Israel pushes ahead with a military operation in Rafah as cease-fire talks continue | DW News

- Israel's military says it now has operational control of the Gazan side of the Rafah border crossing. It says it took action following intelligence that the crossing was being used for terrorist purposes. As that operation inside Rafah unfolds - negotiations are expected to get underway in Egypt on a proposed cease-fire deal. Israel refused plan put forward by Qatari and Egyptian mediators, saying it doesn't meet its demands. Hamas had earlier agreed to the draft deal -- a small step towards possible peace that triggered celebrations inside the Gaza Strip. For more we spoke to DW Correspondent Rebecca Ritters in Jerusalem, and Daniel Gerlach, Middle East expert and Editor-in-Chief of Zenith magazine.

You can’t negotiate with a terrorist, unless you don’t understand the meaning of the word
Pstinians have brought it upon themselves. no ceasefire, no evacuation!
This is a historical example how governments can manipulate public opinion and commit atrocities under the guise of greater good.
Means Netanyahu and cronies
@@Michaelxx2inyou have brought it upon your soul.
Which word?!
The reporter keeps saying hamass accepted the peace deal, but it was a deal that hamass themselves pushed and not one that Israel had any part of. Thats like saying hamass agreed to themselves
True, DW is loosing the plot.
Hamas didn't accept the deal approved by Israel. Hamas is spreading lies that they had accepted the deal so that if israel attacks them the whole world will pity hamas. Without lies, something dies
For the main stream mass media its not important what the word mean.
All they're working on is to seed the keywords inside their texts.
Keywords like "war crimes" "genocide" "ceasefire" "occupation" and all those used by pro-hamas.
Doesnt matter its true or not. What matters is the sound of it broadcasted in public.
why is your narrative always delusional and deflective, because this is the only time that hamas accepted the deal as is without adjustment, but it is always like that, deals rejected and palestenian side blamed for it, and you move on to the next lie
It’s about the land Sir one day you will understand.
Hamas agreed to a version of the ceasefire deal that Israel had already rejected. Absolutely absurd. But if we are honest it's a clever move by Hamas to put international pressure on Israel.
Im quite sure hamas would agree to a ceasefire that eliminated the state of Israel. That hamas agrees to a ceasefire deal is pretty meaningless ofcourse.
Clever move based on stupidity of the uneducated masses.
We'll see how long that will keep the stand.
They’re pushing for cease fire because they know that their leaders hiding in Rafah will be getting a dose of their own medicine now.
Hanas leaders are very clever. They present to their people that they want peace but Israel not.
Hamas provocates Israel to continue the war when Hamas killed three Israeli soldiers at the borders.
But Hamas says to the Palestinians that Hamas would accept ceasefire.
.
Israel is angry and wants to fight.
Then Hamas plays the victim card.
I agree. I agree to the terms of the deal that was offered where you pay me 95% of all your money forever in exchange you get to keep your soul (sort of).
Dont trust Hamas

@glenagarrett4704 we are not living in the middle ages anymore.
hamas has twisted the deal, a deal without a release of all hostages is not a deal. There will be NO cease fire without all hostages released. hamas is feeling the pressure from Israel.
.
read the deal first then comment....they will realease all hostages in two times
No hamas did NOT accept the proposed deal, hamas created its own "deal" and accepted that - without telling anyone what they did. This is why Israel refused to sign it. Get your reporting correct for the future.
Israel doesn't want a ceasefire, or the hostages they want to complete their Genocide ....
That was being my confuse because they can not make decision without Esrael, like Poland Britain they try to make ceasefire without Russia after they negotiate Russia they deny the offer.
Hamas killed three Israeli soldiers then Hamas said that Hamas will peace.
Hanas provocates Israel then Hamas pretends to want a peace
and plays the victim card.
I have seen the news last day is y i said this is my confuse less wait for Esrael will hear from them they allow ceasefire or not.

I don't understand why only 10 hostages in a deal! Why not at least 80 hostages to be released in a deal?
Because the IDF already killed most of the hostages during the bombing campaigns. Can't you read.
Why not all?
Honestly, i know it's gonna sound really cruel but i dont wish them to be alive especially the women. Imagine the trauma they have to carry on for their entire lives, if i were them, i dont wish to be alive anymore.
Why do these women don't mention that this was an old 'agreement' and not an 'agreement' on the table that Israel had agreed upon - but now we got the children - what would any analysis of the world's fate be without accompanied by crying children?
Nope it was not an old agreement , it was checked and cleared by the US. Why are you playing games ? They agreed to release hostage in exchange of ceasefire. Why do you want to continue war ?
Because this version of reporting is more sensational and brings more views. Views equal money. I thought this news channel was different and cared more about reporting facts but they seem to be similar to other profit driven news sources.

