Cannot stop listening to Aftertaste, the best, most direct and honest lyrics with their constant changes and great riffs create a constant loop in me brain hole.
In the modern, noodly, speedy metal age (which I also love), returning to this is like reseting the baseline. This band is the equivalent of t-shirt, jeans and vans. Timeless classics.
This band obviously didn't get the recognition, and seemed to fly under the radar, however, it makes it greater that they're like a rare diamond that not everyone has the privilege of finding like me. I only discovered this band tonight by chance they're coming to tour in New Zealand.

meat potatoes and gravy is how I'd describe helmet. smooth and savory are the riffs. the lyrics thoughtful but not pretentious. just all around good band.

Hamilton is a riff GOD. Fat, solid, chunks of funk and rock and heavy solidity. Helmet was punching 7/9/12/8th tempos before Tool was a twitch in Adam Jone's dad's balls.
I know Helmet from the beginning is the band of Page Hamilton, but sometimes i miss Stanier and Bogdan in their lineup. Aftertaste is my favorite Helmet album.
Stanier and Bogdan turned Hamilton's riffs into full-on sledgehammers. On their worst day, that lineup could go toe-to-toe with any of the metal titans of the day.

So bummed out they broke up before I could legally drive. The new band isn't the same - the energy is not there that they had in the 90's and John is one of the sickest drummers ever. Battles is pretty sweet at least.

I don’t think this band is so much underrated as they are forgotten…from a commercial standpoint at least. They were wildly popular in the 90s…HELMET shirts were everywhere in the rock community and we all had at least one of their cassettes or CDs knocking around on the floorboard of our cars. It’s just that guitars in general fell out of favor with the younger generation. Guitars have been turned down in the mix these past few decades, and with Helmet, they were front and center.
First concert I went to after getting out of Army in 93 was helmet. Got nailed in the back, pit behind me. Got nasty nose bleed when hit back person front of me, group hit chicks walked me to restroom, waited there. Was FN awesome!

He put in literally 1000x more work into helmet than anyone else and John leaving wasn’t his fault or his problem. He wrote 100% of their material, did lead guitar and vocals and the Betty cover in particular was inspired by his MOTHER. Just because you don’t like newer helmet doesn’t mean it’s not worth giving a try. I like size matters more than some of the 90s stuff because it’s factual that Helmet is Page, not John or Henry or anyone else yet almost nobody admits or gives him the credit for it. Blame John and Henry for walking out then maybe.
The song I first heard from a rock station in Davao City - NU 107 FM way back mid 90s. Also reminds me of some other rock hits like Down, All Mixed Up and Beautiful Disaster by 311, Dropping Anchor and the other one I found just recently Higher by Jimmy's Chicken Shack, Sabotage by Beastie Boys, Away, Tyler and Possum Kingdom by Toadies, Star by Hum, Filter's Hey Man Nice Shot and more.👍✌️🤘😉
