    I'm 38 now, and I am very brand-loyal; when I find something I love I tend to stick with it. One of the problems I have had over the years is that running shoe brands change their design styles every few years, including my beloved Adidas (which is all I used to wear) switching to a "more for-looks than performance" quality. I have a high arch and long, narrow foot with prominent heel, which tears up the insides of shoes like Nike and New Balance, and so I've discovered Brooks (especially the Brooks Launch) which is the only shoe that seems to measure up. I feel like now when I find one that is great for my feet I go ahead and buy two pairs for fear that they will discontinue and change the design in a year or two. Is anyone else frustrated with this tendency of the shoe business??

    Great advice on what works for one person doesn't work for another. I've worked in the Specialty running shoe business for 14 years & see so many that will come in say my friend, family member or co-worker said they purchased Brooks, Saucony or Altra's and they love them & I want to try them. Sometimes they leave with the brand they had in mind, sometimes a different one. I always advocate at least trying one or two others to at least reiterate what you came for is best, or you may find another make/model works better for you. Great video sir- nice job

    I couldn’t agree more on changing up the shoe rotation. I think it is one of the single most important things you can do to avoid injury (even slipping in a minimalist shoe once in awhile). I wish I had knew this much earlier when I would perpetually injure myself with bad form, poor core strength and wearing the same shoes run after run.

    This was helpful, thanks! Currently looking for a new pair of shoes and I thought, for once, I would inform myself before I choose a new pair.

    Very sensible advice, thanks! I've been running in very light-weight minimalist shoes for a year (up to half marathon), it has turned me from a heel striker into a midfoot striker. Last month, I bought some Adidas Ultraboosts, and they're soooo soft :-) So now I have 2 pairs to rotate, preparing for my first marathon. I'll probably wear the softer shoes on race day.

    Great video! As a road marathoner for the past 5 years, I'm always looking for new shoes to help me reach my goals. Funny to find this video as I just posted a video on How to buy your first pair of running shoes! This post is very informational. As a fellow UA-camr and reviewer, I love sharing my experiences and knowledge as well. I know how much goes into these videos! Keep posting - I just subscribed!

    Yeah, in principle it's all true but people (me included) also have some certain disbalance (skeletal or muscular) which will in a way affect the type of shoe they want to wear within the broad categories you have discussed. There's high/low drop and neutral/support shoes. The best way to go about it is to find a shop where they can have a look at how you run (usually a camera mounted on a treadmill + computer)
    and recommend the best shoe for you.

    Thanks for the video Jason! What's better for a track workout (amateur road runner here): spikes or flat road shoes? Thanks!

    Is it a mistake if I bought running shoes for heel strike running pattern and I'm a forefoot runner?
    Had my first run with Nimbus 24 today and it feels odd and uncomfortable under my forefoot.

    Can you rotate the same make/model shoe- but a different pair? I have not found anything better for me than the Bondi 6. Would it be beneficial to run in a different pair on alternate days?

    • @romanbenedit8190
      @romanbenedit8190 4 роки тому +1

      Yes, you can try Rincon or Clifton . I use Bondi 6 for long easy runs ( 10 + miles ) and Rincons are good middle of the road. I use those for speed but also for long and short easy runs.

    Not everyonecwill tespondvto trackvshoes for track. Spikes up-to 800m and then no longer benefits withbspikes. 1500m 50%aerobic 50%anaerobic. Hold one one works for ultras as your not going that fast and don't want to. Lots of cushion. Minimalist for ultras is crazy.. I've used justcabout every shoe that exists.. Eavecshie from Brooks Nike ghosts, saucing minimalist, vibrant, adidas, northstars. Really loved those. Rubber spike soles and hard plastic soles.. Not so got gets real hot.

    Do the light up shoes make you faster?

    So, if I have a pair of trail shoes for my weekly trail run, a pair of shoes for regular road work and a third pair for faster work outs, is that enough “rotation”?

    So you broke the first mistake you mention runners make by not retiring a shoe when it's shot. I'm also no expert coach, but I've never been one for the rotation theory. Just buy one pair, do all the variety of runs you want and then replace it when the outsole wears out or the upper disintegrates. Perhaps I'm lucky but I run every day in one pair and have never been injured (15 years).

    WHAT ABOUT BARE FOOT SHOES

  • @yeeyoh
    @yeeyoh 4 роки тому +1

    First up, all this talk about running shoes and not having running shoes to match the surface, or type of surface you are running on is just another video. Which on UA-cam is great because who doesn't like a new video in their subscription box in the middle of summer. Now about Nike FreeRuns, I'm so glad you showed the rocks in the bottom of the shoes. I was very lucky to get a pair of free runs 5.0, this was a while ago..I'm 53 years old, and very quickly I noticed while running, walking in parks there were rocks getting stuck up in the "grooves" of these sneakers. Very quickly they got relegated to walks along the "Old Port," in Montreal, where I Live, and a few other places in the City...and the Island with the Expo GeoDome.
    Anyway I think your video covered all that... Perhaps if you are a running couch you don't want to say the things you know about running in all the finest detail on a UA-cam but you have had videos about running surfaces before, or at least about distances which of course would make someone like me think of surfaces, Inclines, Declines, all the weird little twists and turns a person has to do to keep __________. Well anyway there are a lot of Runners and Cyclist and all sorts of Sporty people in Montreal from Older than me Olympic skaters skating in Ponds to people who never competed doing very "excellent," runs.
