the quadrajet!!!!!
When you get done cleaning intake shoot clear over aluminum to maintain clean look.
Happy New Year’s, Austin!
Cut the water crossover from the front of the intake so you can swap them without draining coolant
Hi Austin! Happy New Year! Hope all is well and Katrina is on the mend!
Great video. Steve from Mississippi I watch every video yall put out
Happy New Year Austin.

I would love to see a comparison on a Pontiac intake. My first car was a 68 LeMans..... 350 3 speed. Love you Austin. Happy New Year. 🎉🎉🎉🎉a❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
I love what you are doing mat and I love you cars
Use a long die grinder and wire wheel stubby brush and deglaze that intake of that crud.
Would love to see a Pontiac intake shoot out , comparison, or whatever you call it, Thanks

Send the offy to the powder painter and have them run it thou the furnace.... Heat may work, if not they have a chrome powder paint
Put a little bit of heat on those pipe plugs it helps a bunch
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
Spread bore yes sir!!!!!

I used Speedbead from Skat Blast up there in Canfield Oh Ho Ho. Can’t afford Vaporhone.
Hmm… wonder if it should have been tossed in the hot tank
Austin ain't you going to paint that manifold of two carburetor manifold
What about the pinto that you got from Kevin

Only getting one cheek ROFLMFAO!!!!!!
I would powder coat the Offenhauser
Someone powdercoated the intake you need special chemicals to strip powdercoat off
Your gonna need a bigger fire for sure. lol.
His last engine? Pull it and put it away. Build another. Remeberance is worth so much in the automotive community
Its probably a aircraft paint take it to a strip club
i think you should leave it alone
No it dont
Hey, Austin you need to g3t a super scraper from mortske repair. They're frickin awesome. Another little you tuber
