Stone Temple Pilots were lumped in with grunge, but they came from San Diego and weren't influenced by any of the same stuff - they just broke through at the same time as Seattle. Their lyrics tend to be more abstract or cryptic, so don't worry so much about trying to decipher the literal meaning so much as taking in the impression. RIP Scott Weiland, an amazing performer.
I was told they were grunge but personally I always thought they were way better sounding than the other grunge bands. They sounded more Rock to my ears and I loved it. I had no clue they were from San Diego! That explains so much. Thank you.
Some more great songs by them are Sex Type Thing, Dead and Bloated, Creep, Crackerman, Big Empty, Interstate Love Song, Tripping On A Hole In A Paper Heart.
The genre is 90's grunge. Lead singer is the late Scott Weiland. After leaving STP, Scott joined with Slash ,Matt, and Duff from Guns 'N' Roses to form Velvet Revolver.
STP - “Interstate Love Song” & “Vaseline” also good tunes. But TBH you guys are sleeping on Chris Cornell singing for Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, and Audioslave. You haven’t really broken into 90’s grunge until you’ve heard Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog, originators of the genre. Chris Cornell is one of the GOATS for rock vocalists. He’s inextricably linked to my own rock journey, Soundgarden being the first band I ever saw live, after hopping the beer garden fence with my buddies in 11th grade. RIP Chris Cornell
I loved "Purple", and there are a ton of tracks including Vaseline that are terrific, and Interstate is a good one too, but they played that song to DEATH in the 90's. I think i couldnt listen to an "alternative" radio station for more than an hour without hearing that song.
I would also suggest Big Empty by STP. I agree on Chris Cornell, they are sleeping on both him and Eddie Veddar imo!! If I had instagram I'd be spamming them for Outshined and Rusty Cage for some Soundgarden, and the MTV Unplugged version of Black, as well as the Pinkpop version of Porch for some Pearl Jam.
Totally agree. Chris was untouchable. "Like a Stone" would be a perfect opening course to his voice. Then segue to "Show Me How to Live" and "I Am the Highway".
From song facts: The lyrics were inspired, in part, by an unfortunate news story in Stone Temple Pilots' hometown of San Diego, California about a missing young woman who was later discovered dead by local law enforcement ("And I feel, when the dogs begin to smell her..."). At a concert in Columbus, Ohio on May 17, 2008, lead singer Scott Weiland said that he and STP drummer Eric Kretz wrote the lyrics in a hot tub after hearing the story. Weiland has described the song as "a metaphor for a lost obsessive relationship." Bassist Robert DeLeo came up with the riff for this song in the back of a U-Haul truck the band was using for a local tour. The song's instantly recognizable chord structure was inspired by DeLeo's love of ragtime music.
WOW!! Thank you SO very much for sharing that info!! I've loved this song for years (and the lyrics mean something to me on a personal level) However, I love knowing the inspiration behind it from the the writers.... Thank you!!😊❤
@@BrettLesPaul I don't think he wrote it from a killers perspective.... more wrote it about an obsessive love (unrequited) and the power (and dangers) it has to overtake a person.... not real sure but, I definitely don't think he meant to glorify killers and/or a serial killer. Just my thoughts for whatever it's worth... 😐
Yeah, yeah & I don’t like Monday. The dogs finding her? She was savagely murdered & a huge manhunt was underway-these clowns profited from a tragedy, like the Boomtown Rats did with the Spence murders, hence my ‘I DON’T LIKE MONDAYS’
I like "Wicked Garden" and "Vaseline". Scott Weiland was the lead singer. During a split from STP, he was with Velvet Revolver. Two of their songs: "Slither" and "Fall to Pieces".

