@@juliantorres3239 It wasn't mid-game, but it was mid-series: In 2004, Doug Mientkiewicz was traded by the Twins to the Red Sox after game one of their three game series in late July. I remember going to game 2 of that series with my friends. At that particular game, the Twins did this thing where before the game, the fans went onto the field for a meet n greet with the players (we were roped off to stay on the warning track basically). The Twins players walked around in groups and you could get autographs, pictures, etc. One of my good friends with us had a massive crush on Dougie (as she called him) and she had heard that he might have been traded to the Red Sox (remember this is pre-Twitter/smartphones so news did not travel lightning fast). As the last of the Twins players paraded past us fans, and no Mientkiewicz was in sight, she was crushed. Doug even started for the Sox in game 2 and in his first at-bat, he got a standing ovation from the hometown Twins crowd (including us and my very emotional friend). Interestingly, he then grounded out to his replacement, a then not-well-known Justin Morneau. That fall, Mientkiewicz caught the final out of the World Series for the Red Sox breaking the curse of the Great Bambino. I remember he caught the ball and then immediately pocketed it before celebrating with his teammates (smart). Bet you weren't expecting a deep Doug Mientkiewicz anecdote here, were ya.
The Braves and Expos traded Graig Nettles in the 80s shortly before a spring training game against each other, and the Expos put him in the lineup. Graig walked out of the dugout and heard a familiar voice shout "Graig, what happened"... he'd had no time to tell his wife. (pre-smartphones, etc)
I can't imagine the overwhelming emotions of players when they get traded mid-season. They abandon all the friendships they have made along their journey to join another team, where they make new friends, and still might get traded again.
@@TimRodriguezz it really depends. Alot of the traded players are journeymen and have gone through it before. But for the bigger players that have been with teams for a while and have a house there, their families and friends, kids schools, and at the same time if you didn't ask for the trade you probably do feel pretty betrayed. It's gotta be rough, but they're also doing what they love for a living. I'd take the downside of the trade and everything that comes with it all day to play baseball and make millions.
@@Imugi007 most players don’t have their family move full time for the reason. Also, if you’ve been around long enough to get settled somewhere and you get traded, chances are you only have a few viable years left as a player anyway, so it’s temporary.
In 1999 i went on a 3 day bus trip to St Louis, Milwaukee, and Chicago to watch a game on each city. On Friday, Cards were playing the rockies and Darryl Hamilton started for Colorado, on Saturday he got traded to the Mets, who were playing the cubs on Sunday. So saw him play his last game with St Louis and first with new York I remember sitting in the stands before the cubs game and they showed the starting lineups and i was thinking Darryl Hamilton sounds really familiar, them they showed that he had been traded. Always thought that was neat and couldn't have happened to too many people.... Except for the other 40 people on the bus i was with of course
There was a trade a few years ago with the two teams that were playing each other in a season series. The trade happened during the game and the guy played against his former team the next day. He went over to the visiting team dugout sometime during the game. I forget what teams and player it was. Anyone else remember this?
Aug 4 1982 Joel Youngblood got a hit in Chicago for the Mets in a day game at Wrigley then was traded to the Montreal Expos during the game. He then flew to Philadelphia to join his new team. He then got a hit for them also becoming the only man to ever get 2 hits in the same day for 2 diffrent teams in 2 diffrent cities.

