- After being inducted into the California Music Hall of Fame on April 14, 2024, the remaining four Cowsill Siblings sing their signature song, The Rain, The Park, and Other Things". The song was penned by Artie Kornfeld, one of the founders of 1968's Woodstock Music Festival. This is also nicknamed "The Flower Girl Song".
This is (L-R) John Cowsill, Susan (Cowsill) Broussard, Paul Cowsill, and Bob Cowsill.
I'm 69 and this puts a huge smile on my face. It was the sounds of my life.
69 puts a smile on my face too
Ditto 69
I am 72. I also smile at this song.
Kids today may own the future, but we have the past and it was wonderful.
72 here. I remember them on Ed Sullivan show with their mom. I always thought it was odd to have your mother in your band, but they made it happen.😊
Almost 66 and I still ❤ the Cowsills! I’m so glad I was born at the right time! Nothing today compares to these songs / music 🎤🎼🎸🎹!
Exactly! I just turned 67 last month and this and the amazing music we got to grow up with in 1960'sand 70's can/will
never be matched sadly!!! Wouldn't trade being born in 1957 for anything!! ✌️
Exactly! I'm 73 and this music is timeless !!!
Look for the Lemon Twigs. Esp the record they just released (May 2024). I guarantee it will give you good nostalgic vibes while listening to a contemporary band. I kid you not! (Also a 'sills fan from way back, had the usual kid crush on Susan when I was a boy and she was a slightly older girl.)
I'm 66 as well and I could not agree more. I am so glad I was born at the right time!!!!
@@lisadc4681 Me too!!
As much as any song this one defines the 60’s. It takes me back.
Susan just gets prettier and prettier and her voice gets better and better
.
Glad to see John back!
Mike Love fired him
@@kingofallwhitesHe fires everybody
I’m 72 years old and this song brings back great memories from my high school years. Where’s the time gone? Thanks for posting.
The Cowsills won me $79. About 20 years ago I was at work and the local radio station was running a name-that-song kind of contest. When the DJ played "The Rain, the Park, and Other Things" the calls started coming in. Most people were guessing "The Flower Girl." I knew the right title, called in, and won the money. I think it was $79 because that was the station's number on the radio dial. I've been a fan since they started performing back in the 60s. Love their harmonies.
I'm 67 and I had such a crush on Susan when I was a kid! Considering who is in the R&R Hall of Fame, the Cowsills absolutely belong in there as well!
ditto & they should have one last hurrah at glastonbury!!!
How frickin cool was that, 4 people singing their HEARTS OUT for us, THANK YOU it was just BEAUTIFUL😂
Suddenly, transported back to first kisses and falling in teenage love. Petting under the bleachers. Cowsills on the system during breaks. Ah, the innocence.
Today the California Music Hall of Fame; maybe soon the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
For my late mom who passed away last October. She wore flowers in her hair it was her peculiar signature look even into her 80s. Love you mom. Love the Cowsills.
Am so happy they received this recognition.
@Juanita6....Hippie Girls live forever!
Susan is so darn cute. They all look very happy performing together.
I was in 7th grade and a drummer in junior high band. There was a girl that played clarinet that was just cute as hell who loved this song…
I had my first pubescent crush. Whenever I hear this song I’m transported back to those memories and today wonder what became of her life. 😉
John brought this sucker to life and freed up Susan to do her thing. Lotta talent right there.
This still makes me happy. Cowsills harmony even better with age. Mom, Bill & Barry are smiling upon their family! 💐💚☮️
More, more, more ... so great to see John with Bob, Paul, and Susan - at last ... BIG smile
It made me SO happy to see John with them, too! ❤
John is such a great singer and drummer. He was the touring drummer for the beach boys and sang lead on a couple of songs as well as background vocals.
This is what we all wanted to see -- the four of them together. And don't they sound amazing!
I’m 73 and knew the Cowsills when Susan was a young girl in the band with her Mom, Barbara, and John while being a little older was still young himself. An incredibly talented family who amazingly still have beautiful voices. Still remember Bill and Bob playing Beatles songs over the phone to my brother, Arthur and as always nailed it. Also went to school at same time and school as Bill, Bob, Dick and Paul (“ the schoolhouse on the hill “ ).
They are the nicest people, too. They usually come out to meet fans after their concerts.❤️
Add John Cowsill to their concerts and they will be SELL outs!!!
The Cowsills were a force to be reckoned with, I remember the days like it were yesterday, they had their own unique style and nobody else was like them, like many great bands back then they were original, Man oh man what a time to live and the music back then was OUTSTANDING!
Brings back wonderful memories to us baby boomers,
We did have the best music imo.
I read that siblings can harmonize in a special way.
Blood harmony
Im 65 and this brings back some great memories of my childhood and family that have past. Kind of sad seeing only 4 remain with us. They still sound great.
