They weren't brainwashed JUST by Jodi. The Mormon church referred members to Jodi & often paid her "counseling" fees. They endorsed what she was doing. Their church elders said this is the right thing to do.

The LDS church shames and manipulates their members. My best friend from high school was LDS and she considered herself “Jack Mormon” as well as her dad. She said the church constantly shamed them. I’ve studied the LDS cult and it is just that….a CULT! The LDS higher ups knew what Jody was doing and they supported her and sent people to her. She got wealthy off of this! Despicable!

I hope the church is held accountable too !! There were many people who complained to the church about jody and they did nothing, which tells me the church backs up this crap. How can one go to church service with your mouth duck taped (Jesse)

Kevin has done plenty even before Jodi came into their lives. He was okay with his wife not giving food to their kids as a punishment. He was okay with having the youngest daughter go hungry in school because these sorry excuses of parents couldn't be bothered to pack lunches for them. He was more than okay with his oldest son sleeping on a bean bag as his room was taken away. He didn't speak up then, what makes anyone think he has his childrens best interests at heart?
    Edit:
Let's also not forget that they exploited these kids to earn money, but then they owned nothing. Because in their own words everything belonged to Ruby. I remember them even saying "Mom is letting me use the bedroom" when moving in to a new house bought with the money they earned from filming the kids. Did Kevin every step in? Of course not. These kids had it worse than Hollywood child actors

I'd walk bare footed over hot coals & drive to the ends of the earth to let my child, in the most traumatic event of their lives, see my loving face for a matter of seconds never mind 10 minute hearings. That right there is the sum of Kevin's emotional maturity, or lack thereof, & undoubtedly shows in no uncertain terms just how minimally invested in his child's welfare at a time they need him most. No surprise of course.

The not wanting to drive 250 miles shocked me too. Seriously? I would be very wary about letting him near those kids. I think even now, once he got those kids back, this man would put his wife first and find a way to get her back into their lives and they would be right back at it, just get better at hiding the abuse.

Their case might have only taken 10-15 minutes (maybe more). My guess is that his lawyer even recommended during the preliminary hearing not to make the drive due to the complexity of the case. The system operates slowly and bureaucratically.
I was actually arrested on trumped up charges by my ex inlaws during the breakup of my marriage. They had to have either bribed or exchanged favors to get me out of my house for an hour or 2 for my ex husband to get some of his things. I thought Ruby could not get any worse when she was exploiting her children on UA-cam for money. She shared their private, personal embarrassing information for the world to see. She took Christmas away from two of the children and they had to watch the other children open presents and have fun. She refused to take her 5yr old daughter lunch to school after a teacher called her. The child was responsible for making and remembering her lunch as a kindergartener. She actually even said she hoped no one would give her daughter any food so she could learn a lesson. All these things she proudly posted on UA-cam and was paid handsomely for it. But this mess with Jodi and the physical abuse is just mind boggling.

Kevin was an active part of Connexions. He was in some of their lecture and workshop videos long after Ruby cut her family off. People point the finger at Kevin because he was the only one with legal rights to the kids. There’s no reason Bonnie and Julie (who both helped support Shari) should be under the microscope more than Kevin is.
Plus he was just as emotionally abusive as Ruby was back in their family vlogs. He took his son’s bedroom away, sent him away to Anasazi and allowed Ruby to food restrict and control the children. He’s fighting for custody because he wants his job at BYU back. Getting the kids back would allow him to argue he was just another victim. Shari knows the real story, and whoever she thinks the kids should go to is who people should be supporting.

If you listen to his interview I think you may have a different perspective on what may have been going on with Kevin during this time. I don't know for sure of course, I wasn't there, but a lot of what Kevin is saying in this statement is very similar to Adam's experience. Adam and his then wife originally started seeing Jodi for marriage counselling and she destroyed his life.

But what I was questioning is whether or not Kevin knew what was happening to men like Adam Paul Steed, before he decided to go ahead and spend 13 months neglecting his kids. If he did know, it's almost believable that he would have gone along with it, because what else could he do in that case? He'd have been stuck between a rock and a hard place, and hoping that things didn't get any worse. The church wasn't going to help him - the church sent him and his family to Jodi.
But if he wasn't aware, then WTF? If he wasn't aware that these other men were facing the shitstorm that is Jodi's weird, man-hating wrath, well then, he's just a wimpy deadbeat Dad, isn't he? He didn't appear to make any effort on behalf of the kids during the time he was away from them. Nor did he secure the services of a lawyer.
I suspect he's just a wimpy, deadbeat Dad, and honestly, I'm shocked he hasn't been charged with neglect/abandonment, because what he did certainly fits the criteria according to Utah's legal definition.

