Hi Andy, thanks for all the blogs, love them. Just bought the CB1000R Honda Black Edition, what a moto. Your advice was spot on, they don’t pay you enough, safe rides fahren Sie sicher 👍
Worth mentioning that when doing the left side it drops slightly, bout half a cm which makes it a tad difficult to align it all back up without a brace.. Going to be fitting these to the 21 model shortly, so thanks for the short vid... & for SW-Motech the ends of the bar where he placed the plastic scrub should really have a separate bit of steel to slide in so that the left & right at the front have stability from being knocked & bent in..
Hi Andy, Stephen from San Francisco. I bought a CB1000R last week at SFMoto. I'm loving the bike and don't want to see it scratched up/dented from a fall. I like that the SW Motech bars don't take away from the bike's clean look. Thanks for creating the video and i plan on getting a pair of bars.
mmmm wont lie, those motech bars look nice, i plan on buying a cb1000r at the and of the year so im vicariously living through you my man. greetings from Australia.
That’s always the way mate. Sorry to hear it. It happened to me on my FZ1 where i switched to smaller crash bungs from big engine bars and then dropped the bike on the very next trip EXACTLY where the bars used to be 🤦🏻♂️ I’ve now accepted that a bike that gets used properly can never come out of the experience looking like new!
Studied your shots of the sw-motech logos. On mine the rhs was upside down and whilst both were almost touching the rear mounting point they weren't evenly spaced forward either. I also had to source the end bungs locally in the UK as they were missing from the pack. I resolved the upside down motif with a hair dryer and craft knife, carefully teasing it off, turning over and matching the other's position whilst still quite warm . Guess they better quality controlled yours knowing it would be video'd. Great videos, keep them up.
That’s a bit of a shame. Sorry to hear it Anthony, usually they’re pretty solid. AFAIK my stuff just came out of the usual warehouse. No excuse though, that kind of thing shouldn’t happen from a company with such a reputation for quality. Truth be told, in your position i would have had a moan at them!
@@AndyManCam you're not wrong but in true spirit I just got on with it, so to speak. Had to order 2 sizes of bung to ensure internal diameter and external coverage was correct (nearly £7 inc postage) and with that level of concern you can imagine what the upside down motif did for me. OCD or not! Kind regards and thanks for replying. Stay safe..
Good old stiff upper lip eh! Fix up and make do, wot wot! Alls well that ends well i suppose. I guess the alternative would have been waiting for replacements and maybe even having to send the incomplete kit back. Also annoying.
I had the same issue on a pair that arrived last week. Called them up and they instructed me to do the same….heat up and flip round manually. Also offered to send out additional stickers. Said it was because the stickers were manually added on in Germany, so mistakes happen. If I am going to go to the trouble of removing the stickers, I’d be better off leaving them off completely!
@sateshdadlani2016 Agreed, if i had to remove them, I’d just leave them off! They had one chance to get it right and win some free advertising off you. But they blew it! Debadged it is!
Yes have to go with the majority. Those bars look badass and would be good for hanging stuff off. Good choice and has to be on my growing list for the CB. 🏴👍
Hey Andy, love the videos. Just installed these crash bars on my 2018 cb1000r. Have you noticed your shins banging into them and do you believe tank grips or other mods that would fix it?
Thanks Ron. Totally! I can hang alsorts of gubbins off of these beasties! Plus on longer rides, I can hang my feet off the front like a cruiser! (Until the engine gets too hot!)
If the bike goes down does this protect the rest of the bike? Maybe minus the handlebars? Also, love the British banter. Reminds me of my grandmother from Newcastle.
Within reason, sure. Although like any tripod, there has to be a third leg if the bike goes down. So handlebars, engine bar and then either the rear subframe or the rear footpeg. For me, i also have the SW-Motech SLC Pannier hoops at the back so my subframe should be at least partially protected.
Hi Andy, hello from Northern Ontario Canada. No crossover bar on the two engine bars? So they are not linked togeather, strange! I love my SW-moteck engine bars, the have some battle scars already, lol green horn that I am. All scars from dropping at a stop light or road sign while cars where just watching. Lol
I thought the same, though they’re very solid with the double engine mounts used. It comes to us all mate, just good when a 100€ bar takes the hit, instead of a 1000€ engine! 😂
Hello, I just started to install the left side and have problem to screw the engine bolt it seems engine felt out some milimeters...pls, help me and let me know how to get it back into position...thanks for your help!
Hey Andy, why you uninstalled the crash bars again? In your last video with installing the arrows exhaust i can't see the crash bars? So i have also a CB1000R SC80 with the same crash bars and i am glad to have them by my last accident. Many greets Andy from Düsseldorf
Hi Andreas! I took them off because I found them just a bit too big. I kept catching my shins on them when I got on and off! Glad you had them save you though!
I was going to fit SW Motech frame sliders to my Honda CB 650R like your Yamaha. Were your frame sliders fitted after your accident as they do not appear to offer good protection? The SW Motech crash bars for the CB 650R seem more protective than frame sliders but unlike the CB1000R do not look quite as nice on the bike. I guess it's the difference between cosmetics and proper protection! Smashing video's thank you for uploading. SW France
Cheers mate, my pleasure. Had the drop with the Yamaha been 'ordinary' then the sliders would have been fine mate. The problem was that I dropped it over the edge of the road, so the engine scraped on the corner. Ironically, the bars would have protected everything just fine in that scenario! D'oh! But still, sadly you can't predict exactly what'll happen and without the sliders the damage would have been considerably worse! It's true though, protection never looks cosmetically pleasing, and pretty stuff never offers protection! SW's bars for the KTM's look really good IMHO, but sadly everything else can look a bit like a riding school bike! Depends on what's more important mate. Picking up adoring looks or avoiding picking up scuffs and scratches!

AndyManCam Oops!! having found your channel, subscribed and caught up with a lot of your videos I can now see how the unfortunate whoopsie happened. That will teach me to do a little more research before asking insensitive questions! Happy and safe riding for 2021.
Good job. I have the same motorcycle. I want to mount crash pads from sw Motech. Same problem: What torque is used to tighten the front engine retaining screw? One mechanic said 60 Nm, another 12 !!! Nm. The old model had 59? At 60 we would be more on the right track ...
@@AndyManCam Thank you.I also found the tightening torques for the CBF 1000, which is also 60 Nm. Unfortunately, I can't find anything for our beautiful CB 1000 R.🤷♂️
The fittings should match the styling of the bike. There are no round pipe frames on this bike. Mostly made of angular machined/cast frames. like the aluminum subframe. after market makers just make parts which are cheap to make, that is welded pipe frames. this fitting is suited for ADV style bikes not modern cafe style. SW Motech Paniers frame is also the same. just welded round pipe. at least if they have made it angular by cutting it, not bending, that would suite this bike more.
Lets hope you never need them, but as we all know, you can never be sure if or when you'll be doing an unplanned emergency dismount. Better to have and not need than need and not have...
Hi mate, thank you kindly fot this preciouwms video. Just a question pleez , do these protect the fuel tank as well ? Also, Any idea on an after market accessory that may bulk up the rear end like what's on the CB1300 SF. I appreciate it young man 🙂
My pleasure! Unfortunately the tank is unprotected (except maybe a little by the bars). I think you’d have to go custom to make it bigger at the back. Luckily i prefer the svelte rear end!
I’m afraid it’s a bit of a conundrum then. You say it’s a really good video, but you want it to be shorter. But if it was shorter, most of the subject matter would be missing and then the video wouldn’t be good anymore. I’m afraid content trumps mobile data!!

Ideally you want 3 mounting points, but they do look nice and "minimalistic".
