The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is starting to get recognition as somewhat of a eccentric masterpiece, and one day I believe this will go down as Murray's greatest performance, even more so than in LIT.
alexxxandder Yes and No. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is Wes Anderson and Bill Murray…Not only one of them. There is a clear and wide bridge between the Wes and Murray brigade. This movie is a-fucking great film!!!
This is a great list, but then you mentioned "What About Bob" I'm probably in the minority, but I'd definitely rank that better than "Lost in Translation" Both great films, though.
His character in "The Razor's Edge" was very moving to me personally. In fact, I don't think I'll ever forget it, and it's probably my personal #1 Bill Murray Character, next to the Lost in Translation and Rushmore.
when I was in college I had What About Bob on repeat in my VCR it would play the whole movie through and then rewind and start playing again everyday that movie was playing in my room whether I was in class or Not What About Bob is top of the charts comedy
For me, Groundhog day is the best movie ever made. The story, the message plus Bill's and Andie's performance and chemistry... WOW, it all came together 25 years ago, hats off and respect to all who made that movie. Oh yeah, and THANKS :-)
Some buddies of mine were at a McDonalds and Bill Murray came in and after he ordered he went over to them grabbed a hand full of their fries and said "No ones ever going to believe you" and walked off.
He had a son who played us in football back in highscool and Bill came to the game. Some of the team went to McDonald's after to eat and that's when it happen. I wasn't there but I really want to believe it lol
Nice job with this. People can argue the order and the films (What About Bob?) but this showed the breadth of his work. One of the great actors of his generation. He connects with everyone. And he's done it with no agent. How freaking cool is that?
Lost in Translation is a masterpiece. Coppola is a subtle sorceress with a keen eagle eye. Life Aquatic is equally impressive where then story itself becomes a dynamic and gravitational character.
Razor's Edge is definitely one of my favorite Bill Murray roles, he is a character in a sad sullen position, but his subtle presence makes what could be an insufferable and depressing movie into an amazing film.
Here's my list. Not in order of my favorite movies, just his best performances. 1. Groundhog Day 2. Lost in Translation 3. Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou 4. Broken Flowers 5. Rushmore 6. Meatballs 7. Caddyshack 8. Stripes 9. Ghostbusters 10. Kingpin
Yes. I kind of agree with this.Especially Ghostbusters. It's not like one of the best movies of all time oranything. Groundhog Day and Lost in Translation and Rushmore are miles better in my opinion. The performance in Life Aq, is also better although I didn't love the mvoie. Haven't seen Broken Flowers. Plan on it.
12 - Broken Flowers 11- St. Vincent 10 - The Man Who Knew Too Little 09 - Tootsie 08 - What About Bob 07 - Meatballs 06 - Stripes 05 - Scrooged 04 - Rushmore 03 - Lost In Translation 02 - Caddyshack 01 - Ghostbusters
Honorable Mentions Quick Change Kingpin Groundhog Day Moonrise Kingdom The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou Osmosis Jones Razor's Edge Where The Buffalo Roam Wild Things Zombieland
What About Bob? is one of his most interesting roles. He's not being a smartass, he's playing a big-eyed idiot with so much energy. ANYONE else in the role would have been annoying, but he and Richard Dreyfuss have perfect comedic chemistry.
***** AMEN!!! Most under-rated comedy ever!!! Bob on Good Morning America: "It's not just this book. It's this man. It's the wisdom, it's the compassion, it's the... HORSE-SENSE of the guy that gets you!"
my top 5 05. francis xavier cross - scrooged 04. john winnger - stripes 03. phil connors - groundhog day 02. peter venkman - ghostbusters 01. carl spackler - caddyshck
Funny thing is, his role in "Caddyshack" was supposed to be played by a Vietnam war vet, but the war vet suffered from such bad PTSD that he couldn't remember his lines, so Harold Ramis got Bill in to play Carl Spackler instead. Bill got his part filmed within six days, and with the exception of one line spoken to Danny Noonan, every line of his was ad-libbed.
