AEW has been losing the favor of their fans recently. Former WWE Head Writer Vince Russo joins Dr. Chris Featherstone to discuss these declining numbers and reminds the doctor that Tony Khan now works with Jeff Jarrett. This means that the architect of TNA could potentially help AEW reach similar heights. AEW's future is the hot topic in this special edition of Writing with Russo.

I pretty well tuned out pro wrestling after WCW disappeared. I tried AEW when everyone was gushing about the new product. The PPVs were good. But I knew they were in trouble when they added Rampage and Collision. Just like WCW, they oversaturated their product. In the end it looked more like a combination of ROH and the old ECE. Built for hardcore fans. Everyone knew there weren't enough to make it profitable.

I repestfully disagree with that opinion, NXT has major draw; beating out AEW numbers for a reason and not just because of Booker T. NXT has a solid roster with enough stars to carry the brand where it is today. You may not like the NXT product but the proof is undeniable.

How would a change be worse than the current situation?

Jeff actually understands wrestling and booking. Only a fool wouldn't have him in the room.

@@Abioticwinter Jeff Jarrett is going to do what he's always done, take care of Jeff Jarrett and everything else is second. Same as the HHH mentality.
I wouldn't put him in the room because he will corrupt the room.

@@xoynialedmc When Miro came out in a pink 🩷 mickey mouse shirt and had a videogame streamer gimmick, its clear the issue is Tony Khan.
Russo thinks JJ would get him in as a ghost writer so he's supporting him.
The current situation is bad, but tna got worse when they brought Hogan and bischoff in, and HHH and whoever is a change from mchamhon too and it got worse.
They need a change but I wouldn't have political guys as that change.

@@Leistt TNA didn't get worse when they brought Hogan and Bischoff in. Their viewership hit record highs in 2011. You might say you enjoyed the product less which is perfectly fine, but to claim it got worse like it's a fact when their viewership numbers increased is wrong. That's the same problem being discussed with AEW here. At the end of the day it's a business.
You have to be political to be in charge of a wrestling company, because everyone around you will be playing politics and trying to take that spot. Even Russo in WWF had to tell McMahon that he wasn't going to put up with any BS from politicians trying to oust him as head writer, which in itself is a form of backstage politics. Cornette was removed from that writing team and Prichard was held back from interfering. WWF then moved forward and hit record highs in 1999.
