"If you learn something you don't enjoy, you probably shouldn't be learning it"
brb dropping out of school-
RIGHT! SKOOL IS FUR DUMMEEYS!!!
Creepy, I read that exactly when he said that...but TRUE.
Says a lot about schools, doesn't it?
You can't learn school (I know that's probably not what you ment)
I dropped out an haven't regretted it ounce.
(This is a joke)
I dont use tablet, not even mouse, i use a phone and my fingers, and dude, im proud of my art. I use a NES pallet.
What app did you use? I'd love to know
I do pixel art on my phome too! I use Pixly, an incredible spriting app that's completely free.
Haha same man
I use minecraft
@@DreadEthos616 me too yesterday istarted drawing pixel;-;
Pixel art is perfect for new people to get into art. All pieces are like a small logic game because of the pixel limitation. It's just fun :) And use references, study other's work to see how they did things. It's not a shame to learn and be inspired by others.
i love your logo!
@@nekokna Thanks! :)
Every art is inspired by others or by nature, if you're making a fantasy creature for example, even though it's your own creative idea it's still inspired by things like animals in one way or another, you're just taking all the inspiration and knowledge about our universe and thinking about different ways to modify it to come up with your own creation. So whoever is reading this don't hesitate to copy others(as long as you're not breaking any copyright laws), get inspired because that's how you learn art. You analyze what's already out there, try to copy it, and modify it (this is where you get creative).
Good artists borrow, great artists copy
Yeah, I'm just starting now :)
Haha, that's great that you mentioned Jazza's course, I watch his videos all the time :D
he is the reason I started my Channel :D
That "Skill Share" advertisement is one of the slickest transitions to an in-video ad I've ever seen.
There is no right way, you've just gotta hope

Man, you really have a sleek channel. Really neat and organized. I really love your tutorials. Keep up the good work man!
I really like how clear you are! Easy to understand and love the tips that show up!
Don't let topic wishes push you, Mort.
Your videos are most fun to watch if I see, that you are having fun.
And currently there is nothing, that is more fun for me in the whole youtube world.
I usually use the mouse for details. So kinda similar to you, I'll whip out a drawing tablet for big sketches or outlines, but then switch over to mouse for clean up and details
Thanks for the video. I was having a bit of a depression due to the quarantine, but your video gave me the enthusiasm to keep working on my game. Thanks

This is the best professional pixel art channel in UA-cam!
I'm actually a pixel artist and I first started with very small stuff, and got better, you did good with the tutorial and I can agree
Excellent video with so much useful info from start to end! Thank you so much for making this! :)
THANK YOU, I was stumped and me and my friend decided to try and learn a new skill, I picked pixel art she picked coding and this video really helped me out since now we are makiing a game togetherr
Very helpful Mort! I’ve been busy with school but i want to get back into pixel art and this is video is great!
One thing I definitely want to add is that just because a shape doesn't look too good before you fill it in, doesn't mean that it will look bad when you do.

THANK U MORT. Tutorial was amazing
Doing pixel art just makes me happy!
I got like three minutes into the video and was like... "okay I'm subbing". :)
This was very helpful.
Just here to say your channel rocks, thanks Mort! 😁
Спасибо тебе. Связка реально работает, буду смотреть и дальше
Finally, a pixelartist with a good microphone! Ill search you out on Instagram too! 🤓
He's spot on with the mouse vs tablet comparison
I just recently discovered you and you are amazing
Aw hey a draw with jazza crossover kinda, love to see it
A software I recommend if you are a beginner who does not know yet if they want to do pixel art is Piskel. It is so simple you won't need any tutorials on it and you can just work on things like outlines and color without needing to worry about how to get to the correct tab tools like the paint bucket. It has less tools than other software, but intentionally so that it is easy for anyone to use.
Mort my man i like ur room in your background looks sick.
hi everyone, i have a question;
when saving your pixel art how much times you increase the picture?
i am using pyxel edit and photoshop but i am unsure if i should make the art 2 times big or 4 times big?
In regards to using (or preferring) a Tablet or a Mouse... I may use both, for the same reasons you described. If I want to sketch something, a tablet may help (depending on the size of the piece, especially), because at that early stage I'm not interested in being precise, I'm interested in being fast. But when I do need to be precise, which is most of the time, I will use a mouse.
