I'm considering this pad. Thanks for putting up your Pack Wizard gear list. Very helpful for others like me who are trimming down their pack. Trying to get a fastpacking setup dialed and will upload my journey as I go.
@@ToolsTrucksTrails thanks for watching and joining along! For the price this pad is hard to beat!
@@DaveOffGrid I’m thinking that I should get the long wide version. I’m 5’9, 160lbs
Great first look! Looks like it packs down very small. I haven’t tried the vertical baffles as of yet. Looks like it would be more comfortable.
Thanks Dan! Yeah this thing is ridiculously small and lightweight. I do hope the baffling is more comfy than the horizontal style. Thanks for watching!
I love my Exped--this review does a great job being fair and accurate, at least according to my experience with an Exped product. Great one, Dave!
Fair and accurate is what I shoot for! Lol. Thanks bud. What else can you disclose about your experience with their pads? Let the viewers know!
@@DaveOffGrid The big thing with that pad is that the vertical baffles make it super easy to roll up and deflate. The material is also much more durable that many other brands I've used. It's not perfect but I would definitely buy another.
Ey cool that you gave Exped a shot with the vertical baffles. I remember you mentioning you're a side and stomach sleeper. The cut looks aggressive but doesn't look too bad with the shots of you lying on it. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the comfort.
Thanks Rod! 🤙 Yeah looking forward to testing it out! What's your fav pad currently?
@@DaveOffGrid I've been using Nemo Tensor Insulated Regular Wide pad for a few years now. It's been fine since I patched the leak. I'm still curious with Exped pads though. I was looking into the 3R Mummy wide pads for the bivy. The pump sack looks useful but it looks massive from your video.
@@rodoutdoors it is huge but the second I found out it was multi-purpose I was all about it. Pump sack, pack liner or compression sack that's also only 2ozs. This is what all pump sacks should be!
Good video. I’ve not tried vertical baffles but have tried the waffle style and those make me colder at night. I’m still packing the Thermarest Xlite. With the exception of a pad that would make me cold, I’m usually so tired by the time I get to camp I could sleep on quarter inch plywood.
Thanks Jerry! It seems like everyone is using R4 or higher nowadays for 3 season pads. I'm ok with my older model Nemo Tensor but prob wouldn't trust it below 35 degs. Yes, being dead tired def helps you knock out lol 🤣 I've also heard good things about the warmth of Exped's pads.
@@DaveOffGrid I’m guessing the Exped is sturdy enough with the vertical baffles that it won’t curl when you place quit straps around it?
@@tangenttrails I'm assuming it's nearly the same as other pads but 🤷♂ Again with the rating on this pad I prob won't have a need for straps since it'll only be for warmer weather trips. However for the colder pads you'd prob have to inflate them more to get the max R value anyway so I wouldn't be as worried about it curling.
The pump sack for my old Xtherm was water resistant and I did use it as a pack liner but I didn’t if it was certain I would get rain. I just trust a compactor bag more…good first look!
My feet hang off my short pad a bit but I just put my pack under my feet or head to mitigate it. My winter pad is a regular wide because I absolutely appreciate the extra real estate in colder temps. Otherwise I prefer the smaller pad, especially how it fits in my massive tent. Ruby lines her space 😂
I definitely prefer vertical baffles! Especially with the raised sides of the BARapide. It holds me in place!
Nice points! This pad def doesn't have the taller side baffles so I do wonder if I'll toss off of the thing at night. I always go long/wide! Can't stand not having enough space at the feet. Do you not move at night?! I could see a back sleeper with not much movement being fine on a reg wide and long pad.
@@DaveOffGrid I typically switch between side and back. The side baffles have been key for me!
Intelligent and thorough review thanks. Like their products generally
Thanks for watching! I'm really hoping to like this one in the field! Which of their products do you use and like?
@@DaveOffGrid full size for my truck bed and a wide backpacking one. I’m a side sleeper so I’m conscious of too narrow and too thin. R value is nice but not a deal breaker as I’m not a snow camper