@@jodibraun6383 I agree. I think he is pretty shady. I think he has some pretty damning things in those electronic journals. I really think Ruby and Jody had him by the balls. But, I also think he was complicit in the abuse of his children. Shari didn’t leave only due to Ruby. I think it is B.S. that the sisters had no clue. People tend to learn abuse from their own abuse as a child. Just bc the other sisters weren’t abused so to speak doesn’t mean she wasn’t her parents ‘bad object’. The Church says it cares about the little children in Tim Ballard’s case, but doesn’t with Jody. Wild to me. I hope Kevin never gets his kids back. They have endured enough. The two youngest kids are going to have a very rough path. Chances are, they probably didn’t do anything. Jody convinced her own niece, why not Ruby’s kids.
I don’t think any of the abused men by Jody knew each other’s plights. What a sad case about Adam Steed. You know Hillam and the Steed connection, right? You seem pretty insightful. Well look at what happened to Hillam’s great grandchild. Birds of a feather flock together. You will understand what I mean if you look it up. Life and humans are complicated. Two things can be true at once. It'll take time to work out how much and to what acts can be placed at the feet of various people.

I was in the opposite scenario, I was the wife that had no support. After I had left my husband, we had a family support worker that was supposed to go to each place and decide which place would be best for our children to be. The family maintenance worker just went off the reservation and started accusing me to my ex that I was planning on moving to Mexico, that was never one of my plans. But he got my ex all riled up and then my ex decided to go for full custody of our kids based on those accusations. I have to say that during this time, the only friends I had were my exe's family members. So we did go to court, but by then I knew I didn't have any support to say that I was a good mother, as his family only stood behind him and his stories about how bad I was as a mother. Actually, I could say a lot more, but if I have any advice to give right now, it's to say make sure you do let other people know what is happening in your family life. Videos and text messages, how you are feeling, and be honest, with at least one person. This will really help to prove your side of the story, if there is ever a question

Peter, thanks for this segment. I mailed you a copy of my book about child abuse and neglect, just fyi. The courts do make a distinction of culpability between abuse and neglect ("standing by" parent or guardian), but kids have rights and in the world's history, that remains a fairly new concept (as are the laws). The Reporting Law, helped along by my Dad (C. Henry Kempe) and which protected any CA reporter of concerns, passed in Colorado in 1960 and within two years throughout the US.

I'm glad someone sent you links to get familiar with the Mormon influence that is a huge part of this story.
There are numerous men who tell the same story about Jodi tearing their marriages apart. It all starts with Jodi separating the men from the women in counseling sessions and then the women are the "good guys" and the men are always the "bad guys". She also has a history of accusing young children of actual crimes, so I would be very skeptical of any accusation that Ruby's children were abusing other children. Jodi not only separates the women from their husbands, but also separates the mother from the children.
It must be understood that the Mormon religion considers masturbation and even a single instance of someone looking at pornography to be criminal. If either of those kids had been caught in even innocent touching of their own private parts they are labeled as having sex addiction and worse. Jodi was obsessed with "sexual" deviance and constantly accused teenage and younger kids of such things.
The Mormon Stories Podcast is a great podcast to learn about how Mormons in general are taught and then also has interviews with people who have come forward about Jodi in particular. I'm not implying that Mormons are bad or the religion is bad - it's a "high demand" religion that can be taken too far by some folks - like Jodi and Chad and Lori Vallow Daybell. That podcast is well worth checking out here on UA-cam for anyone who truly wants to understand this whole story because the idea of taking the LDS religion too far is important to this whole case.

Scumbag is worried that the money will be given to the kids, that is why he wants the kids, so he can control the money.

If my husband threw me out, unless I had a court order barring me from seeing my children, I would move Heaven and earth to still be able to see them. Kevin just seems like a very weak, ineffectual father.

Peter, I'm likely close to your Dad's age & understand the need to feel & read from a physical book. I actually swore for years I would never read a digital book. I'm not sure what ever convinced me to try but am glad I did because that first book made me email the author. I then started getting ARC books in return for reviews and it all somehow led me to working with several Christian authors. I do still always have a physical book I am reading though! Old habits...

I said the same thing about Kindle and Audible until book reading became so awkward and uncomfortable in my hospital bed ( I am disabled)! Then, after running out of my sleeping pills, I decided to give "Crime and Punishment" and "The Brothers Karamazov" along "War and Peace" a trial in Audiobooks! There is nothing better than listening to verbose and prosaic Russian novels as bedtime stories to fall asleep! Usually one chapter is enough to knock me out!

@@melissaharden4155 I bet they would be! It's ironic, when I first started reading this way was after coming home from a stay in the nursing home. I have been disabled for years but after that have become far worse & largely homebound. Listening when pain stops sleep is also huge plus!

From everything I've heard about Jodi and her habit of sexually shaming men for normal behavior, I don't believe the older boy lost his bedroom/privacy for 7 months over a silly prank. Sounds like all the men and boys were being punished including Kevin.

This sure has a cult-ish feel to it...be interesting to see how the evidence plays out. Many layers to this story.

I am most concerned about what I saw of Kevin’s actions on the Eight Passengers show. Kevin did seem to support Ruby regarding sending Chad to the brutal camp for a week. That is all I know for sure that raised concern. He did not sound disturbed about it. He actually chimed in on explaining it, and in a way that showed he was supportive of that punishment.

Jodi Hildebrants niece said in her interview that Jodi was trying to force her into admitting all sorts of things, including sexually. It makes me wonder if she has used term same technique on the children until one of them gave in and said he had abused other children. I assumed Ruby was talking about Russell as they also said that him and his younger sister shouldn't be around other children