EDIT: Actually, I may even use pencil and paper to sketch things out.
Thank you so much for all of these tips!
thank you very much for watching.
screw both tablet and mouse
real men use trackpads >:(
Screw trackpads, real men use a steering wheel
Real men create their own hardware specifically for the creation of each sprite.
@@freuner-merris I'm not a real man...
I quilt my pixel art.
@@wellvos screw steering wheels, real men use a flock of scared deer tied to a paintbrush
@whattamalawn
you're confusing wimps, psycopaths and rubes with men
I have a really big problem with making the Sprites look like the same person when I have to draw them from behind, right and left. I can only do it from my head not with a given person so I always have to try 30 times until I get it right. Can you give me an advice for that?
Hi from india,
I found the best YT channel of pixelart for beginners, hopefully I will be pro like you after practicing your playlist. Thanks
This seems so fun. I think the only thing I will have trouble with is the lines
I use my laptops track pad for all my art, so using it for pixel art is like second nature to me.
thx for making this video because i want to do an undertale series but i need a new channel and things like that
I loved this video! I needed it!
For me when i am trying to make pixel art. i want to make diffrent body types but it's hard to make i fall back to a basic human.
How did you learn to draw diffrent bodys and shapes.
Epic video man!
I have created my game 'Ellen' 2D Pixel Art Horror Game using Pyxel Edit. I would love to start using aseprite too! A very nice video, I was really confused about the outlines and also the canvas size. It's much clear now.
I have a question when making a pixel art youtube animation how do i zoom my pixel animation?
I found that Krita is a very close substitute for Photoshop and it is free. I used to use GIMP, but to me it always felt way too clunky or just not as intuitive, and I know Jazza did a video on different programs and he much preferred Krita as well.
As far as what I prefer to draw with, if I'm drawing low-res pixel art, then I use the mouse, but if I'm drawing bigger stuff then I'll use the drawing pad since it feels more natural to me to just draw it and not need to be so particular in pixel placement.
Also, awesome videos man these tutorials have helped me out a lot and have been very entertaining to watch!
I love using Krita. It has a tiny learning curve but after that, it rocks.
I typically try to use the resolution and palette of the system's graphics I am trying to emulate. It works pretty well.
Hey Mort! What are your thoughts on PaintToolSai 2 for pixel art? Also thanks for sharing Aseprite with us, I never knew about it until I started watching your tutorials just recently.
This channel is so cool!
He's so beautiful!!!! thanks for this video!
For software, I use piskel. It’s free, it’s a website, and it’s incredibly easy to use. Great for lo res stuff, but doesn’t have many features
Nice video Mort! :)
your voice sounds like korg at some points and i love it
I'm just starting out but I like to use both tablet and mouse. Like you said tablet for more drawing the basic shapes and then the mouse for detail work.
NOTE: you don't need a tablet though! You can get started with just a mouse!
Thank you Mort humble guy really thank you.
I use a tablet (iPad pro with Apple Pencil and the app Pixaki) for most of my pixel art. I find the tablet is easier to be creative on. I feel overwhelmed by an empty canvas on Aseprite, but on the iPad I can more easily sketch and then fill in the details.
Hey I wanted to know if basic drawing might be important for pixel art? I am drawing on kindergarden-level and therefore dont have any fundamentals down. I am just starting to get into art with pixel art being most interesting for me. But do you think that drawing by hand would help me make fast progress or should I specifically practice pixel art?
What about a video covering the spriting techniques in sega genesis games such as shinobi and thunder force 4?
good job mate!!!!!!!i really like it
You should make a discord server! It could be a great place for your fans to meet other pixel artists and exchange information, techniques, and a great way to become more connected with your audience!
I still use Paint for pixel art. I dunno, it's just so straightforward. Though I should at least give those pixel art software a try, they seem useful.
Do you scale it to any size while saving or just leave it in 100%?
Just a heads up for those who don't have a drawing program yet, Aseprite is free if you compile it yourself!
OMG I didnt realize I was watching you on twitch, you were making a game with stencyl right? love your work dude, definitely in your game. Also my fav program is Asesprite really good. Subscribed both for twich an youtube well I followed on twitch.
Have a great day!
hi dont know if youll answer but is aseprite a one time payment or monthly
Yes MoreMortMort!