Still no "love" button, but I can't say this enough about how much I love watching later generations enjoy the music I grew up with. This is definitely a sad song with a dark backstory, welcome to realization through music in the early 90s. Peace!
Collective Soul is a band from roughly the same time period as being in the spotlight as STP (early 90s). They have a couple of great songs like Gel, December, Where the River Flows, The World I Know, and Shine. I think the heavy riffs and lead singer's voice will appeal to Jay and the amazing lyrics will wow Amber. Trust me on this!
Collective Soul is a great band, sadly overlooked in my opinion. They've made several really good albums after the first two most people know of. Worth checking out for those who liked their earliest work.
My all time favorite band. They were even able to do a song with Sir Elton John-"Perfect Day". But really, they have no bad songs. Examples include Precious Declaration, Shine, Run, December.
Ok,...now that you have done "STP" which is awesome...many more to do...."Interstate Love Song" is a must! But now it's time for some Alice in Chains....think you will like them & you will love Layne Staley's voice...may he RIP>... First suggestion would be "Man in the Box"..."Would"....& "Down in a Hole"...so many more!!
I was in an STP tribute. Check out ALL their CD’s and especially the deeper cuts. The singer had many demons which you can tell influenced his lyrics. The bassist & guitarist are brothers and had a jazz background. And I loved performing their material! Listen to “Hello, It’s Late” & “A Song For Sleeping”, great songs that were never played on the radio.
LOVE this song and Grunge.... one of the most influential sub-genres in Rock history (IMO)!!! Glad you've been introduced to STP and that you liked it!!! Keep 'em coming!!😉😎👍
Really love these guys. Glad you finally got around to them. As others have said Interstate love song is one of their hits you should definitely check out. Scott weiland was such a talented singer. It was an incredible loss when he died Dec 3rd 2015. I attended school with him at Edison high school in Huntington beach CA. And sang with him in several of the choirs. His raw talent was evident even back then. Every time I watch an STP video his voice takes me back to those days. Thanks so much for checking them out.
The MTV unplugged version of this is unbelievably good. And also check out their cover of Dancing Days! And Ron, you got the right vibe because the our a California band from San Diego, CA
STP! Let's go! The late singer Scott Weiland's son is the lead singer for a band called Suspect208. Also in the band is Metallica bassist's son and GNR guitarist's Slash's son.

My favorite song from STP. This was part of my soundtrack of life in the early 90s. Watching this on MTV in the afternoons while doing chores at home. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Sang so many road-tripping singalongs with this wonderfully raspy voiced image in our head. Nowhere near the capability but, damn, were those great sing-a-longs.
STP is one of my favorite bands from the 90's. I would love to see you react to their songs Still Remains and Lounge Fly and I second the comments suggesting Interstate Love Song and Vaseline. STP definitely has a vibe and so many great songs. Thank you so much for this awesome reaction! Scott Weiland had an incredible raspy voice that was instantly recognizable. RIP Scott - you are missed.
I m almost 50 now...and i m glad i grew up and listening such a music,grunge in 80s,90s with STP,Pearl jam, Soundgarden,AIC,RATM etc...that tome was amazziiiiing 😀😁👍🏼👍🏼
Oh my gosh!! Someone else had a hard time remembering their name when they first heard of them! 😁 I had to say it over and over practicing to buy their 1st CD at the music store. That was back in the day when you had to go to a store to buy music... But no matter. They became my absolute favorite 'alternative rock' band after listening to that album. (RIP Scott Weiland.) Another STP song that's my fave, and since you like great guitar rifs you'll like Vaseline. If you get a chance, listen to the acoustic version of Plush (MTV Unplugged). It's outstanding.

