I really liked this breakdown. I’m trying to learn Unreal Engine and so many tutorials are overwhelming with all of their incredibly specific instructions. While that is helpful and necessary, it’s cool to also see a sped up breakdown that could be just as helpful for someone beyond that extreme beginner stage. Hope you will do more of these or go more heavily on specific aspects such as lighting.
Thanks, that's great to hear. It can quickly get overwhelming with a lot of information when you fist get started with Unreal. The truth is that you only need to learn a small part of Unreal to be able to start creating great stuff. I'll make more videos where I will go more in to detail on various aspects, like for example lighting, but also dive on to general filmmaking and filmmaking language.
@@PhillipBerg that 80/20 mentality seems to be a big part of understanding how to get going with Unreal. Would love to see a breakdown of which parts you think are part of the small part you’re talking about to get moving.
Thanks for the video, wish someone would share a full length video showing these exact steps for those who are tryin to get into animation. I wish i could do stuff like this
Instead of exporting the animation FBX and re-importing, could you use the automatic retargeting tool and just retarget the base mannequin animation onto the metahuman?
This video really helps a lot! The other videos I was finding were removing the control rig on the body and were leaving the facial controls which was a pain for making adjustments on the fly. A couple questions on this... For the fur on the werewolf is that a groom, cards or geo? I'm interested in this since one of the things I was looking at was characters with Blenders grooming or XGen for a dog and another shot with a fox. Since both characters have grooms I was curious if you might be able to do a quick video on this. Second, I'm guessing from the way that you're animating that it appears the layered approach is similar to animation layers in Maya where you can have an override or make the layer additive? Thanks again and gained a sub.
I'm happy that this video is of benefit to you, I have just launched a new tutorial going in to animating Metahumans. The werewolf is not fur, it is Geo cards. I will go more in to groom in later videos. Yes, the new layers in Unreal is similar to the layers you find in Maya, which is great and makes for a efficient workflow.

at the 4:00 minute mark when you start to move the character along the alleyway with the transform tool, how are you doing this? my characters animation keeps breaking everytime i move them this way. Would love some help from anyone if possible!
How are you moving the character ? Are you using the main control on the rig or are you moving the full character from the character transform ? In this case I am moving the full character on the main character transform and not with the rig
@@PhillipBerg i ended up figuring it out, i just selected the Body layer and when pressing s it created the transform layer and when i moved and keyframed it from that point it worked, before i was clicking the plus sign on body layer and adding transform that way which brought errors, not sure what fixed it but hey! Thank you for the video and getting back to me so quickly Phillip!
