Kinda eminds me of an article "Why Monet Never Used Black, & Why You Shouldn't Either" Basically, why use just the darker shade of a color when you can use color theory (the illusion that simple hue contrasts could bring) to do the job, and even better.
Watching you fix the animation at the end reminded me of some of the nintendo transformations in games where the character would cycle between frames for a moment before transitioning to the next frame then cycling between that one to lengthen the animation time of the transformation and make it look more intense, I wonder if that trick would look good in this animation too.
the reason I love pixel art is that you have to use your imagination and work with a limited amount of supplies. when drawing you can basically just. "draw" but here you have to think more strategically
When you said your first pixel art was in 2015 I said to myself, "Damn... I'm old." I started copying old tamagotchis and redrawing GBC Pokemon art in the late 90s and then started editing my own art over the style of the DBZ Legacy of Goku sprites. I haven't done pixel art in a while but alway still enjoy the process.
10:22 😱 I love the idea of having a single idea to revisit every year, like drawing a new Luke Skywalker. 2019's looked really good, can't wait to see what this year's will look like! I need to start waking up earlier to catch these videos at a better time 😅
Haha thanks dude! Yeah I really liked the stylistic departure with the 2019 Skywalker, and I'm not sure what I'll do yet for the 2020 version - maybe an animation using that styling..? 🤔
This video made me go back to my favorite art and now i'm applying new approaches and slightly more advanced techniques. That's a lot of fun and lets me see how my vision changed with time. :)
this guy really helps teach and give tips about pixel art, and his lessons help for beginners and experts! this particular video formed my style of bright yet soft colours. :)
I've been doing pixel art since around 2005, and 15 years later you're still far beyond my ability after just 5 years. Inspirational, but also a little demoralising. :V Well done!
This channel has helped my pixel art so much! All the tips and inspiration is a good way to show people how you do your pixel art and how they can improve theirs as much as they can.
There is something Blankaesque in this Hulk. I like it. Probably the yellow eyes and tint give that feeling. You progressed a lot in five years. Nice vid.
Amazing work! Just wanted to say that I´ve been watching your videos for the past week, and absolutely love them. Thank you for the hard work, beautiful pixel art, great editing and comprehensive tutorials!!
I can’t remember the video. But I watched a video about the sprites used in Metroid and how they created a smoother animation by having frames in between full pixel jumps. I think this could help with his idle breathing
I've recently gotten back into pixel art. I haven't made any since like 2 years ago, and even then it was only a hobby. As it still is. Just im having fun with it, is all. Which is probably why i got this video in my recommendeds actually. Since i downloaded a pixel art app on my phone.
I'm doing pixel art for over a month now, and i Just can't create bodys, i only know how to do faces and is not even that better, i'm getting really frustrated
try making basic shapes and them erasing(molding) them into complex shapes. (kinda like sculpting) like: triangle for torso, circles and triangles for head, etc.
Keep practicing! Study other people's works, how they do their own things and study some anatomy and drawing fundamentals because that too helps a lot, even if it isn't 100% necessary for pixel art. That being said, I am artist (of the kind that draws) so actual pixel artists will have better advice. But sticking to it is very, very important.
Being very truthful, I believe this additional exaggerated frame in the transformation process actually threw away some of the smoothness of the animation, the version without it was a lot smoother to look at (in my opinion); still, amazing artwork done there, mainly from someone doing this for the first time. Your pixel art skills are amusing.
As always, great work, Brandon! Very significant progress you've made! We hope to follow your steps 🙂 P.S. I love how that little fella turns into a big green Brezhnev 😧Hehe
The animation actually was very helpful since we don't really get to see your animation process
Thanks! I've been meaning to share some animation timelapse and this felt like a really useful one to show :D
@@BJGpixel but in my opinion the t-shirt has gone too quickly
edit: but animation is ok :)
I like ur name.

Seeing that old art and looking at him now really shows the progress of how he improves over the year. Amazing art my man!
Over 5 years yes
Other pixel artists: i make pixel art
Brandon: I make pictures out of tiny squres
Yes
Isn't pixel art making pictures of pretty big squares?
@@theaddictofgaming9174 yeah, regular art is more like art out of tiny squares
@@osc-omb47896what about vector art?

That Nano hulk caught me so off guard 😂
The animation actually helped a lot with my learning
I like the way you've gone for blue hues for shadows rather than just darker versions of the main colour. I shall keep that in mind.
He made a whole video about hue shifting if you want more depth, check it out!
i do a darker version, but i should add a hue change (or something) to the shadow
Color theory guys. It helps

That was amazing! Expressionism is piece of cake next to doing and animating a 28 pixel art!
This is the definition of Minecraft youtubers saying: "I did a little work off-camera", and then EVERYTHING looks different. (But still good)

the Nano was fantastic! I was hoping but didn't expect. Thanks for that.
Awesome work as always, looking forward to the next one :)

The way you made the new shading really tought me a lot since I usually do shading like the 2015 pixel art.

Those 2019 Luke pieces look awesome! Getting a LucasArts point and click vibe. Love the simple eyes and nose.
OMG this type of pixel art makes my eyes tears, but tears of joy, nice job bro.
Weirdly enough, I also started pixel art by taking heavy reference from the nes mega man sprite
I love your videos. I am trying to do Pixel art myself so your input helps a lot.
Hulk's face kinda remindes me of the pixel art on the back of some of the Scott Pilgrim books

would be cool a little platformer game with Hulk... transforming when he got angry for some reason :P
I liked to see your progression through the years with Luke Skywalker art, but I think your style in 2019 was most mature and I prefer this version