I remember hearing this for the first time thinking: Did Pearl Jam put out a new record? Kept listening to the voice and I’m like No that’s not Eddie Vedder’s voice! Love STP they sound great!
This video was on MTV in my Jr High/High School days (early to late 90's) so much. Yes, back then MTV (Music Television) actually played Music Videos almost all day.
Check out the still Grunge, but more bluesy and at least to me, a masterful (and my favorite) singer Chris Cornell......Check out anything with him singing from Soundgarden (Songs: Spoonman, Blackhole sun, Pretty Noose, Day I tried to live) to Audioslave (Songs: Cochise, Like a Stone) to his solo stuff (Songs: You know my name, Flutter Girl, Pillow of your bones).....Another good suggestion would be "Temple of the Dog" (Songs: Hunger Strike, Say Hello 2 Heaven, Times of Trouble) which had Chris Cornell, members of Pearl Jam, and also Mother Love Bone in a one time, one album release.
Cornell had one of the greatest voices ever and his Like a Stone with Audioslave and his solo Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart are so haunting and unforgettable.
This song and the Pearl Jam tune you reacted to got me squirrelling back through my record collection to find other songs from the early/mid-nineties grunge and rock scene and I think you'd enjoy No Rain by Blind Melon (cos I know you likes bands with odd names and preferably a fruit in there somewhere). Keep spreading the love
Whoever requested this kisses literally. I’ve seen STP twice and Velvet Revolver once. STP was my first concert. When Scott died I took it hard. They were a big part of my teen years. 💜
I got to see them live in concert years ago at the Casino in Mt Pleasant Michigan... They were late coming on stage so they ended up doing a two hour show with a four song encore... Such an amazing show..
I really enjoyed your previous reactions to STP. I have a couple of requests for you. Wicked Garden and Silver Gun Superman. These are a bit "dark" but very good songs. Hopefully you can get to these, soon.
Hi Rob Squad, I am new to your channel but I am loving the videos, I am 50 years old and some of you vids really take me back to my youth, I live in (England) the UK. I don't know if you will take my suggestion but here is one for your female Friday "Wilson Phillips - Hold On". One other thing is Deborah Harry from the band Blondie was born in Florida.
When the hair bands and glam rock ruined rock music many guys came out with the new sound of grunge rock and it was so freaking awesome, Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Alice in Chains, STP, puddle of mud, Creed to name a few just took over the scene of rock and it exploded so awesomely, and the rest is history. So many great singers in that era it was just a great time to listen to music then.
Hair metal didn't ruin anything. It was just another facet.of music in a time of complete decadence. If you really believe it ruined music then you obviously weren't old enough to experience the 80s in all its glory.
Is crazy to think that has been almost 10 years since Scott passed. I remember the day when that happened I was at received the news notification on my phone which I rarely pay attention to but that time I saw STP lead singer on it that immediately had my attention and when I read it it said that he passed away due to OD and I was in disbelief. I played STP at work that week to honor his memory ...
There is literally a deep well of music to explore for you two! Hall and Oats have some things to look at ( many to choose and enjoy)! Steve Winwood has many hits that are worth your time! Am enjoying you musical tour!
STP has so many good ones that range from deep to funky and they are seriously underrated as a 90’s band. Another one I’d love to see you do is Blind Melon. No Rain is their most commercial song but Tones of Home deserves a reaction.
Ah yes, I love this band! RIP Scott Weiland. I first listened to these guy’s in 1993. So many great songs! Thx again for this rock n roll train guys!! All Aboard!
Used to spend a lot of time at pool Halls with friends, and this album was always in heavy rotation on the Juke box or sound system. It is definately a song to just listen to when in a happy place with friends, having some beers or rye and coke, and just appreciate one of THE greatest Alternative albums ever made.
Stone Temple Pilots were lumped in with grunge, but they came from San Diego and weren't influenced by any of the same stuff - they just broke through at the same time as Seattle. Hell, Jerry Cantrell is from Texas, so there you go...
Interstate love song is another must listen from Stone Temple Pilots. Or STP for short.
Creep and Dead and bloated.
Yes, yes!! Another amazing song!!
Was just going to say Interstate song for sure ! Rock on !
Wicked garden unplugged also

I never considered them grunge I always considered them alternative rock. I know it's a fine line. I wonder what everybody else thinks. What genre?
@@midkingsteve definitely alt rock but I just call it rock

Kinda overrules that whole "raspy vocal" and "smooth vibe" thing. But, they're good to want to further understand the meaning of the song.
Always loved the sound of this yet slightly creeped out because it seemed like it might be written from the perspective of a serial killer.

Don't forget some Audioslave
And make sure you leave room for the artists’ Unplugged performances!
Smashing Pumpkins, anyone?! Though I reckon they should do Would? By Alice in Chains or Blackhole Sun by Soundgarden next.
You forgot Screaming Trees. Dust and Sweet Oblivion are both stone cold classic albums
Don't forget Bush.
Great song from a great band. Don't overlook that the drummer was doing some work!

Wallflowers , One headlight... Promise y'all be singing it all day...
Soooo many STP songs you can dive into. Not even going to start listing them. Lol
Peace of mind by Boston is a must listen
Want some 70's smashing drums check out humble pie and 30 days in the hole it's life changing
A very very happy Fathersday to you and may God bless you and your beautiful family
Love you guys and love how you present the videos
Thanks for doing “S.T.P.” Gave me chills. You have the best fans.
Another one of my favorite 90s, grunge-era songs!
Possum Kingdom by the Toadies is another jam from this era
STP has so many good ones that range from deep to funky and they are seriously underrated as a 90’s band. Another one I’d love to see you do is Blind Melon. No Rain is their most commercial song but Tones of Home deserves a reaction.
Ah yes, I love this band! RIP Scott Weiland. I first listened to these guy’s in 1993. So many great songs! Thx again for this rock n roll train guys!! All Aboard!
You've gotta do more of this band.
Used to spend a lot of time at pool Halls with friends, and this album was always in heavy rotation on the Juke box or sound system. It is definately a song to just listen to when in a happy place with friends, having some beers or rye and coke, and just appreciate one of THE greatest Alternative albums ever made.
One of my all time faves! Love me some STP.
Love love love this song. Happy Father's Day!!!!!!
I love my Grunge dayz in high school as my hair band dayz. The best time in music 70s - 90s ! ! !
Black Sabbath with Ronny James Dio as the singer - Heaven and Hell or Holy diver .
