Henk has gone from being her idol to her friend. Can't get better than that.
I hope they will do something together on Floor's new solo - their voices are great together..
Yup. Henk was the Phantom, and Floor was in the audience....and now we see them performing it together. Floor has many moments of magic. But this one is MAGIC!
Henk Poort not only played the Phantom in the Dutch production of Phantom of the Opera, he also played Jean Valjean in the Dutch production of Les Miserables.
5:38 is my favorite moment of this performance. Henk is Floor's childhood idol, one of the reasons she wanted to sing. He is also Andrew Lloyd Webber's favorite phantom. So when he hits that metal vocal fry it's no surprise that she geeks out as hard as she does. She actually looks more proud than anything else, like I TAUGHT MY HERO METAL.
Absolutely. In the context of this show, where one performer challenges another to "stretch" outside of their comfort zone, this was the perfect Floor choice to see and hear one of her heroes expand on his established prowess. So. Much. Fun!
Good job picking up on some of these dynamics...
rl
🤘👹🤘
Henk played the Dutch version of the phantom. His voice is so good! You need to see his rendition of "Sound of Silence" in that show, it's incredible. He's not moving, sits there nailing the notes. 🙂
I can't even imaging what it must feel like to have your idol, your hero, learning a completely new way of singing, just for you. No drug in the world can beat that.
My guess is is that Crazy was talking about Henk, who was one of Floor’s idols, learning to safely do distortion specifically to sing for (Sound of Silence) and with Floor on Phantom.
@@jessicakoster2543 ah, sorry, got it. Yes, she seemed very happy about it. But his duet with Emma was so beautiful as well.
@@syyneater sorry, I'm tired. 😅
@@crazyr2113 I agree! Personally, I think that Henk and Emma were as awesome together as Henk and Floor. He really stepped back and allowed her to shine, and shine she did! :)
Floor is also about 3mm from geeking out entirely, she’s singing with her hero
For you UK/US people, 3mm = 7ft per yard on a scale of inches ;) love you guys
@@DJGots actually it’s 25.4 mm to the inch, but I was referring to the fact that if you watch her, she’s internally flipping out while singing
@@pacificcoastpiper3949 it was a joke ;)
@@pacificcoastpiper3949 2.54 mm
@@dad6181 25.4 was correct, 2.54 is in cm
On the show Henk said he's done Phantom on the stage about 600 times.
But never with distortion XD
And he still fucked up a word.
Goes to show, even the masters mess up
@@GuitarGuy057 he sang the Dutch version...
@@joskaemck5784
And?
So, I don’t think you fuck something up when you forget one word.
Henk is Dutch.....Floor saw him play the Phantom in her youth and was a big fan of his growing up. When she found out he was going be on the same show, she asked him to do Phantom with her. In turn he sang " Sounds Of Silence " ( Disturbed version ) for her. Good stuff !
He is also apparently Andrew Lloyd Webber’s favourite Phantom.
@@Icipher353 Thanks D T. I had no idea.
@@Icipher353 I think he says it to every Phantom hahahaha
Not entirely correct as the Phantom was the closing duet of the 2019 season. In the first episode Henk was the centered artist and Floor sang Vilja lied for him. In Floor's episode Henk sang Disturbed's version of the Sound of Silence for her. After that Floor asked Henk to do the Phantom duet with her and Henk agreed on the condition that he could perform with Nightwish when they would come to the Netherlands.
Henk Poort was Floors childhood here when he was in Phantom and that is why she agreed to do the show. Her first song was for Henk and she did Vilja Lied as it was the song Henk's Mother sang for his Father, he said it always made his Father cry. Henk was so impressed with Floor's voice that he decided to learn Distortion so that he could sing Distrbed's version of Sound of Silence. He said that distortion was a definite NO NO in Opera. Henk only agreed to sing Phantom of the Opera with Floor if she agreed to let him sing it with Nightwish next time they came to The Netherlands.
Henk Port was the Phantom too!
Henk was the Dutch Phantom for years. Floor's hero.
Only about 600 times or so... majority of Dutch Phantom performances :)
In the Netherlands AND in London
When Floor becomes a devoted Fan Girl in front of her Idol !
I see an incredible admiration from Henk - He was the one who pointed out on the first episode that it was a shame no one knew about Floor... Clearly he did.
yay! now we're back to Floor. I wish you could do a reaction video to "The Greatest Show on Earth live in Tampere with lyrics"
ohh yes we need this
I second this. In the meantime, both Julia Nilon and The Charismatic Voice have done just that, so while we wait.. :)
Oh yes, please
"Sounds like Symphonic Metal"
That is because this is the Nightwish arrangement, by Tuomas Holopainen, with Tarja and Marco singing originally:
ua-cam.com/video/tL25rbnvM4o/v-deo.html
And it's a full tone lower than what Sarah Brightman had to sing.
