I worked out twice a day for 5 months (and this is what happened!!)

  • YES, I have been working twice a day for 5 months, but not for the reason you might be thinking. I was in no way unhappy with my weight or wanted to get transform my body into this super ripped beach body.
😱 So why would anyone decide to work out twice a day if it wasn't for weight-loss or fitness goals?
That's exactly what this video is about. I would like for us to get away from assuming that we know why a person works out (or doesn't work out) the way they do - because we don't.
I hope you are enjoying this little peak into my newly adapted home workout routine and the thought behind this video.
👉 What movements feel good for you right now? Let me know in the comments.

Have you ever felt like you have to (or shouldn't) work out the way you do?

I started working out almost every day in June. This really changed it for me. Before I tried to do 2-3 workouts per week, but often failed with this. I often thought “well, I’ll do it tomorrow” and then I came up with another excuse for myself.
For anyone struggling with this too, I highly recommend to commit to work out every day. Make it easy to put on your workout clothes, and just start running, do body weight exercises, or lift some weights. It is much easier if it is a habit, like brushing teeth, in contrast to a scheduled session. If you do it every day, it gets much more usual, it becomes a normal part of your day. And this way, even if you skip a day for some reason occasionally, it is not a huge loss. You just lose your streak 😅
What also helped me is doing the workout in the morning instead of in the evening. The later the day gets, the more things could come in between. Or you could just feel too tired in the simplest case. In the morning however you have all the energy. And there is still all day ahead of you for all the obligations you have for that day. When you have done it, you can already tick off the first todo for that day: the workout. Plus moving your body after getting up is the best thing to really wake up, it just feels great 😅👌

Amazing comment- thank you so much for sharing!! Couldn't agree more. Doing 1 workout a day is waaay easier than doing 1 a week 💪🙂

Just started with a leg fracture so I gonna have to do some research to find some sort of sitting down workout. As I like to get out and about and do landscape photography. My injury is a product of a shoot gone wrong. Thanks

I totally get this, especially since lockdown, I felt like I need at least 2 sessions in the day, one is normally a HIIT and the other is a walk, yoga or stretching session - or oven cleaning the house, hoovering & scrubbing the bathroom definitely gets the body moving! Lol 😆

Yass, feels like covid doubled everyone's need for exercise 😊 love the term "hovering around the house" so true!! 😅

Absolutely right. If in a work from home scenario, food intake doesn't stop. Even to process 1500 calories the body runs out of ideas. HIIT does emphasize recovery as per Tabatha wave but in these times it is at rest physically. Maybe the intensity can vary but movement is key.

Loved the video Nellie and totally agree with your sentiments. I am 62 and for years have worked out twice a day. Movement was important because I commuted several hours per day and then worked in an office at a computer. Now I am retired it is to keep my body supple and maintain muscle conditioning and mobility. My morning workout is a 5km walk with my dog, That sets up my day. My second workout alternates between karate classes and bodyweight/kettlebell HITT routines. On the weekends I hike. In spite of the usual age related aches and pains I feel I am in pretty good shape. Thank you for sharing.

Movement.... for all my younger years movement meant running every day to train and running half marathons with my running buddies. Then movement became riding my mountain bike every day and competing on the weekends. But as life got more complicated and responsibilities increased, movement was limited to riding outings on the weekends. And as more years went by, even the weekend rides went by the wayside. But at the beginning of June I decide to change all that... not only I have changed my eating habits but I have started to move again. Movement means riding in the morning and walking in the afternoon. Even though some days I feel beat up, due to so many years of inactivity, I have rediscovered the pleasure of movement. The ability movement gives you enjoy all aspects of life!

You make a lot of great points in the video! As I've been working from home in the past few months, I feel like I move around a lot less. I've been trying to work out at least once a day whenever possible. It definitely has helped me as I have been able to maintain my body weight the entire time. Everyone's body is unique and only the individual can best understand his or her own body. Great video!

Great video Nellie, totally agree with getting in body movement everyday, working from home (Covid-19) I take a midday walk for about an hour every day and it definitely clears or resets the mind. Also find I sleep better. At the end of your video I was waiting for Greg to say "Lets Go" 🤣🤣👍👍

Working out twice a day poped out on my mind earlier today. I am a really active person, but my routine requires me to sit down and study those long long hours. What happens is that sometimes I get off my routine and have trouble to get back into it. I was thinking, maybe if I workout twice a day i will have little less trouble to jump start when I get stuck. For exemple, I've just spent the last week sleeping bad, waking up late, having trouble to get my things done and not exercising. Yesterday I went for a bike ride and got very tired. The next day: I'm a whole different person. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Thank you! i need this. i didnt realize how much i wasn't moving since the pandemic and i just cannot sleep. It is depressing adn lowering my energy to exercise even more. i like the break up though which is better for me i think too.

Thank you so much for this video. I feel my experience is validated as an overweight person who does workout a lot but I probably don't do enough cardio but I am very consistent with resistance training and trying to condition my body while trying to lose weight because I rather be a bit chubby than have loose skin. But I am also trying to add more cardio now and a gym is offering a free trial workout classes and I am debating whether or not I should do one class in the morning and one in the evening and the Google responses are very varied on the two a day training method. I want to try it but what was keeping me back is the fear of losing muscle with too much cardio.

I have been walking and weight lifting all in the morning but I hit an afternoon slump and my recovery is slower now that I'm older. I just decided to do a walking meditation in the morning 45-60 min so about 2 mi and weight lifting in the evening. I hope it has similar benefits to your routine. Wish me luck?

Remember the original Insanity programme well, probably the best period of my life for personal fitness. Your observations Nellie are spot on and given the changes to many of our lives and routines at the moment, maintaining a process to keep the body and the mind active are important at this time. Good discussion today

Started lockdown really well, an hour on the cross trainer in the morning, then the 20 minute walk to the supermarket to collect groceries and carry them back, finally an hours dog walk in the afternoon, all this keeping me nice and active. Then I wrecked my hip and thigh muscles after slipping down the last 4 stairs on the staircase and have struggled to move for the last 3 months, nothing docs can do just have let muscles heal, only in the last two weeks have I been able to start gentle exercise. Doc states that muscles take longer to repair than a broken bone. Net result not very fit at all.

Are you crazy? Yes. But aren’t we all 😜. During the week before I start my remote work, I usually go out for a 15 minute walk. I notice on days that I don’t do that, I’m more stressed and not as energetic. I also have a workout program that I do throughout the week. I do feel better when I get those 30-40 min workouts in. Although I will admit that I think I have put on a COVID 15. 😳🤷🏻‍♂️.

Lovely video and good suggestions but why are you keep on moving your arms frantically while talking? Totally agree with everything but in this fast food live we (human being) want to keep on moving/achieve/gain/run etc while sometimes this sudden brake make us to meditate and breath and slow down and reconsider choices. Some people cannot stop for a moment and taste that slow living. Balance is the key in a happiness living. 😊

Eating to much or too little is scientifically easy is my understanding - fatter people have more efficient pathways to store fat from calories which accumulates as pre-diabetic fat and drops their blood sugar making them hungry again - skinny people are more resistant to storing fat which leaves their blood sugar higher for longer making them less prone to more eating but far more prone to full blown diabeties.