Holly Brooke which line? Not being anal or tying to put you off... I think comedians or actors who play comedic roles almost exclusively are truly tallented geniuses, I'd go so far as to say a "Sage" of modern Life. To see humor in all facets of life is to be a forward thinker.
I just saw What About Bob? for the first time in 25 years when it was released, and the humor still holds up. Quick Change is a very underrated film. St. Vincent is very good. I met Bill at the Kennedy Center Mark Twain Awards. I shook his hand (would rather than hugged and kissed him) and blurted out, "Congratulations! I love you." It was a thrilling moment!
@@anandadaquino3604 Ananda, I just watched it again a few weeks ago and, I was still laughing the entire film. I think he was brilliant in it and, the writing was great. Of course, I have never seen it in Portuguese but, I think I would still laugh.
One of the best actors of all time ,And also loved all his movies an they helped me tune in to a large perception . IT'S HARD for some to try an understand changes with deep thought, understanding of such things on topics .....
um... yeah, i really gotta vent on this one. i know that Dr. Venkman is far and away the most *iconic,* but his role in *_Lost in Translation...._* it's almost peerless in modern film. that moment when he's handed his jacket by Johanson, and he glumly re-assumes his old life, returning his gaze to the fawning staff at the hotel is one of the saddest, most REAL acting moments i've seen. he really, REALLY deserved that fucking oscar tm
I love # The Man who knew too little # I re-watch it regularly and it still makes me laugh out loud. So that's this Saturday's popcorn movie sorted right there.... and I'm already laughing in anticipation of my favourite bits.
I still can't believe how little attention The Razor's Edge got. Bill Murray did a fantastic job, and is absolutely, bar none, his most under appreciated.
You're right. These are all good, but I can think of at least half a dozen more off the top of my head. Quick Change & The Man Who Knew Too Little are usually overlooked.
In many ways, it IS a better movie than Johnny Depp's enactment of Gonzo in FEAR & LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS. For one, we get to see Bill Murray exercise his comedic chops before Caddyshack & Stripes hit theaters. We get to see Bill semi-channel Dr. Hunter S. Thompson by being himself (Bill can't help being Bill) while always having a drink in his hand, by discharging a fire extinguisher aboard a filled airplane (thank Janus it was still waiting to taxi) & by threatening a ringing telephone with a loaded revolver. Also, we get to see a very emotional Rene Auberjonois on LSD. And we get to experience Peter Boyle at his craziest as he assaults a prosecutor in court, hides out from the government & smuggles weapons south of the border. WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM is my favorite Bill Murray vehicle for these & a few other very good reasons. Who DOESN'T love Bill Murray when he's being ridiculously antisocial?!
Yeah, you forgot "Lil Shop o' Horrors", he's only 1 min. on a screen w Steve Martin, but it will over weigh many actors' entire career. I watched that scene hundreds times, but every time I laugh hysterically,,,
Bill Murray....put any of his roles in that top 10 . ... the man is not only a comic genius, but he's an enthralling actor. One of the great talents of his generation.
I noticed that you didn't add his cameo appearance in the 1986 musical movie, Little Shop of Horrors. That was a great performance by Bill Murray in that one, even if it was only brief.
Bill Murray is simply the best. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is starting to get recognition as somewhat of a eccentric masterpiece, and one day I believe this will go down as Murray's greatest performance, even more so than in LIT.
I don't know.. lost in translation is pretty deep. They're both amazing and so under rated.
It's a very entertaining and underrated movie.
But, without a doubt, it will never be seen as Murray's best movie/character. At least I hope not.
alexxxandder Yes and No. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is Wes Anderson and Bill Murray…Not only one of them. There is a clear and wide bridge between the Wes and Murray brigade.