@@Nikioko wow really?
@Nikioko : So?
Some people seem to think that the higher you can sing the better you are, but that's not what music is about. I've heard Floor hit higher notes, so I know she can do it. I don't know why they changed the pitch, but it could be that this one is similar to the Nightwish version, so it's probably in the same key. Whatever the reason, it's really not that important.
I checked. It's in the same key as the Nightwish version indeed, so that's probably the reason why it's a whole step lower than the original.
Henk played Phantom in the Dutch version of the show and Jean Valjean in the Dutch version of Les Misérables: The Dream Cast in Concert.
The Nightwish version with Tarja in her yellow outfit singing with Marco is something you should look in to as well. They sound strangely good together
Yes yes yesyesyes
Dear Beth, Henk Poort was the Dutch Phantom a long time ago. That is why he sounded like the Phantom, he has also done something with 2 other Bariton's a rock thing back in the 90's there he also sang with distortion in his voice.
Henk is so awesome. He doesnt just sing, but act. When he demands "Sing my angel of music!" he has the absolute control over Floor. Even if she did not want to sing, she could not stop. She just had to, no matter what. Absolutely great work from both of them. I simply love it
Beth's face at the start of the song was like "omg, omg, omg, I'm going to love this". xD
Henk was and still is an awesome Phantom Of The Opera
their voices work so well together it always amazes me hearing them together.
I’ve been on a Floor reaction binge and my face is hurting from smiling 😅
The best line for sure was "Basically, She is a Queen". I loved that you finally reacted to this song. Amazing job. Keep it up!
Finaly you commented at this one. And it's the metal version.
If you want to hear Floor go full opera she's done " O Mio babbino caro" on a Dutch show. Or you can go with Floor and Simone Simon (Epica) in "Stabat mater Dolorosa" where Floor sings alto.
I love that O Mio Babbino Caro 🙂
YES.. i totally stumbled into that on
Just wanted to say you are excellent with your reactions and your breakdown of, honestly, every one I have seen you do.
So long waiting for this reaction! Thank you! Every time I see the performance I get goose bumps.
Henk Poort played Erik in the Dutch version of Phantom of the Opera.
And Floor... Yes, she is a queen!
Queen to D6, checkmate. Enjoyed the reaction. Henk played the phantom in the Dutch version and he learned how to sing with distortion just for this show and had never done it before then.
Henk, ALW's favorite phantom.
One thing to note about this. This is the Nightwish arrangement of the song. Nightwish covered this song on their 2002 album "Century Child", as well as performed it at their End of an Era show in 2004. So this performance comes full circle: The current singer for Nightwish, performing the song as arranged by Nightwish, with her idol and person who played the Phantom in the Dutch production of the musical (and Andrew Lloyd Webber's favorite Phantom).
Also, Henk said he would only perform it on the condition that he gets to perform it with Nightwish when they tour through the Netherlands. That show is still scheduled for Nightwish's next tour.
Henk was also THE phantom, in the dutch production. Andrew Lloyd Webber has said Henk is his favourite phantom, and I think that is the ultimate accolade!
He is a fully trained operatic baritone but can sing up into tenor, and Floor idolised him from when she was taken to see him in the phantom as a child, so actually getting to sing this with him was a dream come true for her. He, in turn, learned distortion techniques for this show to honour her genre, and his condition for performing this with her was to reprise the role with Nightwish the next time they play in The Netherlands, which has been agreed. Of course, that has been delayed, but I sincerely hope that when it does happen they will be recording it properly for all the fans that can't be there in person (is there even a venue in The Netherlands big enough to hold all the fans who would like to, if only they could afford to travel there? - I doubt it!).
She's a queen. We know it 😅. Henk Poort played the "Eric" role hundreds of times on Phantom's Dutch production. For me this is the Duet of the Century. Excellent singing and acting from these seasoned vocal heavyweights.
Nice react Beth.
Seen Floor at her solo show january this year.
Powerful, gracefully, passionate, emotional.
Blew me away and teared me up (65 y old bloke).
When she did this one with Henk Poort the roof went off, such power!
It's so nice to see that this video has been watched in other countries of the world. I'm Dutch and neither is this video of Floor Jansen and Henk Poort. I'm very proud of this🖤❤
As others have mentioned, Heck Poort was the original Phantom in the Dutch version of Phantom. If you decide to do any other songs from the 2019 Beste Zangers, I would recommend using the versions from jenniezelf's YT page. She has the intros and outros translated into Engish as well as the song.
