I requested this last time HELMET came to Gainesville and Paige laughed at me. But you know what? I'm totally gonna request it again when they come back in October!
You got Saturday Morning's Greatest Hits? Introduced me to the cover and I'm 55, so should have known the original but sadly didn't. Bitchin tune, no doubt.
Helmet came to my town gainesville fl. and page was taking requests, all he asked is that you know the correct name of the song, and that you request one they hadnt played yet. I yelled out GIGANTOR and he laughed. lol. He did play tic for me though.
wow. ive been a helmet fan since 02 and i just read about this song on wikipedia for the 1st time, cool song from when this band where still kicking ass, new helmet is just not the same still this is further proof that music in the 90s was the shit
As far as I can tell, the album this cover is from - Saturday Morning: Cartoons' Greatest Hits - had an hour-long special with Drew. Presumedably, this is part of that special.
I always thought the kid in Gigantor with the remote control was the same kid as Dondi. I was very young in those days. You can tell how old I am now if I know who Dondi was.
This cover is actually a great Helmet song. Sat Morn Cartoons Greatest Hits was a cool record. Shoulda got the Dickies, they already did Gigntor and Bannana Splits...
it's different because page is 58 now, he's not 30 anymore and he had to start singing differently and everything.. besides john apparently didn't get along with page much in the end so 90s helmet is officially dead
If we want to get technical, Helmet broke up as a band in the late 90s and when Page was reforming it in 2004 or 2005 he asked both the original members and they both declined
I´m with You.. I beast of a Drummer with the Snare everbody talks about.. But the actual Drummer Kyle Stevenson is ok! Saw them a few times live. For me the exit of Fyfe Ewing from Therapy was much harder for the Band!
+TheBoondoggler Unique stuff indeed, great lead guitar, never heard before, nothing like it. and believe me, i've listened to loads of music. (everything from death metal, jazz, country, ancient tribal music, classical) Helmet were a very original, unique band. Very atypical and overlooked, if you ask me.
+Noble the Heathen I am a Black American Woman that loves Hardcore Rock and Metal Music too I know that many people are Black people don't listen to or know the band Helmet. I know that the music industry critics caters to the Mainstream Bands who have commercial success . Helmet has had commercial success with Mean Time and Betty but the music industry critics started to go Go more image of band and not substance of the music from band. Helmet Never like most Mainstream Bands do never Auto Tunes a damn thing or use Pro Tools to make their music sound good or legitimate either. Hello never looked the part of a rock band either. Helmet Never wore make up had little to no tattoos, never had long hair, never wore rip jeans , never any jewelry either. Helmet is still the best band of all modern day times to me Page Hamilton is the king of all riffs to me he is a riff master. The Music Industry Critics are sellouts for catering to the Mainstream Bands who do suck to me. I don't know if you know that Helmet is going to have a new album out this year. I don't know what the name of the album will be or the release date of the new album is because Helmet's website don't tell you that information only to tell you about the fact that the band will have a new album out this year.
I have no linear explanation for that. But, I think Page was basically focusing on doing his own thing, rather than becoming part of some kind of Metal or rock movement. He had influences from everything from Black Sabbath to Frank Sinatra to Glenn Branca to Sonic Youth. Mostly metal and punk stuff though. Dimebag Darrell (of Pantera) was actually a big fan of Helmet.
@Nakor420ish I checked. I do, in fact, have it. Back then I never knew who the artists were. I was surprised to see names like Matthew Sweet, Sublime, and the Ramones.
i always wanted this piece to keep going a while longer, right when the drums starts hitting some bell they fade it out... booo wonder if there are any live versions of this somewhere
I grew up with Gigantor, Speed Racer, and Kimba but I also remember Clutch Cargo . They don't make cartoons like that anymore I tell . I remember the Dickies doing the Gigantor plus Banana Splits theme also but as for helmet there a great band but I forgot they did a cover of this song too . I think they do a great job
Helmet is badass. They can write songs about being pissed, they can write songs about dogs, they can even write songs about Gigantor! most bands are hung up on one topic like love or something lol
@bestwattman get audacity, switch recording to the mixer and record. you can't get the vid, but u can export as wav n mp3 so u can put it on ur ipod or what have you
@elpuma817 He played G&L's in his Band of Susan days before procuring the magenta ESP Horizon. He also recorded Biscuits for Smut with a G&L and uses it in the video.
although, I know this doesn't have anything to do with megaman(to my knowledge), it sure looks like megaman artwork, anyone know if the person who created this artwork, was the same who did the artwork for the megaman games? from back in the day, like the megaman1 thru X3 games, nes/snes era? loved those games, and still do, but the NES ones were hard as shit, not being able to save and all.. Oh yeah and this song is so fucking sick!
oh ok cool.. well I really only played the megaman X games a lot on snes , which you could save on easily with the snes.. At the the time I played megaman for nes, I was really young like 4 yrs old.. then I began using the NES emulators, playing the roms when they were released later on, like 20 years later? maybe? that's what I use now so I could use save states and just save anytime I want using the states, the snes MMX games were much easier to me growing up.. when I was real young though I didn't know I could\ save the game lol.
***** In the 90s when alternative rock was at it's highest , maybe 95-96, all these alternative 80s and 90s bands got together and did songs of all the cartoons that weren't so popular, or "Alternative" cartoons. There were a lot of them. The CD was awesome. If you look at the beginning of this video it says the name of the album. I had it. It was awesome, even the bands I didn't like did a great job. DIG was another band on there that did Fat Albert, my favorite one on the whole CD.
Hootyhaha Hootyhaha Dunno about Gigantor not being popular, it's just old.I'm 49 and I remember watching it as a little tacker. Also used to love Birdman and Space Ghost. At least they were in colour.
Hootyhaha Hootyhaha It was called "Saturday Morning Cartoons Greatest Hits". And you are correct, it was awesome. And "Fat Albert" is one of the best songs on the CD for sure.
I requested this last time HELMET came to Gainesville and Paige laughed at me. But you know what? I'm totally gonna request it again when they come back in October!
They played it the show that I went to a while back.
imo, this is their best song.
@@VikoTheBassist Do you remember the date?
@@peetersdrummingmusic6781 It was in Austin TX sometime late 2019
@@VikoTheBassist thanks for the info.
Great tribute, guys! GO OLD SCHOOL!!! I watched this show when I was 4! Yes, I'm 62!
Absolutely should play it
I was grape ape and banana splits era but gigantor certainly kicks a little ass of his own
Just saw Helmet play live this evening in STL, they did Gigantor, and it was awesome.
John Steiner's snare sound is iconic
Definitely is fo sho. 🤘🖤🤘
John Stanier is a God of Drums, very close to John Bonham and Dave Lombardo.
DUDE! I've loved this cover since I was a kid! Finding this video made my day, me and my daughter are blasting it now
You got Saturday Morning's Greatest Hits? Introduced me to the cover and I'm 55, so should have known the original but sadly didn't. Bitchin tune, no doubt.
Whoever thought of making a rock song out of a old anime intro is a genius
Yes, but even better, It is a whole album! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturday_Morning:_Cartoons%27_Greatest_Hits
Cartoon Network.
Page Hamilton does a lot of music tracks for movies and shows as well. Helmet will be always my favorite Band of modern day times period.
Helmet rules!!!!
1:16 The most wicked breakdown, ever..
I just love these guys so much
Helmet came to my town gainesville fl. and page was taking requests, all he asked is that you know the correct name of the song, and that you request one they hadnt played yet. I yelled out GIGANTOR and he laughed. lol. He did play tic for me though.
Page Hamilton always has the coolest guitar solos.
I really wanna know if he used a harmonizer pedal or if he(or rob) did a second track for harmony
wow. ive been a helmet fan since 02 and i just read about this song on wikipedia for the 1st time, cool song from when this band where still kicking ass, new helmet is just not the same
still this is further proof that music in the 90s was the shit
I had this cd called Saturday Morning. Loved that cd, all the old old cartoons
I still have it
That guy?... Just beat the SHIT out of those drums....
Nakor Isilani John Stanier Rockzzz
How the hell did I miss this back in the day? UA-cam rocks!
Helmet rocks , it's just rocks.