I'm also 65. My 6 years older brother bought this single at the time it was a hit. I listened to it over and over and always loved it. My big brother somehow instilled an intense love of pop and rock music into me that lives on today. Sadly he died before we could make it out of the 70's. Enjoy those you love while you have them. Someday the tunes will make you sad but its so much easier when the sadness is accompanied with wonderful memories. ♥
Susan will forever be my flower girl.❤
I’m 68 and couldn’t ask for anything better 💕❤️
It’s great to see John up there with you singing harmonies!
This makes me feel 11 years old all over again.I may have been pretty young, but, I always had my transitor radio on, listening to all this great music like this. Almost 60 years later there is still demand for this music, not like the forgettable, throwaway derivative stuff on Spotify. We were listening to the Cowsills, Mamas & Papas, CCR, Beatles, Grass Roots, Janis, Jimi, Jim, Byrds, Turtles, Stones, Elvis, Temps, Four Tops, Smokey, Diana, Etc etc.
Don’t forget, Paul Revere and the Raiders
AMAZING!!! They sound just as great as they did in 1968!!!!! (IN THE ORIGINAL KEY OF B MAJOR!!)
WOW!!!!! Does anyone realize that these four surviving performers of this band first recorded this song almost 57 years ago???
John was 12, Susan was 8, Paul was 16, and Bob was 18!!!
Today, up on that stage in this video, John is 68, Susan turned 65 a few days ago, Paul is 72, and Bob is 74!!!!
Also the ‘writer’, arranger, and producer of this great song above was Arte Kornfeld who is 81 or 82 now.
Great to see John join them. What a song !!
They still sound great. Far better than many aging performers.
I'll soon be 70. This song is one of the greatest! Sooo many memories 😢
Missing Barry and the Incredible Billy Cowsill.
Agreed. Bill was great, and Barry was very special, too.
We had a lot of fun spending time with Barry when he lived on the Monterey peninsula.
Great to see John there singing!
I wanted to play drums like John Cowsill and now at age 58 I’m finally getting to take lessons! I’m having a blast! Thanks John for the inspiration!❤❤❤❤
Good for you! 😀
Nice to see u with your family John❤
It's about time they were inducted! What an amazing family! I have fond memories of when my sisters and I would hang out with them - (primarily, Susan, John and Barry at 1837 La Mesa Dr..) We lived close by on Marguerita Ave. Wish you'd come to Palm Springs area, I'd love to see you. Hey John, I LOVE The Action Skulls! :-D CHEERS to memories, keep rockin' ya all!
Oh wow … you guys need to stay together … that kind of harmony cannot be replicated … all 4 … an embarrassment of riches ❤❤❤❤❤
I love seeing and hearing John! I wish he would join them more often.
Sounds much fuller with four. It was mind blowing when there were all six.
Couple years back they were all on stage and it sounded awesome
They still sound fantastic. Those harmonies!
Knowing the story behind it all, what could’ve been, what actually was. Those smiles are real. They overcame it all. That’s victory!
We love the Cowsills❤!!
Really great to see John joining in with the gang ….. “awesome actually “ 😎👍
Still on their game...Great!
After all these years, and all of the performances... They still harmonize wonderfully...
He's no longer playing with the Beach Boys travel group so he was available. Great that they are all back performing together.
Maybe he'll do a few Happy together shows 🎉❤🎉
Is John permanently back with the group (now that he's no longer playing the drums for the Beach Boys)?
@F1478963 I'm afraid not. He's enjoying being a free agent after over 20 years of tour buses, airplanes, etc. He and is wife, Vicki Peterson (The Bangles), are performing duets, he does occasional guest spots with the likes of The Smithereens, Peter Noone's Herman's Hermits, etc. He & Vicki are also working on a CD of brothers Billy's & Barry's wonderful original songs.
I listen to this over and over again. They are so talented. So happy to hear and see John up there.
I m sooo glad someone videoed this! Awesome to have John there to add his harmony with Susan ,Paul and Bob. Congratulations on your induction into The California Music Hall of Fame... soo talented! Its about time!
Oh my God, those harmonies STILL give me chills. Still loving this band after all these years.
Nice to see all FOUR on stage again!! They were and still are FANTASTIC!!! Thanks for posting this incredible gem!
Great to see John with them for this ! I hope to see him more ..
Can't get enough of this era
I'll be sixty-four very soon and The Cowsills have been a part of the tapestry of my life. A soundtrack from an early chapter that is still great to catch again from time to time.
Such an incredibly talented family. Always loved the Cowsills and still do!!
So GREAT to see all 4 up there! Just fantastic!
How special all 4 together ❤️ wow 🎉🎉🎉🎉
This is from The Cowsills’ induction into the California Music Hall Of Fame on April 14, 2024. Congratulations to The Cowsills! They were amazing!!! Thank you for posting this video!
See them at a Happy Together Tour show this June through August in a town near you.
I'm 68, I love this song from the time I first heard it up to today.
Wow! Even with only one guitar accompaniment they sound fantastic. What a blessing to the music world. Thanks, Cowsills, and keep on keepin' on!
