In Kenya Christianity and Westernization have eroded the culture and thus young generations are no longer restrained by culture in doing certain things. This has led to permissiveness in society and also enlightenment on personal rights. Parents have less control over their children especially people over 18 years. Girls in their 20s lack proper guidance and end up messing up getting children outside marriage. There are high rates of teenage and young adult pregnancies because of less parental control and permissiveness. Current data shows that teenage pregnancy (13-19) years in Kenya in 2023 was 15% down from 18% in 2014. Whereas average teenage pregnancy (13-19) in Nigeria is below 10%. High teenage (early) pregnancy rates in Kenya later lead to high single motherhood, not irresponsible men. Many single mothers in Kenya are just paying for the sins they committed while in their teenage and wild early adulthood, it has nothing to do with irresponsible men.
The data may be correct,but it has nothing to do with westernisation. In most kenyan cultures girls were married young.Even today there are communities with girl/child marriage. It has gone low because there are laws governing underage marriages , but not above 18.In kenyan North with majority moslim,the case is the same. So it's more a cultural thing than a western thing.

Culture is a B*tch because Nairobi lifestyle is very different from the coast, and western Kenya. What is acceptable in Nairobi may not be acceptable in Murang'a, Kisumu, Lamu etc. So when discussing issue take it with a lot of salt. Even in Nairobi westland culture is very different form the wetlands culture. Try driving in Eastlands and then try driving in west side of Nairobi there is a big difference and sometimes it's the same driver driving in both areas. Eastlands "sheng" is very different with the western side of Nairobi.