@@Salara2130because for news its all about netanyahu, whwn its not.
@@Salara2130 The idea that Hamas accepted a ceasefire proposal is misleading. The "proposal" they accepted wasn't proposed by anyone, it was Hamas' own plan and it's a complete joke. They demand Israel completely withdraws from Gaza, allowing Hamas to take over again and in exchange they hand over a handful of hostages, not all of whom will be returned alive.
Why only 10 hostages in a deal? There's something wrong in it, are all the hostages still alive?
😅😅
I am sure numerous hostages have died either as a result of Hamas murdering them or the IDF killing them through their grossly negligent tactics (such as when the IDF shot and killed three hostages who were waving a white flag and calling out for help in Hebrew). Honestly, between the bombing of facilities where hostages might be kept, the lack of target verification on the ground, and the heavy restriction of humanitarian supplies that would be used to keep hostages alive, the IDF seems to be fighting this war with little regard for the hostages at all.
Many probably aren't.
Hamas aren't the best care takers.
But it doesn't really matter.
There's not much Israel can do to get them back other than push ahead and hope for the best.
Hamas doesn't bargain in good faith.
do you think they would still be alive after the mass destruction of GAZA by the Israeli forces
The families of the hostages are displaying extreme naivity.

Thank you DW for your unwavering support for Israel. This channel is an outstanding example of how the free press voluntarily does what you do.
Satire off …
There should only be unbiased reporting, no support for any side.
As for commentaries and analyses, those should be separate and labelled as such.
Yes, the press should only convey facts. On the other hand, this is DW, a German organisation. It takes one side, employs ex IDF employees, has no reporters in aGaza and almost never speaks about the concerns of the Palestinian people. To thank them openly for that type of job makes that unacceptable bias crystal clear.
DW reporting that HAMAS has accepted the deal may be misinformation from a reputable news outlet . They should have given us the details of the deal that HAMAS accepted and also the details of the deal that Isreal proposed. Giving a balanced report is what I think Journalists should do.
They left that way long long time ago.
I guss based on what i read it will be in 3 stages first a 42 day cool down and hostages exchange
Then in second stages people can go to their homes or what left of it 3 stage something about rebuilding
40.days of ceasefire and a not specified calm period afterwards. Israeli negotiators already accepted that. (The Young Turks)
Just imagine if they actually just gave back the hostages without wanting anything in return this would stop
Why did you omit that Israel accepted the deal 2 weeks ago (which already was extremely generous towards Hamas) and now Hamas didn't accept that deal, but substantially modified version of it.
I think you have lost the plot. Israel didn't accept the deal, they made the deal.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I read reports that this ceasefire deal in fact wasn’t any sort of deal since Israel wasn’t even involved. How can one party accept a deal that was never negotiated? Hamas “agreed” to a modified version of the ceasefire made by Egypt/Qatar negotiators that Israel never proposed or agreed to. For one, the modified version had changed the schedule of returning hostages from weekly to monthly (or maybe from daily to weekly, can’t remember.)
A deal cannot favor Israel only who is actually occupying Palestine with a brutal occupation. Don’t you know Israel wants Gaza free of ALL Palestinians. Netanyahu made clear that deal or no deal he was going to invade Rafah. Do some research. Learn the facts and share them.

People complaining hamas accepted that their own deal are ignorant. They accepted the deal egypt and qatar proposed and yes it involves realeasing all hostages in 3 phases over 42 days. Its not about the hostages it about the land.
Finally someone who is well informed. So many, ,many people commenting here are so uninformed about the 75 year occupation of Palestine by Israel. Does anyone out there understand where millions of so-called Palestinians originally came from? In 1971, 3.5 million Jordanian citizens that considered themselves Palestinians, at the behest of the PLO, attacked the Jordanian army, attempting to depose the Jordanian Monarchy. After soundly defeating the PLO, some 13 years later In 1984, Jordan drove them out of Jordan, and into Lebanon. Lebanon promptly drove them out to the south; they ended up in what is now called Gaza. They're not Palestinians, they came from Jordan. If you don't accept this, or don't believe it, do a little reading. Look it up on Google, about as far left an information platform that exists today.