Grew up with there music I'm 70 and can listen to them all the time
Beautiful harmonies 😎
I'm 66 ...always loved that song!!!!!
a lot of nostalgia here...i'm impressed
I saw them perform in 1970 in San Antonio Texas, went to a meet and greet at a department store and they all signed an album for me. They still sound awesome, thanks for posting this!
It's nice to see John back singing with them.
Thank you for posting…Love the Cowsills..especially John
Susan you’re awesome ❤
Never gets old.
I am so happy to see them perform with just one strumming guitar. Amazing vocal performance on an amazing song.
Their harmonies are as good as The Bee Gees...
Listening to these talented siblings gives me the same feeling I had when the song came out! I’m 63, it feels like yesterday I was singing along to the record! Thank you for this wonderful video! I love the Cowsills! Their music defines one of the greatest times in America! ❤
WOW, I had no idea that 4 was still around. I usually only see 3. Totally way cool. Thank you for posting and making this clip available. ❤️💜💚🧡💙😊
They sound great all these years later. I've been watching Cowsills videos lately. Most people comment on one or another of the siblings but not too many compliment oldest (living) brother Bob. He seems like such a steady, calm presence... and he has a beautiful voice (he'll be 75 this year!). They are one of the most talented groups/singers ever. I remember this song from my youth but don't recall hearing their name before last year. So glad I discovered them!! 🎶
Love this video for so many reasons and love seeing my old friend John LIVING the subsequent hit song by The Cowsills: "Hair." DEFINITELY a great head of hair, irrespective of his age!!
"Darlin', give me a head with hair, long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming, steaming, flaxen, waxen
Give me down to there hair, shoulder length or longer hair
Here, baby, there, momma, everywhere, daddy, daddy
Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it, long as I can grow it, my hair"
Wonderful!! They overcame so much in life. They never lost their talent.
Maybe the music was their saving grace.
A forever song, from better days...
The day the Cowsill's debuted on the Ed Sullivan show was October 29, 1967. My birthday.
Still great....Have this on a 45.....At 72,these guys always bring a smile to my face.....Great.............Ralph Onofrio
Same here..born 1951, I bought this 45 on MGM records, 1967, love the harmony….😍
I loved that group when I was in middle school! I was so sad to learn that Barry (my favorite lol) died in hurricane Katrina. They still sound great! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for this. I was very young when this was on the AM dial and television, around 10-11 years old. I Appreciate it very much.
They still sound terrific together. A great pop sound.
I worked with Paul very nice guy gave me a Cowsill's CD!
If any band had a career out of one song it has to be them!!
Great integrity with this band. They were chosen to be the Partidge Family for the TV show....But when told that their mom would not be part of it and that Shirley Jones would be doing the mom role, they said no thanks. They stood by each other, voices united. Integrity intact.
Wow, what talent, a guitar & 4 voices that just melt harmony, beutiful guys and a classic song
Susan is the true flower girl!!! Great 🎵 song .The Cowsills
That 3rd voice sure fills in the background vocals. They should take John along more often.
I love this song it is very great❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂
Sad that Billy is no longer with us
Yes. And Barry.
@@tombeyerlein3813and Richard.
My husband and I saw them a few years ago on a 60s music tour.... loved them! Their story is amazing. Reminds me of listening to am radio when I was a kid in the 70s driving in the car with my Mom and brother on errands... summertime farm markets, heading to grandparents house.... waiting for Dad to come from work music in the house....love the cowsills!
They are still touring with the Turtles' Happy Together Tour every summer. This summer, it includes The Association, Joey Molland from Badfinger, Jay & The Americans, The Vogues, plus The Cowsills.
I absolutely love when the four of them perform together. I wish it happened much more often!
Unforgettable! I'm 57 and I've loved this song. Such harmony! I love it ❤ ! Thank you!
Sophomore year math. Cold (near zero) and icy outside, yet my buddy Merle was singing this real low and it was warm and sunny in Maine. The magic of good music.
I’ll be 63 and I got my tickets to see them at the Washington State Fair
Suddenly I'm young again......Thank you Cowsills !!!!
Remember them so well. I went to junior college with Billy back in 1967 in Providence. The family was from Newport RI.
It would be GREAT if John rejoined them permanently.
@craig. As I listened to this, I could hear John's drum fills in my head.
I hear he’s been with the smithereens since leaving the beachboys
@@donaldgossett1736 If true very sad news.
@donaldgossett1736 Not full-time. John is enjoying being a "free agent." He's played with Peter Noone & Herman's Hermits, Smithereens, a couple tribute & charity shows, and has performed duets here and there with his wife (Bangles) Vicki Peterson. They've been working on the songs of Billy and Barry Cowsill to keep the brothers' music alive.
John along with his wife Vicki Peterson (The Bangles), along with former child star Bill Mumy.....Lost in Space among other shows, have their own project/group going called Action Skulls. You can never say never but at this point I don't see him becoming a "member" again. An occasional appearance, yes.
