I think every girl who had a crush on Davy feels that way. He was such an important part of our childhoods, and he meant so much to everyone. Each of us will carry him with us in our hearts forever, and our hearts will always be broken. There aren't too many clebrities who have that kind of long-lasting impact on their fans.Davy was very special!
I still have a Monkees album from 1967. I was 8 years old and it was the first gift from my parents on my birthday. Hard to believe Davey and Cassidy have already passed on.😢
OMG - Forgot how funny Mikey Dolenz and Tork are - Love this interview....especially the bit about Hendrix opening for them trying to play Foxy Lady in between audience chants "We want Davy! We Want Davy!"
Miss you Davy, you were my first love @ 6 yrs old! You were my childhood then. I don’t remember much from those days, but I do remember crushing on you and my parents buying all your albums for me! I remember saving my allowances to buy the Tiger Beat mags, and also being Davy for Halloween! Miss the good old days! And thanks for all the wonderful memories!
You are so right. I had lots of crushes when I was a little girl [Bobby Sherman, David Cassidy, and Donny Osmond], but when Davy passed away, it felt as though I had lost a dear, close friend. It hurt, and it still hurts to know that he's gone. I've never had a strong emotional connection to a celebrity, and I've never been so affected by a celebrity's death. Davy was one of a kind. We lost this sweet man much to soon. I'll never heal completely.
I know this is from 9 years ago but I still feel the same way. Davy is the only celebrity that I totally broke down over when I heard he had passed. He was my childhood love and beyond.

Mike Nesmith became a writer/director/ producer who, as Mickey said, mixed an album they did together. The guys have other lives. Thank God Mike is still with them, just not on tour. For four young men who didn't know one another, they've been together 48 years, Davy in spirit. At least now, what they write they own. Neil Diamond and others did right by them when they began. Be happy Mike's still with them rather than down him. ¬ JTD

Mickey and Peter are really in sync here. Belly laughs! How the hell did I miss this interview originally? I bought the album the day it came out, I was a regular tonight show watcher.... don't know.
I saw Hendrix open for them at Red Rocks; I was 13 I think...none of us knew what the hell we were listening to! It was just like that scene in Back to the Future; just a crowd of really confused kids! LOL
I was lucky enough to see these three when they were doing one of their reunion tours. Peter was so hilarious. Davy was always my favorite. RIP Davy & Peter‼️
Mike does join them on occasion but he still has a huge company that he has commitments to and it is not like he can just let go. We should all be glad he is still here at least and enjoy what he has offered. I love all the Monkees but Mike is my favorite still after 40 some years.
He's not here anymore and no I don't think he ever appreciated what the Monkeys did for him and his career. He is one of the big reasons the show was cancelled.
Mike loves to tour NOW at 70 something after quadruple bypass with not one band but two bands: 1st National Redux and the Mike and Mickey show. People do change!
Man Mike loved the Monkees. Mike and peter were Real Solid muscians. I think Mike wanted be in a real band the monkees were a TV show about a band. Mike also got into the business side creating video and recieved the first grammy for a video. I even believe Mike and Peter not getting along was an artistic conflict not personal. I bet if you put Mike and peter on an island for a week with just them with a studio, instruments some kick ass pot and beer they would of made some AWESOME music.
Actually Jimi opened for them 5-7 times b4 he got mad and threw his guitar into the audience. Lol. He was singing foxy lady while the girls were screaming foxy davy. Lol
"Mike's mixing our new album." "AAIIIIIEEEE!!!!" Meanwhile, how many of those people screaming actually BOUGHT the damn thing when it came out? Not too many, I'd wager. I did, and JUSTUS is a pretty good album! True, there's no poppy "Clarksville" or "Believer" on it, but what is there - "It's Not Too Late, "You And I," and "Regional Girl" - is worthy of the guys' legacy. The updated version of "Circle Sky" is worth the price of admission alone! ;)
I DID!! I"M the ONE who bought it. This album sold even less copies than Pool It! I know I'll get attacked on this one but I prefer Pool it to Justus. There are a few good tunes on Justus but it's definitely not Headquarters 2 whereas Pool it is a jamming '80s update of the Kirshner era type of thing. I took it out and dusted it off recently and my gosh, 30 years later there are some brilliant tunes on it (along with a couple of clunkers). Of course, Good Times is the Mac-Daddy of everything.
I never got Mike Nesmith's attitude towards the Monkees. Why not just have fun with it and let people enjoy themselves? He always seemed to take himself so seriously. Life is full of heartache so lighten other people's burden if you can.
A lot of the times it was because of other obligations. Mike has always run a company or two here and there, as well as having multiple projects of an artistic nature going on at the same time. Most of the time it wasn't because he didn't want to, but he simply couldn't. He's back in the game now though, so it all balanced out in the end. :)
In 1968 I would stare at their various little photos on the album cover and sometimes see pics elsewhere. I never felt comfortable with Nesmith's face. He looks like a pissed-off person not trying hard enough to hide it. Decades later ('80s) I spoke to people older than me who had bigger more detailed memories of all things '60s & '50s. They knew people who interacted with him, reflecting that he was a pampered but jaded snob with sour grapes attitude about anything that didn't go his way and that didn't profit him more than his peers. And they also stated that he "took himself way-way too seriously in proportion to his actual talent".
@@nmtg Well, everyone ages. And now there's only Micky left. I'd give anything to have them still around (older than dirt) rather than where they are now! I miss them! RIP Davy, Peter and Mike. 💜🧡💙
Robert Michael Nesmith wrote the most amount of released recordings: before and after he became one of the "Monkees." This includes the unreleased recordings. I collected only half of their released recordings. But the thing is: I'm still into collecting the 1980s new age music normally as usual in the long run. Even though I treat eerie, Halloween sounds a lot like if they were music to my ears. 🎶 🎵 😐 😕 🙃 😳 🎶

Just as I have never contemplated the death of Donny, I never contemplated the death of Davy either.... and especially not since last year he was a bundle of energy doing the reunion 45th tour and his own series of concert shows.
