So true. I remember visiting the states and to them what is simply ‘friendliness’ and ‘good customer service’ seems disingenuous, suspicious, sometimes it’s even creepy to people from the UK. We aren’t accustomed to being treated almost like a friend by someone who is just doing their job. We know you’d rather be doing something else, you know you’d rather be somewhere else, so let’s just cut the pleasantries; not because we don’t appreciate kindness, it’s just that we know it’s probably a performance and worse still, it’s a performance they are forced into. We talk with shop staff, sure, become regulars in some places. You don’t treat customers poorly, but you also aren’t expected to put on a smile every single day and pretend that you love your job 24/7.

Must be my gym too, not that I'm complaining the weights left out when I want to use them next are small (pussies) so the positive is I get to start my warm up set without loading!
I've been to one of these gyms, the number 1 problem is that it's to busy. If you want to do chest at peak time forget it. I pay twice as much now but I can do what I want when I want.
1) Clearly a cultural difference! I love going in not having to speak to a single person train mind my own business. I would hate if people talked and asked me how my day was I literally just come to train. Staff are friendly.
Lads hog the weights area whilst on their phones at my local. Dumbbells strewn all over the place and have to wonder around looking for plates. Can totally agree with things being left out too.
I recently joined and intend leaving again. It was the 24 hour access that attracted me. But, their model is similar to the "Stack them high and sell them cheap" supermarket idea. Unless you go in at 5am, its absolutely rammed. 4pm - 6pm is full of school kids, as is Saturday and Sunday. Very hard to get on a treadmill most times and it seems something is always broken from overuse. I am going to go back to my "mid-range" gym where they need less members to be viable. A lot of people predicted the death of the mid-range independent gym, but I can now see why they're making a great comeback.
i go puregym and i find the fact you dont need to speak to anyone like ever pretty good, the machines being weird and weights being out sometimes (literally never when i go) is like the only downside and maybe the price but they've lowered it to like £20 and for 24/7 active gym come anytime its not bad
What drives me insane is people be sitting down occupying a machine and texting, when they can just stand up and rest in between sets. And you can't ask people every time to get up, sometimes you're gonna sound rude.
Firewater converse are the perfect squat and deadlift etc shoes but you wouldn’t use that because people like you only use bicycle machines and stuff and then leave
the ONLY thing people put back is the dumbbells, i constantly see staff running after people trying to put things back (that's the only thing i have to say about the people, also i'm English). Another thing i hate is there are 4 locations in my city which one of is located in thy centre, that one gets the most traction yet they choose not to upgrade the equipment there, but the locations that gets quarter the amount of people compared to the city centre one gets new equipment???
Pure gym in england is actually the best gym just puch your code in do your workout has showers in the changing room and good locker rooms and punch the code in and go home nothing wrong with it
Peak privilege from Austin here, we can’t all afford premium gyms with lots of staff and top notch equipment. Pure gym does the job if you’re on a budget.
Just going to move to puregym as my current gym is £54pm from the sounds of it you would love that gym it has manned reception and a protein/coffee shop as well as doing healthy quick food too, it's a brilliant gym but puregym is doing an opening 6 month offer at £14pm and I only really use weights and machine so the spa sauna and pool are a wasted on us. it's not a culture thing to leave your stuff laying around, just inconsiderate people. I prefer no front desk but I definitely want staff on hand incase needed though even better if they can offer advice ect.
There's a front desk at my pure gym. No gym always put weights away n it's not the gyms fault. It's the people who use them. The rack you showed is for squats. Not bent over row. I pay £10.99. I recommend them highly.