There are so many wonderful songs from that season. I would highly recommend listening to Henk perform with Emma Heesters the same night as this performance. They did Vivo Per Lei, which may have been the best performance of the season.
Henk was ALW’s favourite Phantom
Heard the same, but couldn't come up with a quote/source. :-(
FINALLY someone who actually analysed the vocal techniques instead of just screaming how awesome it is!
In this song Floor really shows her broad education and skills :)
Excellent review as usual. I can't wait until you review her singing "Let It Go" from Frozen.
I smiled when you said she was like a queen. In fact, it was Queen to D6, check mate.
I always cringe when people use words they read elsewhere and write them down without credits to the original writer.
Well played, HenkY.
Henk Poort's rasp/fry/... at 5:37 ua-cam.com/video/cUw1O-0xfnM/v-deo.html was 100% intended ! As he said in the episode where he has sung "sound of silence" it is a "No-no-no" for opera singers and he isn't trained to sing like this. Because they are singing the Nightwish version it is a "MUST" but not as harsh as Marco would do it. Both made a deal - he'll sing it with her at Beste Zangers and she'll sing it with him at the next Nightwish concert in Netherlands.
And ... by the way ... Henk Poort was THE phantom of the opera in Netherlands for years.
This is exactly what I needed today
Amazing and powerful voices!
If you want to see a little bit "Uncle Henk": Check out his version of The sound of silence (he performs this song for Floor on Beste Zangers)....i would so like to see you reacting to this :)
Very very beautiful performance 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Henk’s rendition of The Sound of Silence from Beste Zangers is well worth a reaction.
Excellent review as usual. I can't wait until you review her singing "Let It Go" from Frozen.
Yeah. Evidently Freija has been watching Frozen and singing Let if Go for .. who knows how long . seems common with little girls!
I loved it, like all of Floor's songs - but don't you feel the mix was a little...off?
Her voice wasn't strong enough compared to the background
@@TheDoombrigade check the remastered version on the channel Nightwish Arena, he's made Floor louder in the mix.
ua-cam.com/video/Y3Waw73QJ5Y/v-deo.html
@@TheDoombrigade Her voice was low in the mix. It's the engineering rather than her voice. It needs boosting.
@@ChrisPage68
Exactly what I meant, perhaps I didn't phrase it well😅
I really want to hear them do the whole show
I love Henk's interpetation of the Disturbed version of the Sound of Silence from this show. It's the first time he's done any attempt at distortion in his voice, after only practicing it for a couple of hours. And to be honest it might even be better then the Disturbed version
Henk's rendition is my favorite of that song.
Yeah I wound up watching all of Beste Zangers. Floor got me into it, but Henk was excellent too.
is there anywhere I can watch the series with English captions?
@@13Nagash13, I think some of the uploads here on UA-cam have english subs. Look under the playback settings > CC (Closed Captions), look for English.

Hi Beth Henk had to learn distortion for his song Sound of Silence the Disturbed version and then he did it for this song.
I love this version. It's so nice seeing them have fun with it.
This music always gives me chills. I love it so much...
Yes finally a reaction of my favourite! Love Floor and Nightwish ❤
This was preformed in a thunderstorm with rain coming into the tent you can see the drops in the water beside them at the start dripping from a leaking canvas
Glad to see you back @Beth, or maybe I just watch only NW reacts and you havent done any for a while ;)
Greetings from Finland! It's been quite a while since my last visit to your channel, but like you, I couldn't resist anymore because you are reacting to this great live performance by Floor & Henk based on the Nightwish version of the song with Tarja Turunen & Marko Hietala on vocals.
Waited for this for soooo long!
Great reaction as usual
The reaction of the audience is amazing. Really enjoyed. And obviously, Floor is a queen, I have no words for the level she's performing. Love it.
Thanks for your comment. Floor is amazing and the audience is fantastic. I also love this song and I made a cover of Wicked Game on my channel. You can watch it here: ua-cam.com/video/7bAluPrWJxQ/v-deo.html . Please leave a like and a comment if you like it. 😘
How Floor was able to perform so well while seriously geeking out over her idol is truly crazy
This gives me chills every time...whew in a good way though...
Hi Beth! Your reactions and the way you explain the technical aspects are great! You should definitely listen to Scardust! Their singer, Noa Gruman, was a Floor Jansen's student. Her voice is totally out of this world!
No me esperaba esta reacción! Me encantó esta versión 😍
Henk is the Dutch Phantom and an opera singer
Henk performed the actual opera version I think over 600 times. Floor is a fan of his.
