I've had my X100F for four months. I'm used to full-manual 35mm film SLR cameras and older, simpler 'point and shoot' digital cameras, and at first I was confused by the plethora of external controls and built-in features which took a lot of learning and using to take advantage of. Now that I've had it for a while, I really like the built-in film simulations, the built-in neutral density filter simulation, the ability to change ASA/ISO values, and the digital short 'zoom'' feature. The camera is finally fulfilling my purpose for buying it in the first place: a handy, easy to carry digital camera for those times I don't want to carry around large bulky camera with a bagful of lenses. Dislikes? the placement of the 'Q' button: I can't tell you how many times I've accidentally pressed it with my right thumb at a critical moment but that's a matter of me being mindful of where I place my thumb when holding the camera to take a shot. Also, I find with the camera in 'full auto everything' mode: my camera invariably defaults to wide-open lens aperture. Anybody out there know how to get around that with the camera set for 'auto everything?' I know I can set it for 'aperture preferred auto' and pick the lens aperture myself, but I would like to find a way for the camera to pick smaller lens openings, say f/4 or f/5.6 when in 'full auto' mode. Like many reviews I've seen about this camera, I find images taken with the lens opening at f/2 or f/2.8 to be a bit soft. Other than those few niggling points, I find it to be a wonderful photographic instrument. Excellent informative video..I've learned more from this video than hours of reading through the owner's manual.
hi thomas, the built in nd filter is actually not just a simulation.. it is an actual nd filter placed inside the lens.. also, if you want the camera to pick smaller apertures while being on full auto, then you shouldn't even be in full auto at all. Just select an aperture and leave everything else on auto.. that's the easiest way to achieve what you want.. on this camera, f2 is known to be soft at very close distances i. e. when shooting less than 2 feet away from your subject.. it is a trade off for giving the x100f a very compact lens
This man Francis Bellefeuille is truely a magician. Why? -1- because the explanations are clear, and as Toms Puskas says : with Francis, I learn " much more than two days studying the user manual" (I'm French and even written in french, I hate the manual) ; -2- because his english speaking is neat, luminous, limpid : my scholar english practice is very good when written, but in vocal listening mode : so hard to follow and understand that usually, the speakers make chinese noise in my ears. Here, I understand what his english talk, at the speed and clearly articulated sound of his voice , and it's a revelation. Thank you. I hope to find others videoclips presenting others aspects and settings while using of the FUJI X100F by Francis Bellefeuille. ..
I have one of these beautiful cameras but the EVF curtain doesn't come down so I'm getting a double image under that setting. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
I have this camera purchased it recently still learning how to use it. Can I use a regular polarizing filter with it? (the kind with a rotating ring to get maximum polarizing effect?)
Yes. However, you will need to pick up the AR-X100 to be able to mount a filter to the front of the lens. You should also only use the EVF when using a polarizer, otherwise you will not see a preview of the effect.
As usual great video, guys. Does the manual auto focus options for photo carry over to video recording? Does the camera offer uncompressed video options? Thank you.
Thanks Marvin. We are a little confused about your question son "manual auto focus" being mutually exclusive. However, if you are asking about using Manual Focus when recording video, yes. you can adjust the focus manually while recording a movie. There are no options to change the movie compression or codec.
Yes. Focus peaking is available when recording video; you can not use "Digital Split Image". There are also the options for "AF+MF" and "Focus Check" prior to recording. In "Focus Check", once you start recording the view zooms back out to 100%
Question: Can i ise the camera using auto focus as normal without the joystick cause that joystick is for selecting a specific point on the screen, if i leave it on normal without using the joystick its pretty much ok no?
@@fujiguys Okay rating is not very good... sorry I am finding it difficult with all the settings in this camera and hope this app will be clearer. I have been a Sony RX100 series shooter for some years now and Panasonics I will have to watch more UA-cam 😉 Thanks for the quick reply
Hi. I can't seem to get my flash to work on my x100f. I am not on electronic shutter and I do not have my sounds turned off and the built in flash is turned on, but when I go into flash function settings the only thing highlighted is the off icon and I can not seem to turn it on or pick ttl mode or any other mode. Is there something else I may have off that is keeping the flash from being turned on?
Hi Fabien. Not sure if we are understanding your question correctly. There is no option to assign white balance to the front command dial. If you mean setting the "Exposure Compensation" to "C", you then press in on the front command dial to alternate between changing the exposure compensation and changing the ISO.
It has focus peaking with choices of colours and it had digital split image in colour or monochrome for manual focus assis. Yes you can save up to 7 custom settings in the "Q"(quick) menu.
Do you mean the review screen that shows your image after you have taken it? If so, that is a setting you can adjust... Go to Settings > Screen Settings > Image Disp. and choose "Off".
If you are looking through the viewfinder as an optical viewfinder, and you have the EFV in the lower right corner, you can turn that off by rotating the front EVF/OVF switch toward the lens, with your eye up to the viewfinder. fujifilm-dsc.com/en/manual/x100f/first_step/monitor/index.html#viewfinder_selector
Hi!, I had a question about the resilience when it comes to various weather conditions. I plan on taking mine to travel everywhere but being extremely careful as well. I am going to be seeing some waterfalls and some really humid areas. I plan on taking zip lop bags to put the camera in when not using it to keep out moisture. Is there anything else I should be concerned with?
Acclimatisation is the key as well. Change of temperatures can cause condensation be sure to keep the camera in a case if you are changing from cold to warm and vice versa, for at least an hour, if not more, before you open the case or bag. Before you come inside, remove the card so you can download your pictures while the camera acclimatises.
Still can't get the flash to work and the geo tagging does not work. I followed the instructions but when I got to the location setting on my iPhone 7 plus it does not show the fuji app for me to click all location service.
For the flash, it depends on your settings. Electronic shutter and bracketing/continuous shooting may disable the flash. As for the locations service. and app trouble shooting see here. app.fujifilm-dsc.com/en/camera_remote/guide02.html If you are still experiencing issues please contact the closest support centre to you.
Press and hold the Disp/Back button for about 2 seconds and you will see the mapping for the Fn buttons. You can assign the Wireless Communication to any of the Fn buttons. Hope that helps!
Hi Smita. First ensure the focus selection switch is in "S" or "C". Press the Menu button and in the AF/MF screen towards the bottom is where you will see Face/Eye detection settings. Toggle to the right for the various choices. When you are in C-AF (continuous AF) you will have face detection, but not eye detection.
Those are the focus modes:M - Manual FocusS - Single Auto Focus. When you press the shutter button the camera will acquire focus and stay locked at that focus distance.C- Continuous Auto Focus. When you 1/2 press the shutter the AF will start and will adjust as you move the camera, or the subject moves. When you fully press the shutter, the camera will capture the image at the last distance it focuses one.

ISO is the short form of ‘ISO 5800:2001' which is the standard for measuring the speed of colour negative film. So this is indeed I.S.O and not iso (eesow).
It is pronounced I.S.O. ISO stands for International Standards Organisation, who standardized film sensitivity in 1974, taking over from ASA (American Standards Association) which was most commonly used standard since it's creation by and due to the market strength of Kodak in 1943. Prior to that was DIN (Deutsche Institut für Normung) who set the standard in 1936. Prior to that it was all a bit of a mish mash of loads of different manufatuers doing their own thing.
