    you don't need to calculate the decay times for the envelopes. just type 1/8 or whatever fraction length you need in there. it automatically calculates it for your set bpm.

      @Projektor_music  10 місяців тому +1

      you would still need to subtract the release time & shorten the note by that time too which is not needed for the LFO method. At least if you are planning on using a wavetable bass without resampling like I do in this case

      @king_thin 10 місяців тому +1

      @Projektor_music yeah that's true if you want clean patches, that work on their own. For cleanliness I use the note length midi effect, so release times don't matter in my approach.

    Your content is amazingly deep and advanced, yet you make it easy to understand, both theoretically and practically. I am grateful for everything I learned from your videos! I do have a question regarding the reasoning for dropping the key-following EQ you used in the older patch you have shared in the “Cleanest Possible Psytrance Bass Patch” video. I really liked the concept of the harmonic based EQ, especially when creating melodic basslines. Another question is regarding the gain staging element you used in that older patch, why is it not necessary with the new patch? And lastly I have a question regarding the 2nd harmonic. Besides “ducking” the fundamental completely when the bass overlaps with the kick, would it be helpful to have a control over the ducking of the 2nd harmonic as well, maybe even just partially? And lastly, would you consider controlling the levels of the fundamental and 2nd harmonic of the bass in general (separately) as something that can be useful? I saw the @adrenakrohm was doing that on his Vital patch and be playing with it I noticed that adjusting the levels of the fundamental and 2nd harmonic I can achieve better balance between them as well as with the higher harmonics. And finally, you have said that by taking the fundamental out of the equation you do not need to do phase alignment, is this true mostly based on the visual insights based on the oscilloscope or also based on listening? I am asking because I so that E-Clip is still using PHA-979 in order to find the sweetspot of the alignment between the bass and the kick even after applying a technique to duck the fundamental completely from the bass at the overlapping range, and he explains that although very subtle, he can hear a positive change and a better sounding synchronization between the kick and the bass when finding the sweetspot. What are you thoughts about it? Thanks again for sharing all this valuable information with us!

      This is a very interesting comment & I'll probably use it in my next bass patch creation session when I eventually need a new bass patch. To be honest there are many things that I either didn't know about or didn't care about at the time of making the latest patch even. Overall though I found that using the keytracking EQ is just a worse version of editing the harmonics directly in serum and the overall idea of the patch was to keep it simpler & quicker to use than my older patches. Especially comparing it to the previous MSoundFactory patch (which, in retrospect, had many fundamental issues) I used to use I noticed that all the extra complexity didn't actually lead to a better sound. When judging these things the priority is of course how it sounds but the waveform analysis also plays a big role in this. I don't want to make a sound which deliberately doesn't work from a technical perspective. I might make a more complex patch again in the future, I may not. for now I like this patch as it's quick & easy to use with just the macros.

      @Projektor_music Thanks for replying. How would you edit the harmonics (as in the keytracking Eq) directly in serum? The control over the 2nd harmonic can be done by using a dedicated oscillator, as done by adrenakrohm in vital, but in serum you are limited for only 2 oscillators. You can offcourse use the sub oscillator for the fundamental but then you won’t be able to morph it (which is the way to control its ducking…), how can you overcome this and what would be the other downsides of using the sub oscillator for the fundamental? I have tried to find way to be able to duck the sub with an lfo modulation but couldn’t make it work, so I’m guessing for the moment the morphing trick is the only way to be able to do this right?

    • @itayoron
      @itayoron 8 місяців тому

      @@Projektor_music and also what are tour thoughts about the possibility of still doing the phase alignment even after ducking the fundamental at the overlapping range to achieve even a better synchronization between the kick & bass for an even more open sound?

    • @Projektor_music
      @Projektor_music  8 місяців тому +1

      @@itayoron you can use the harmonic editor inside the wavetable editor (on the wavetable, there is a small pencil in the top right). You will see a list of individual harmonics with their volume and phase in seperate bins. I would indeed not use the sub oscilator for the fundamental but if I was forced to do it I could probably find a way to combine multiple modulations to get the same volume effect (it's not the morphing that is important on the fundamental frequency, as that is just another way to change volume)

    • @Projektor_music
      @Projektor_music  8 місяців тому +1

      @@itayoron As I said the phase allignment (and all other things in your comment) would be something I'd need to investigate further, but for now I am happy with the basslines I'm making without it. The main reason for my style of phase allignment is to minimize any peaks that might trigger the limiter when limiting, unlike in traditional phase allignment where you want cohesion between the sub of the kick & bass also. Cohesion between the kick & bass is no concern for me as the sub bass is not present when the kick plays

    Really nice tutorial on Serum! One question: Shouldn't the rate for "side-chaining" the kick on the fundamental always be set to 1/4? Independent from the length of the note?

    • @Projektor_music
      @Projektor_music  3 місяці тому

      Yes it should be. I believe I also set it up like that. In the preset the subshifter LFO is LFO 5 while in the patch from scratch it's LFO 4. You can see both are set to 1/4 notes and I don't assign any modulation to it. (I just quickly skimmed through the video, correct me if I'm wrong!)