I still think it's wild that in both the MLB and NBA you can get traded in the middle of a game and they have to pull you out. You would think the decent thing to do would be to wait until the game was over before sealing any deals and making the trade public to the press. It just feels like a slap to the face of the player that in the heat of competition, you suddenly have to dap up your brothers who are now no longer teammates and leave while they still have to do battle with their opponent.
Not unless the game is suspended. The same player was both the winning and losing pitcher in a minor league game a number of years ago. He was pitching for one team when the game was suspended, was traded to the other, and got shelled pitching for his new team when the game resumed.
It always depends what kind of trade it is. If your on a good team its bad news if your on a bad team its good news. Unless your Joey Gallo who went from good to good idk how
I have been searching and unable to find the video of when Yasiel Piug learned about being traded to the Indians from crowd hecklers. It was amusing when Puig turned to the fans in confusion.
Chuck Taylor he didn’t get traded. The trade fell through last minute. The manager wasn’t even aware of the trade and by the time that game was over there was no trade
Nah..... got one better. Imagine flying with your team and then finding out in between flight that you're traded to the team you visiting? Royals>>>Yankees.
That’s gotta be a mind fuck, I’m sure a lot of the time they know it’s going to occur. But damn moving your family across the country starting a new job is never easy.
Lmao imagine they get traded to their opponent and just trot across to the other dugout
I really want to see that happen

I was at the Detroit game when Austin Jackson was pulled from CF mid inning to get traded. Pretty wild. We loved Jackson.

I know Derrek Lee did that when the Cubs traded him to the Braves during a series.
That was the bud Norris trade . The orioles traded for him from the Astros and he pitched against them the next day .
Maybe Abraham Toro? traded to mariners from astros for Kendall graveman or something
Yup

You missed a really great one. When Carlos gomez was traded on waivers from the brewers. He was very emotional.
Imagine being in Tampa Bay and being notified you’ve been traded to San Francisco. The complete opposite side of the country. That would be nuts.
The opposite side would actually be Seattle but I get it. Must suck getting traded from a nice city to one where shits all over the streets.

So if teams happen to be playing a game and work out a trade during the game could the players take an at bat for two teams in the same game?
In short - no. The available players can not be added to during the game.

I though it was hilarious when Puig got traded while he was in the middle of a fight on the field. 😂
He still made a play too!

the JD trade mid game made me a bit emotional man. loved him in a tigers uniform
Justin ha JD the goat with the RedSox
Cole Hamels is in the thumbnail and a couple days ago he found out he got traded to the Cubs during a game...
City of Super Bowl Champions didn't know that trade was during a game

I have been searching and unable to find the video of when Yasiel Piug learned about being traded to the Indians from crowd hecklers. It was amusing when Puig turned to the fans in confusion.
That was the same game where the Reds brawled with The Pirates and Puig was really going crazy in that fiasco 🤣🤣🤣

What happens if a player hit a home run between the time of the trade and pulling him from the game? Would it still count?
I traded some baseball cards once.... :-/
so do players arrive to a new team mid game?
gerardo parra on the orioles. thats something i’d completely forgotten about
Never understood why they don't just make the trades effective midnight or some such thing.
Imagine if we could be traded from our jobs....to rival businesses on whatever field we all work in....trade for future hires (draft picks)

all of these videos are cut off
Dixon Machado today cubs to Giants. Btw I’m a Giants fan.
Remember when Randy Johnson played for the Astros, and in the middle of one game found out he was traded? Don't remember where he went.
Timothy McClelland He was never traded from the Astros.
Maybe it might have been someone else... can't remember though.

Those these were fun when players got traded in the middle of the game now you don’t see that
They always get traded either in BP (Like christain vazquez) or they get traded before they even get to the stadium
Wheres will
That’s gotta be a mind fuck, I’m sure a lot of the time they know it’s going to occur. But damn moving your family across the country starting a new job is never easy.
@ jb - Ever hear of a player being on the field at the time of the trade, injured at that point and the trade having to be undone ?
Why not submit the paperwork when the game is over?? How awkward
What happens if you got traded to your opposition in the middle of the game?
It happens
I got an idea for a video
Pictures facing their former teams
i hate it when a picture has to face their former team

They play 162 games in 183 days so there isn't many off days to make a trade sometime it's just the timing
It because once the trade it's made the new team don't want their new investment hurt. That's what have been told anyway..
2 things
Should be able to finish the game
And don't tell them until after the game
First again and another great video
Thanks