This movie is a-fucking great film!!!
what about bob is the best
Must be #11 ah ha ha
Meatballs is good too
I was bob for halloween and I had a fish and my mom was groundhog day and my sis was anime and my dad was I forgot :(
You're missing 'What About Bob?' :(

They're also missing Bill Murray from Zombieland XD
Watchmojo is definitely missing some greatest on some subjects...What About Bob? is one of the bests
LloydonII yea I think zombie land is my favorite
This is a great list, but then you mentioned "What About Bob" I'm probably in the minority, but I'd definitely rank that better than "Lost in Translation" Both great films, though.

Did none of you ever see Murray in WILD THINGS; easily his greatest performance, he is stunningly hilarious! Greatest shyster lawyer ever!!!
Some buddies of mine were at a McDonalds and Bill Murray came in and after he ordered he went over to them grabbed a hand full of their fries and said "No ones ever going to believe you" and walked off.
Blake Richa93 Cereal?!
He had a son who played us in football back in highscool and Bill came to the game. Some of the team went to McDonald's after to eat and that's when it happen. I wasn't there but I really want to believe it lol
+Blake Richa93 .....Get out! ..you serious??....
boxingfit
They should have called the cops since Bill stole their french fries, lol!
+drServitis that is a class story ...peace
Nice job with this. People can argue the order and the films (What About Bob?) but this showed the breadth of his work. One of the great actors of his generation. He connects with everyone.
And he's done it with no agent. How freaking cool is that?
Even his cameo in Zombieland was classic. Not big enough to make the top 10, but deserves an honourable mention!
Q: Any regrets?
A: “Heathcliff, I guess….”
Brilliant
Bill Murray as Hercules on SNL. Impossible to find a clip and so outrageously hilarious!!!!!!
GREAT TOP 10 BILL MURRAY PERFORMANCES !!!
Bill Murray is really funny in Caddyshack. Why can't he catch that dang gopher!!!!
They nailed it with the top 3 - Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day & Caddyshack
The Man Who Knew Too Little....Classic Bill Murray, and perhaps some of the best writing of it's time.
Lost in Translation is a masterpiece. Coppola is a subtle sorceress with a keen eagle eye. Life Aquatic is equally impressive where then story itself becomes a dynamic and gravitational character.
It may have been a very small side role. But his performance in the Dentist scene in "Little Shop of Horrors" is honestly perfect.
I typed out a whole lot of "You missed Tripper, or Bob, or whatever...", but this should have been a top 20 list!
Razor's Edge is definitely one of my favorite Bill Murray roles, he is a character in a sad sullen position, but his subtle presence makes what could be an insufferable and depressing movie into an amazing film.
Groundhog Day is not only Murray's best performance but also quite possibly the best Romantic Comedy ever! :-D
Groundhog Day is a classic, I'm glad that it was in the top 5 region of this list.
Groundhog Day... LOVE it!
Lost in translation is a favorite of mine and Bill's favorite film he ever did.
I'm so glad this video exists.

Marisa Jo Merliss Well usually you express yourself, you give your opinion, you can't judge it unless you're fucking Kubrick
Thank you so much for having The Life Aquatic on this list. Great Movie and Great Performance
"What About Bob?" should've been on here. Otherwise, good list.
"The Man Who Knew Too Little" is one of the best comedic films ever too.
DITTO!
WHAT ABOUT BOB. IS THE BEST
200% what about Bob
What about Bob was his best movie ever
Bill Murray is a legend
What About Bob? is one of his most interesting roles. He's not being a smartass, he's playing a big-eyed idiot with so much energy. ANYONE else in the role would have been annoying, but he and Richard Dreyfuss have perfect comedic chemistry.
Incredible oversight. Bob Wiley = the GOAT.
Thank you SO much for putting Ghostbusters at #1. :D
His role in the remake of "The Razors Edge" ranks up there with my favorites. Even when he plays a serious role his funny side shows itself.
Great list! He's my favorite.
Bill Murray as Hunter S. Thompson in Where the Buffalo Roam should at least be in the top five.
