- This Ibanez Soundtank PH5 Phaser has an On / Off switch problem. Sometimes it turns on and sometimes it doesn't. This is a common issue with the Ibanez Soundtank pedals. In this video we try to repair it. We discover that the switch is fine and the problem is with the design of the circuit.

Man.. replaced mine with a 0,010. Works like new ! Thanks!!
This is a lifesaver! I'm working on an SC10 with switching problems right now, this greatly helps understand the circuit
The SC10 uses the same switching circuit. It probably also has the same 1nF cap. That cap probably needs to be a little bigger. At least 10nF like the BOSS pedals.
Nice vid! I was just trying to figure out how to get the top part off mine so I could check the switch, the disassembly part really helped me, thanks!
Also I just had the same problem on my Slam Punk. I tested the switch and it was working so I sprayed some contact cleaner on it and it solved my problem.
Just putting that out for anyone having similar problems, I’d check to make the switch isn’t just dirty after you check to make sure it’s working. Mine works great again after a spray of contact cleaner!
This is great, I have a FL9 that has been in a drawer for the last 20 years with the same problem....now, which drawer?....
I am currently building an FL9 using the service manual schematic and even the traced layout (rearranged to omit the active switching for true bypass). When you find out which drawer it is in and open it up to start troubleshooting, perhaps you could post here the resistance readings on pin 3 of the 3 VR trim pots, or voltage at pin 3 😀😀😀😀😀🍻🍻
Nice repair. I was only trying to find demos of the bass compressor but couldn’t pass this up, thanks!
Wow. Nice job.
I have two sound tanks and I may replace those caps before the issue arises. Thanks!
Just followed your steps here on my chorus and it works perfectly! thank you very much for the video. Btw ive located the cap thats labled C3 like in your video on my board
thank you!
i have a TL5 and it has the same problem with the switch. is it same to change the capacitor?
had no idea that could be the problem. I would have thought it was the switch all day long.
Sd 1 isnt turning off.. it turns on just fine but doesnt alwayz turns off.. do you think that might be same issue
It could be anything really. It could just be that the cover is not making contact with the switch properly. I would start by removing the cover and trying to turn on and off with your finger. Also remove the bottom plate and make sure the plastic insulator is in there between the board and the metal plate. After that inspect the solder joints . It could even be a faulty switch.