When Henk growls like Marco... Floor was shooketh.
Very smart reaction! Well done!!
Amazing! You took a long time to get to this one;)
Henk Poort is one of continental Europe's finest Phantoms. He is superbly trained and experienced. He added the distortion part of the performance for Floor, as he did when he covered Disturbed's Sound of Silence for her. This goes against his training, but he did so as a sign of respect to a fellow very talented performer.
"Basically she's a queen". Well put :)
Greetings from Iceland
I loved this one!!
I love how in some of your earlier Floor reaction vids you were completely surprised by her range and now you're all "Wait for it, its gonna happen"
i have seen Henk Poort play the Phantom in the musical in the Netherlands... His voice is PERFECT actually for this. Floor's voice is so incredibly good. She can sing almost anything. You should actually look at the other songs she did on this program.
Oh Beth, where have you been so long :):)
Thanks much!
you're funny, enthusiastic, your face speaks.. and witty ! 😁 keep on the good work !
Ah, this song continues to give me goosebumps from head to toe 💗🔥
Seen Henk perform as Phantom, as well as his stand-in Ben Cramer. Henk is fantastic, but I never thought that Ben would be able to be such a great Phantom as well.
i love beth roars
Great narrative. You really know your stuff. Keep it up !!
Beth is back. Hello, long time no see. Henk Poort is Andrew Lloyd Webber favourite Phantom.
And Floor is not a queen but a Goddess..
Glad to see you again.
Amazing voice for both of them. I like your voice also, I wouldn't mind hearing you sing more
Really enjoyed watching this with you. Can’t believe you waited so long to review it. You should check out the whole 2019 season of Beste Zangers. This was a moment in time.
ALW said in an interview that Henk is his favourite of all Phantoms :)
Henk was the original Phantom in the Dutch stage production, iirc.
As a male singer with a really low, heavy voice, I am in awe of just how high Henk Poort sings, and he does it so effortlessly! I'm so envious of men who can sing way up around the fourth octave G and A like it's just another day at the office for them, particularly with tones as dark as Henk's. Honestly, I've lost count of how many times I've listened to Floor and Henk have a musical geek-out, and I'll probably never get tired of it.
Finaly you did it thanks Beth
YOU HAVE TO DO A VIDEO ON HENK POORT NOW!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE DO HIS VERSION OF THE SOUND OF SILENCE!!!
Very nice and pleasantly brief and to the point analysis of this, by now already classic, masterful performance. Love the way you use your hands to illustrate the physical aspects of how Floor uses her voice while switching styles. To me, the sneak peek sequence on the thumbnail for the video made it look like you were your own sign-language interpreter. :)
Just a bit of extra info on Henk in addition to what's already been mentioned:
He is one of the most celebrated Phantoms and this was allegedly the first time that he distorted his voice, in honour of Floor for this special version.
Henk was the Phantom in the Netherlands
Henk was the phantom of the opera in 1993 :D
ROAR!!!
Note the squeal of glee in the beginning couple seconds
Whose squeal is it?
I love you! 💖
Floor is just not of this world......she is living proof that angels are truly beings of music and light.
Thanks Beth, that was insightful! I hope you'll find some reasons to return to Floor in her role as soloist e.g. in The Beste Zangers versions or in the legendary showpieces from Nightwish, like Poet and the Pendulum. And if you want something in between: from their last album an acoustic version of the song "How's the Heart", just with Troy on guitar. You'll find her "properly challenged" as she said, in staccato singing and a very unusual melody line. The composition is so heartwarming, the rendition so sweet and touching... likely to bring a little tear.
doubtless you've received as a result of this, requests for Nightwish's version of Phantom, featuring their 1st lead vocalist Tarja from the "End of an Era" live dvd. if you recall your reaction to "Ghost River" and the bassist Marco's singing. i think you'll be quite impressed with his portrayal of The Phantom.
There is a even newer/ better? version from Amsterdam with Nightwish/Floor/ Henk . From Ziggo dome 2023 Amsterdam. Greetings from NWaSE Sweden
Henk took lessons to learn growl technique for this performance.
Wowzers 😳 Ducking 🦆 Chill bumps!
Henk played Erik in the original Dutch production of "Phantom of the Opera".
Henk Poort is a Bariton a Opera singer from the Netherlands
At 5:39, Floor’s and your reactions to Henk’s voice are what everyone felt during this song
just a little bit more personal, but i love you reacting ans enjoying the music, you're pure i love that! keep up the good work
This is a great version, you should check out the Tarja/Marko live version
