Hey there, lovely souls! Have you ever found yourself questioning if the life you're living truly reflects your authentic self? Well, you're not alone. Today, we're diving into the fascinating topic of personality versus authenticity with the insightful Dr. Gabor Maté. Join Dr. Gabor Maté on a transformative journey to unmask your personality and discover your true self. Learn about defense mechanisms, PTSD, and the power of authenticity in this eye-opening video.
Welcome back to the channel, everyone. I'm thrilled to introduce you to the brilliant Dr. Gabor Maté, a renowned expert in the field of psychology and human behavior. Today, we're delving into the concept of personality versus authenticity and how it impacts our lives. Many of us struggle with the constant battle between conforming to societal expectations and staying true to our authentic selves. The pressure to fit in and meet external standards can often lead us to lose touch with who we really are at our core. This inner conflict can cause feelings of dissatisfaction, anxiety, and a sense of disconnect from our true essence.
Let's take a deeper look into how societal conditioning and past traumas play a significant role in shaping our perceived personalities. From a young age, we are influenced by cultural norms, family dynamics, and societal standards that mold our behaviors and beliefs. These external influences can sometimes overshadow our authentic selves, leading us to wear masks to fit in and be accepted. Now, here comes the pivotal moment. Dr. Gabor Maté sheds light on the path to uncovering and embracing our authentic selves. By exploring our past experiences, understanding our emotional wounds, and embracing our vulnerabilities, we can peel back the layers of conditioning to reveal our true essence. Dr. Maté's insights offer a beacon of hope for those seeking to live a more authentic and fulfilling life.
In essence, living authentically is not just a choice but a necessity for our mental and emotional well-being. Embracing our true selves allows us to experience a sense of inner peace, fulfillment, and genuine connection with others. It's a journey worth embarking on, despite the challenges it may bring. Remember, authenticity is the key to unlocking a life of purpose and joy. As we wrap up today's discussion, I encourage you to explore more about authenticity and self-discovery. Dive deeper into Dr. Gabor Maté's work, engage with related videos on the topic, and share your thoughts in the comments below. Your journey to self-discovery starts now. Don't be afraid to embrace your true self and live authentically. Thank you for joining me today, and until next time, stay true to yourself.

I appreciate how Dr. Gabor addresses the "source" of nearly all problems, emotional pain in childhood. Unfortunately, medicine and others ignore this and instead focus on medicating the "symptoms." That is so true. Identity and personality are constructs. The outer shell that we project into the world, much of which is influenced by our upbringing.

He is not a psychiatrist , psychologist, or social worker...he should discuss body parts.

I withdrew from everyone as a child. I watched my dad attempt to kill my mom and he kept me from getting help and running away by jamming knives between the door and door jam. My grades suffered through school and I couldn’t feel part of the world as a whole.

Thank you for posting this vital information to all. The truth has been hidden for far to long by the programming we receive, from childhood, to 'fit-in' to this materialisticly orientated world. Thanks to Dr Gabor for his work, it is critical for people to get to understand ourselves more fully and outside of the religious doctrines which in most cases compound the problem further. Thank you again for your channel.

The more i look into early childhood development the more I'm convinced that nurture has an exponentially greater effect on who you become as an adult than nature. Of course nature has some input in severe instances but nurture i firmly believe is more detrimental

I appreciate your thoughtful insight on the impact of nurture on adult development.

I also believe that one can move away from these mal adaptive coping strategies but having to do so as an adult is much more difficult than if you had had The "good enough" childhood experiences and upbringing. I am on a journey of change, self discovery, dark night, all the things for the past 2+ years and i must say that it hasn't been easy nor is it linear. I still have to remind myself often that the only way to heal is, no matter what, to keep moving forward because the past already happened and cannot be changed and the future is yet to be. I also need to remind myself when things get really bad that i am NOT the only one struggling with these issues.

We ALL have a public persona and a private one...nothing new or unusual there.

Unusual part is that toxic people, toxic ambient, shame-culture country can deform this persona without us realizing that we are injured by psychopaths, sociopaths, narcissists who have public persona of angel and saints or helpers or fixers or some kind of authority.

      @@robynhope219 This is another extreme.
Where we label everyone as pathological.
Trauma is issue of attachment styles - we end up pull push back with anxious avoidant style.
We seek help but in the same time we perceive other people as sociopaths and hence never listen to them, never form close relationship.. This ends up as borderline disorder where we end up seeing people as either angels or devils, as if there is no spectrum.
GM has his flaws like everyone else.
Jordan Peterson is better example of a person who gives facade of a helper - but what he really doing is spreading narcissism and he is teaching people how to develop mental illness and how to abuse their own children, with his rules for life.
      -
Anyone who tells you that he has a solution, a cure, a system, a therapy, a course, framework, religion, love, empathy or rules for life - is a glorified con-artist. Probably a psychopathic narcissist. And anyone who tells you this is out for your money and adulation. He seeks either narcissistic supply or power, or money. They want your subservient admiration and everything you have, because they are merciless and callous, & they are very sick people.