Ghost Buster and Stripes are my faves going to have to look up the rest and hope I can find in the library
How could you forget, WHAT ABOUT BOB??
i was wondering that too. That's my favorite Bill Murray movie :)
***** AMEN!!! Most under-rated comedy ever!!! Bob on Good Morning America: "It's not just this book. It's this man. It's the wisdom, it's the compassion, it's the... HORSE-SENSE of the guy that gets you!"

Joe Ace I SAIL! I SAIL!
I'll almost guarantee you the joke about Neil Diamond was improvized.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Murray!
I simply can't believe no one has mentioned "The Razor's Edge".
Good movie highly underrated!
Which was his first dramatic role, but this channel is not renowned for its thorough research.
He only agreed to do "Ghostbusters" after the studio said they'd fund Razor's Edge.
I still can't believe how little attention The Razor's Edge got. Bill Murray did a fantastic job, and is absolutely, bar none, his most under appreciated.
One of my favorite movies, much less Bill Murray movies, of all time.
I loved him in ....
where the Buffalos roam.
He was super funny and amazing as the late great, Hunter s Thompson
WHAT ABOUT BOB!?!?!?!
"I don't get that close to the glass till I'm on the floor."
+Aj Dembroski "What About Bob" is far better than about half the ones that made this list. The fact that they forgot that movie is ridiculous
Lost in Translation! I just watched that. Yeah, good stuff.
My idol. One of the all time greats of satire
Let's be real his 2 best performances are in Rushmore and Lost In Translation
Night on earth.
Brilliant.
Three words: What About Bob?
Great list! Bill Murray is one of my favorite actors. Hope to run into him someday, so I have a marvelous Bill story like his many other fans.
There's too many to list. Little Shop Of Horrors?
I was waiting for that to be on the list.
+Wawagirl17 same
I know right, his scene in that movie was the best thing about it
You're right. These are all good, but I can think of at least half a dozen more off the top of my head. Quick Change & The Man Who Knew Too Little are usually overlooked.
irish1209 yeah and it was the best because i saw my to favourite actors together :Steve Martin and Bill Murray
I love Groundhog day! It's so Good. A classic.😁😃
Where the Buffalo Roam?!
That movie, dare I say, is almost a better Hunter S. Thompson film than Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas...
Hunter S. Quick Change with Randy Quaid and Geana Davis is terrific.
This is a forgotten classic!
GREAT!!!!
SCROOGED FOREVER!!!!
No Bob Wiley in What About Bob? That in my opinion was his best role!
Me too. I loved him in that movie
#1 for me is Lost In Translation, one of the best acting performances i've ever seen.
Tootsie!
"It is about the work, right? I mean, it's not just so you can dress up in these little outfits?"
Spot on!
I liked him in "What About Bob?", though I guess I can understand why that performance didn't make the list.
That's what I thought: "No "What About Bob"?? I thought it would be #1.
Brian Glenn Nolf You're joking...right?
Karen Fahel shut up, i thought it would be #1 too. What about Bob is my favorite with Bill Murray
Bill Murray....put any of his roles in that top 10 . ... the man is not only a comic genius, but he's an enthralling actor. One of the great talents of his generation.
What about Bob? is one of my all time favorites.
he also had an amazing moment in Monuments Men.
Steve Zissou is nº1!
'What about Bob' is one his most hilarious roles, why is not on the list?
Bill Murray is BOSS!!
Yeah... what about "What about Bob"..
Holy Cow, you left out... "WHAT ABOUT BOB!! Pure genius!
I noticed that you didn't add his cameo appearance in the 1986 musical movie, Little Shop of Horrors. That was a great performance by Bill Murray in that one, even if it was only brief.
His role in St. Vincent was cool too, typical chill Bill Murray
I think the people have spoken! What About Bob should have been on this list!!
Ghostbusters is obviously Number 1 😁 I Love Bill Murray performance in Groundhogs Day The Most though 😁
I think we all knew before watching what would be number one...
Actually, I thought it would have been "Groundhog Day", from the way critics talk. Glad I was wrong.
Karen Fahel just started vid. Woulda gave it to groundhog day too
