Fine example of a Colt revolver. I have the same Set up with pachmayr grips on my Detective Special. Just a blast to shoot. Thanks for sharing your range session with us. 🤙🏻
Good review. I have a similar one from 1978. I own quite a few revolvers and this Colt is right up there in my top 5 favorites. I also love my J frames but the Colt DS is a class above them.
I completely agree with you. I have a few J-frames and I like how small they are but the DS is a much better quality. I have a S&W Model 10 snub nose that is very close in quality and smoothness to the DS, but it’s a K frame so A tiny bit bigger.
@@crankygunreviews I’m trying to decide whether to purchase a S&W Model 10 round butt snubby, or a Colt DS. Since you have both, what are your thoughts on that?
@@permanenceaesthetic6545 model 10 is a more rugged gun. I wanted the Colt because of prestige and my TV hero had one- the Model 10 is a better shooter, and not as finicky, and still under warranty. The DS as I have heard can get out of time if you shoot it a lot, they cost a lot right now, and you need a special colt gunsmith to work on them. They’re great guns, but Smiths are my favorite revolvers, and always will be
If you have issues with the casings stopping the barrel it only happens with reloads mine I use Winchester or Remington Ammo n did not have any issues whatsoever very accurate revolver I suggest using speed loaders too lessens reload time !
judging from the recoil I see those wadcutters are a little warm. wadcutters are good for self defense. you have a very good self defense revolver. I know, I have a good number of them. LOVE COLTS.
remanufactured ammo is always a coin toss. maybe start reloading. or buy by the case. or both. and no wadcutters are supposed to do that to the gun. I always shoot them but I buy by the case. DO NOT bob the hammer, keep it this way, trust me on that. get another if you want to do that.
If those Pachmayrs were put on in the factory, your gun was made in 93, 94 or 95. I have one made 1994. I bought it lightly used back then. Colt had a limited run for those years. Colt has a number to call and they will tell you when it was made if you don't know. Mine's beautiful too and goes to the range once in awhile.
I think the serial on mine dates to 82. They could have been put on anytime after it was sold too, but they say colt not Pachmayr which is cooler to me.
I was shooting reloads, and the way the front of the shell was crimped, it was hanging up on the cylinder frame. So after I shot one or two rounds, the shell was actually dragging on the frame of the revolver, and it was not allowing the cylinder to index properly
Bob the hammer. Makes it a much better carry revolver. No snag at all. Shoot DA anyway. Value of the gun doesn't matter it's yours. I've sold several revolvers with bobbed hammers. I tell the buyers how this improved the gun. Nice Colt sir.
I just found a 1965 version, my first ever Colt and a find addition to my snubby collection.
A fine revolver. You won’t be sorry.

I’ll get better video when it’s a warmer sunnier day. Forgot my tripod today
Beautiful snub. Congrats!
Thanks! It’s smooth as butter!!

Love those grips
They work good, but I prefer the look of wood better- I’m old school 😎
slick !
thanks for sharing!
I've been looking for a mid 80's example for a few years now.
Last gun a want for my collection.
There’s always a last want for me :)

I agree I only had issues with reloads. I have speedloaders of this now, I did not when I shot this video. Loading slow can be relaxing too
Lucky dude. I’ve ALWAYS wanted one of those. Go out and burn powder my friend.
It was a long time dream, I’m happy I got it. Not cheap, but I now understand why they’re so expensive.
I have one that was made in 1982, had it for about 4 years now and still have not shot it. It's practically new.
It’s so nice, don’t make it a safe queen, shoot it
Smooth as butter!! Just need more ammo to shoot all day long.
I have a fair amount of .38 but it’s hard to replace, so that’s why I was shooting reloads. Not happy they were hanging up though.

They may have been warm, they were reman ammo.
I agree, reman ammo is always a risk… I’m not bobbing the hammer, this sucker was too expensive

Mines the exact same and mine is 1980.
At 3:13 what did not work?

What's the problem with your gun
What are you referring to? The cylinder hanging up?
@@crankygunreviews yes
@@yupiboon9003 it was the wad cutters I was shooting. The shells were hanging up after shooting a couple. Factory 38 loads run 100%

I have thought about bobbing it. But I like having the hammer. I don’t carry this much, I’d rather keep it as is
No way man, why on heavens earth would you ever take away an option to shoot your firearm! That’s just F’ing stupid!