I want to know how to move the layer up or down in aseprite ?
I have mostly used to pyxel edit and I got to say I like it alot the animation tools don't feel as powerful as asprite but it's fairly simple and easy to learn and use and if you happened to be a person who is in great with picking colors or maybe shading pyxel edit suggest colors that you can use based on the last color you just used I don't know if that's a good way of explaining that but I definitely like pyxel edit but I will be getting asprite soon so I can animate and have it feel a little less clunky
What kind of books would u recommend for designing
What is the engen you use to make your game I want to start making my own game pls help me
Another software I suggest is *GIMP* . Even if it's a sort of free version of Photoshop still it can be used for pixel art but you have to download some plugins for make sprites.
Simone Starace agreed but to preview animation there's no timeline and it is actually layers. So you can use layers for pixel art. Correct me if I'm wrong. I dunno if there is a way to add timeline.
@@vaishnav_mallya You're 100% right. GIMP only works with layers which makes a bit annoying always doing copy and paste of the same layer and also you need a plugin to export the sprite correctly.
@Eleanoress Interesting. Thank you
And also fire alpaca is good too, did my first pixel animation on it before I bought aesprite.
I use piskel, it is easy, free, supports layers and animation and (thought I don't know if that is a good thing) runs in your browser.
Awesome video, just wanted to let you know there’s a typo at 4:22👍. Or is that intentional?
I do pixel art on my phone... Is it bad or not? I also have a PC but i don't do pixel Art on my PC
Is Clip Studio Paint good for pixel art?
very inspire. Thank you so much.
Which application do you use with your tablet?
whats your opinion on hexels as software? did you try it?
I personally like Pyxel Edit the most because I think it's very easy to animate
what are you using @4:46 to draw?
I have been using MS Paint since Windows 98, and I continue to use it even on Windows 8 and Windows 10. I use my own letters and some of the default colors, but mostly like to experiment with new ideas and colors.
Some of my characters I've drawn originated in Paint, then I drew them on paper. OI wonder how many people know that?
Sometimes, I make use of programs such as the latest version of Game Maker, the same one that people made certain Nintendo Switch games with, but since I don't know ho to program, I just use it's various tools to edit my own original character sprites and stuff.
As far as outlines, I've been wanting to not use black, but a color more similar to the outermost color.
I look back at my old sprites and some recolonize and I'm like "wow, these are so old. What was I doing?"
is anyone aware if there are any decent pixel art apps for ipad because all i can find is reskins of the same crappy app
nice vid fam keep goin
I made a cloud 8-bit landscape in paint tool sai 2, published it and I tried posting it on Twitter; but the quality is bad, it's tad blurry its a 250x200 as canvas size.
Great video as always :)
thank you very much for watching.
Is it possible to Rig with bones a Pixel Art Character for animations? If yes, how it works? :)
Best video ever.
Subscribed.
Also, i use GraphicsGale.
I basically only use the mouse, except when I'm sketching a large image (then finish its details with the mouse again)
Hello Mort,Iam new to your channel but Iam confused which video to begin with step by step tell me, please. Please mark your video by arrangement numbers.
Thanks for the information!
Thanks for Sharing this !!!
I use pixaki on my iPad with Ipencil, starting to use aseprite which is really fun just getting use to layout and learning by your video and my Udemy course by Marco Vale. Downfall with pixaki that you can’t name layers and recover stuff that I’ve accidentally deleted 😭. Trying to get studying done but sometimes impossible juggling adult life as a parent of two boys and a husband 😂. I also dabble I guess is the right word with blender, affinity and substance painter but will have to re-read and re-learn a lot.
how do you feel about marmoset hexels 3?
What is the brush size?
Please help me with the shading and texture.
We all know that the best art tool for pixel art is paper and rock
I'm staring my pixel art because I think it is more convenient than realism (trad). I hope this style will work out for me.
3:06 Ngl on a Scale of just Pixels you don't need a Tablet. A Mouse may even be more percise.
Furthermore, some of the key features of a tablet like Pressure Levels most of the Time are pretty much useless in Pixel Art.
Though when you do HD digital art, a Tablet is necissary imo.
I prefer a mouse because it is have more options like right middle click
how do you insert the font?
can you make a video on how to make a Pokemon trainer sprite ?
yep..still best channel ever : D
