I don't speak English nor other languages, but sharing the memory and experience of this game with a lot of people almost all over the world. That's wonderful.
I'm 34 now and remember scrounging up nickles and dimes from my piggy bank to give to my mom for her to buy me FF6 (aka FF3) as soon as it was released. I *barely* had enough for the $60, but then she gave me a harsh reality... now I have to pay sales tax! My mom waived the tax though. It was the best $60 I've ever spent; I still have the original cartridge, and ironically it's still $60 on Ebay. At the time, I had about a 5th grade reading level, and couldn't understand all the words (esp. when Locke was saying Terra had "amnesia." I had no clue, lol.) Even then, I loved FF6, and replayed it multiple times, and I'm absolutely convinced all those SNES RPG's improved my reading and spelling skills in school. Back in the SNES days, there was no voice acting; you had to read literally everything. I hated books, but I loved RPG's. You just can't capture the feeling of a good RPG in any other form of media.
I'm with ya, video games helped teach me how to read too! My mom would play Zelda 2 and Link to the Past withr me and her reading all the dialogue helped me learn to read pretty quickly at a young age before I even got into Pre-school!
Gabriel Simoes Time goes on. I has feels for FF7, cu'z I'm more into Industry than Fantasy. FF6 is a really great game tho I got bored with it after 3 hour game play.
@Ethon Wilmot Hey, I am pretty sure there are other ways to play those games without needing the Game Pass. I don't have a console, but aren't there emulators for SNES, PSX games, in Xbox? You might just need to find a place for the ROMs, I believe.
It was remarkable how Square was able to make characters you genuinely cared about. For example, I was actually really sad to hear about Gau's backstory and see the part of the game where the world of balance gets messed up.
Stuck in my head since I heard my dad play this on the wii. I finally got to play it myself when he got me the snes classic on Christmas. Why is this game not remembered as much as ff7? My dad even said the story and characters were better.
Nobuo Uematsu is such an underrated genius. The songs he made have always inspired my life since I was a kid. This song, in particular, is probably my favorite, the strongest of them all, because it's tense, sad, somber, but also uplifting, hopeful, calling you to figut back. It's just amazing what you could do with just 16 bits...
The game that introduced me to fully fleshed-out role playing. Amazing music, story, and artwork. It was also the first final fantasy game I ever played.
I may be young, but I grew up with this game and have played it countless times. From being a clueless kindergartener to an adult with a job, I love this game and it's story still Going to be playing it once again now that the pixel remaster is out
This overworld theme is so stoic. With it's military cadence and flute. Firmly rooted in the minor key so it has a wistful but determined quality. It reminds me a lot of Cid's theme from FFVII. Just a classic. One of the best ever. Uematsu in his absolute prime here. The music, story and character development has me coming back playing FFVI every few years. Just like reading Lord of the Rings.
Can’t believe this game will celebrate its 30th birthday this year! Came out when I was 11…perfect age to enjoy this game…now I’m 41! Where did the time go!
Arguably the best overworld theme of all time. Perfectly encapsulates the desperation the team faces as they race to stop Kefka from ruining the world.
Incorrect. Emperor Gestahl is the person they are trying to stop around the time this theme plays. (World of Balance) This theme stops being played after Kefka is revealed to have a hidden agenda and sends the world to ruin and they don't even chase after him then since he's patiently waiting on top of his tower. What a badass!
Cloud Strife Oops, you're right. I haven't played this game since high school and I've forgotten a lot about the plot. Anyway, I still really like the theme!
I was introduced to Final Fantasy through FF14, which I felt does an excellent job of reimagining old themes from previous entries. It encouraged me to go try out FF6 because my friends kept talking about what an underrated entry it is. I gave it a try on an emulator a few months ago and I wasn't able to finish it because I just simply didn't vibe with the gameplay, but this theme really stuck with me. Then I get on the Magitek Reaper mount in FF14 one day with my mount music turned on and I heard a rearrangement of this theme. I was in a voice chat with some friends at the time and I nearly started choking up. That's how good this theme is.
My first gaming experience was Final Fantasy 6, on my Game Boy Advance, when I was only 4 years old. Thank you Square Enix, for helping it make me the person I am today, a 17 year old League addict.
The SNES's sound chip was insane, wasn't it? I mean it was able to get such fantastic output without being a full sound processor for its day. I think we take modern sound design in games for granted. These days, it's where the best tech goes, and you can get away with using a fragment of its capability for any project. Back in the old days though? They had to do the best they could with what they had. And they squeezed every last bit of potential out of it.
@@swishfish8858 Exactly. The technological set back forced creators to be more creative with their work/art, something I feel is severely lacking in modern games.
I use to just listen to the song for a good long while before heading up to the floating continent….knowing I wouldn’t hear this song again for the rest of the game!😢
I think it was the summer of 1995 that my dad got a $100 bonus at work. We went to FuncoLand back then and he bought Final Fantasy 3, Chrono Trigger, and Earthbound at the same time.

I always prefer RPGs with 2d graphics. They just feel more magical. Once Pokemon (the last good 2d rpg franchise) went 3d, the games started to suck. I still have many 2d RPGs left out there to enjoy, and I'm currently playing through this and FF1. But one day, all those good rpg games will be done and over with, what will I do then..
I'm 19 and am playing this game for the first time ever, I only got into the series this year Edit: finished it and it's one of the best games I have ever played
7 was amazing. 8 is an acquired taste. 9 was fantastic. 10 was also really good. 11 was an mmo so it doesn't count. 12 was basically like a singleplayer mmo. 13 is the only one that was truely even remotely close to being "trash"
+OperationDEEZ Funny... I found that I could never get it out of my head! I guess that's what happens when you listen to it for hours on end every day!
You know, this song would be great if I didn’t only hear the first three seconds without being attacked.
Nah, for songs like this, you ought to stand still and listen to its complete beauty.
Use Locke with steal
Yeah random encounters totally destroy this song on regular basis. What a shame. Would've been so fun to travel with this song.
Once I got to world of ruin tho it did it for me as great as this one is world of ruin is next level
There are multiple items that reduce or eliminate random encounters. I only found them to be excessive in dungeons.
Never in my life have I ever heard a song that's both so uplifting, and yet, so somber at the same time.

Greatest overworld theme of the series
Arguably the best overworld theme of all time.
This one is awesome, but i guess FFIV overworld wins by a little :)
+StageLined The overworld themes from the Zelda games are better imo.
I like FF IV's theme more as well.
M_Dutch97 Comparing Final Fantasy and Zelda is like comparing pizza and pasta. Both are delicious dishes in their own right and there's no comparison.
I like FF2’s overworld theme. This one and that are probably my two favorites.
The things I have learned with this game, the characters, the morals... People have no idea how we miss games like these nowadays..