WOW i never knew there was a video for this. i remember when this came out for the Saturday Morning comp in '95. Kick-ass, thanks a ton for posting!!!
There was a VHS tape with videos from the album hosted by Drew Barrymore
Loved the Saturday morning cartoon song cd
i love those Helmet dirges, they really know how to go with the flow
I don't know why, but this song makes me feel superheroic.
This is so fucking sick!!! I fucking love it!!
ALAS, HIGHNESS BARRYMORE, I SHALL BE THE ROBOT YOU SUMMONED.
My power is at your command.
🥰😍😘
John Stanier is needed. It's not Helmet without him.
best riff ever and the girl isnt wrong
The girl? You mean Drew Barrymore?
I had no idea that was Drew Barrymore, but yes. "Gigantor rocks, it just rocks"
There was a TV special/VHS tape with videos from the Saturday Morning Cartoons Greatest Hits album. Drew was the host
I owned the cd as a kid, but I guess I missed the videos.. until seeing this youtube video. Thanks for the info
I remember seeing this on MTV back in the day. 1994-1995. Along with Green Day - Basketcase, which was being played like crazy.
Such a good vocal... AWESOME COVER!
Thumbs up if you never missed an episode of Gigantor, and still listen to Helmet!
As far as I can tell, the album this cover is from - Saturday Morning: Cartoons' Greatest Hits - had an hour-long special with Drew. Presumedably, this is part of that special.
Fun song and video. A Helmet classic! :D
I always thought the kid in Gigantor with the remote control was the same kid as Dondi. I was very young in those days. You can tell how old I am now if I know who Dondi was.

I was hooked when i heard swallowing everything
Page needs to at least get Stanier back in the band. Helmet just hasn't been the same without his drum style.
it's different because page is 58 now, he's not 30 anymore and he had to start singing differently and everything.. besides john apparently didn't get along with page much in the end so 90s helmet is officially dead

É muito boa. Foi a melhor do álbum.
melhor mesmo, todas são boas, mas do Gigantor fiz até um clip pra eles, da uma olhada no meu canal aqui do youtube o video. The Rock Bless You.
So '90s
Clássico! Assistia no programa Gás Total de Gastão na MTV
Trilha sonora dos meus 17 anos! Q saudade...❤
I miss lead guitar like Hamilton's; wide, loud skronky washes of noise and emotion. Very cool.
+TheBoondoggler Unique stuff indeed, great lead guitar, never heard before, nothing like it.

+Noble the Heathen I'd recommend Andy Gill of Gang of Four circa Entertainment. Check out To Hell With Poverty.
+TheBoondoggler i find his leads to almost shit all over a beautiful track at times.

@InfiniteHollywood The video's from an old VHS called Saturday Morning Cartoons... bunch of badass songs from the soundtrack!
I Looove it!!
One of my favorite Helmet tunes actually, Page looks like Forrest Griffin in this video, you can tell it was done ages ago.
YEAH! Still got it!

I'd love to play along side of Paige Hamilton and company. these guys are way into my top 5 bands of all time.
Helmet is badass. They can write songs about being pissed, they can write songs about dogs, they can even write songs about Gigantor! most bands are hung up on one topic like love or something lol
Um this is a cover lol
Gurl says " I luv Helmet, -head bangs-" sF/
Note- things to get into. 🎉
Ah - Helmet, those were the days...
I remember wearing clothes like these
I'm 6'8 and just shy of 300 pounds. This song was MADE to be my WWE entrance.

1970s after school!!!
A menina que ficava falando no meio da música era a Drew Barrymore? Essa música do Helmet é demais.
Life begins at 02:40. 🤘🏽
The breakdowns!

Cool.
@bullikins
I severely doubt that, my friend.
Gigantor kicks ALL ass.
Drew Barrymore's robot is the Fuzuoku 5000!~
It was an anime series.
Ah.. 240p We met again... Well Whatever, THE SONG IS FUCKING AMAZING!
@Nakor420ish I sware to god, I think I have that CD. XD
has this anything to with german punk band Gigantor cause it obviously sounds a lot more punky
+dr. Nothing Probably not. This is really just a cover of the Gigantor intro (Gigantor was the English name of Tetsujin 28-go, an anime)
Dickies version is way better, and I'm a Helmet fan.

🤪😉🙃👍
Can anyone tell me what's with Drew Barrymore talking about Gigantor? I mean, I know it was part of that video, but it seems sort of random.
Drew is talking about Page's G&L. Page almost married Winona Ryder with that thing!
Perhaps Dave Mustaine is in rapture after that, don't you?
"Dickies version is way better, and I'm a Helmet fan."
Truth
agree and I'm a dickies fan
Druffmaul and im a gigantor fan.. hahaha..
Druffmaul not even close. Helmet puts metal\grunge into this. Way better sound. The Dickies made it seem to grayish punk. Hated it
I meant to say it gayish
I disagree I think the Dickie's version is nice but kind of sloppy.
Fuckin movie clips spoil all the UA-cams on this aobum!
Kindergarten _\M/etal
Minimal effort here. But I except it
This is lame compared to The Dickies.