Some of these comments are hilarious. He's not an example of American privilege; he's looking for common courtesy in a public space. Unfortunately society as a whole doesn't think about anyone but themselves, even when they're in a crowded gym at 6pm.
There's a difference between common courtesy and privilege, you're right, but that doesn't mean that he is any less wrong. The cost is high, and in my pure gym is also really messy. The amount of times I've come into the gym and found deadlift bars with at least 100kg on just waiting for someone to clean up. It's inconvenient. However, the UK is much more conservative, and I wouldn't have even responded if you hadn't said specifically that it is a societal issue and not a specific cultural one. The US has given the consumer all the power and it shows. The Karen stereotype didn't come out of nowhere. Sure, it would be nice if people were less selfish, but it really depends on the circumstance. If I see a bar I have to clean up for someone else, I just do it, because I probably need that bar. I do think that statistically there would be far more many US people complaining that UK people. The society does not matter, the culture that encompasses the society does.
The only bad thing about pure imo is that there isn't quite enough equipment. They could do with a few more machines, maybe another calf machine or a matrix machine for your back!
I disagree with the front desk staff thing. I'm too psyched to want to chat with anyone. Not putting weights away is a pain but I find if you keep doing it then others around you start doing it. Totally agree with you about the Matrix equipment. I always say, "Matrix equipment - designed by people who don't lift weights". You showed the Leg Press machine but didn't mention it only has two locking points. One is for people that are 3 feet tall the other is for people over 6 feet tall. What about people in between? The calf machine has no adjustment points at the bottom. So if you are below a certain height you can't use it. The assisted pull up/dip machine has a pad that doesn't fold down. They didn't even make a way to pin it down. You have to get a weight and put it on the pad to keep it down and there's usually no weights in the machine area for you to do this. I've used a few types of Matrix adjustable benches. The new ones have seat pads that go up when you put the back rest up. Why would I want that? They also don't go into a decline so you have to wedge weights under the seat foot to decline it. The old style benches was all adjustable so why change it? The seated tricep extension machine has two handles you hold on to. Why not put a cambered bar between the handles so you'll have the option to vary your grip and even do an underhand grip? The same with the preacher bicep machine. Just two handles. a cambered bar would open up many more options. The best thing is that if you go to the Matrix UA-cam videos on the machine in question and mention the faults they just delete your comment.
Can I stress my muscles with weights? YES Can I move weights around in a way that beasts my muscles and gives me an amazing workout? YES That's enough for me.
1. Just depends on the person but it's supposed to be a get in and get out whenever you want.. desk not necessary at all. Sign in online which is easy it's the 2020s now 2. Never had a problem at my gym everything is always put back and the equipment is wiped down 3. Equipment is a high standard and it's great I don't have anything at my gym that doesn't allow for a full range of motion That's just my gym and I live in a small town so maybe you went to a really bad one
Went to a PureGym (Harrogate) today. No complaints, functional, it has the equipment I needed. Place was clean and tidy, weights racked when not in use. It’s not David Lloyd but that’s not what you’d expect for the PureGym price.
£19.99 a month for 24/7 access. The gym equipment is fine, not the best, but fine for what most people want. If you want a desk with someone pretending the're happy to see you then join David Lloyds and pay treble the price. Personally, i like to walk in, train, say hi to few regulars, and walk out. The place is is fine imo
The Puregym I went to was amazing. Problem was how busy it was sometimes. But if you focused primarily on freeweights this is not a problem. I liked my experience at puregym and there was so much equipment too.
Definitely don't need anyone at front desk, that's the biggest plus for me. Disrespectful English culture leaving things lying about with no respect for others,.. Absolutely true... Mind, you, if you think that's bad you should see the state of most of the houses then you will know why.

I've been a member of puregym in switzerland, the Wohlen location to be exact. They have a front desk! They don't use Matrix equipment! It is one of the most affordable gyms in all of Switzerland! About half the price of comparable gyms! They have a very wide assortment of machines, stations, dumbbells, barbells, power racks, cardio machines. It's easily one of the most equiped gyms i've seen in a long time. It is a 24/7 since two weeks and it's awesome, i can go outside of normal working hours and i can skip the busiest times. during rush hour it can be very cramped though. Maybe the circumstances differ from location to location though, it might be worth it to check out different locations over time
I've just recently moved cities from one of the best gyms I've ever been to Clifford's health centre notts to a pure gym in Manchester and this is spot on the leg press is a joke
I think the biggest issue I would have is going in with a camera. I can put up with the rest but would complain if I had somebody going around with a camera.
The reason Pure Gym goers don't put their weights away is the low prices attract a lot of low rent people who are basically ignorant. It's often banged out to the gills too.
Puregym is pure wank if i’m being honest. The one near me is packed after 12pm and in the quiet times it always has the same creepy roided Polish guys. The equipment is subpar at best and I was paying £12 a month in a student discount promotion per month and even for £12 it wasn’t worth it.
I trained at pure gym for about 1 to 2 years tbf it's actually a good gym chain in my opinion every so often they ask you what can be improved and the only thing was nobody re racks weights and that if you lift is so fucking annoying
Why would you care if a front desk person is excited about you visiting the gym. Is this a low self esteem thing? Why do people need validation from a gym front desk?
I only train at pure Gym because it's only 20 minutes walk from flat and there is no other gym in the area 1) don't understand the prices, In the town centre it's £18 with fantastic amount of equipment and it's one of the biggest they have Where I live outside the outskirts and the gym I used is smaller hardly any equipment and I'm paying an extra £1 Don't like the racks you can't do correct height for squats/deadlift and bench press Very few 1kg, 2kg,5kg,10kg 15kg weight plates but loads of 20kg and 25kg Staff/ gym members up up there self, think better than any one The gym layout is terrible Great if you want to do cardio coz you have to go from one end to the other of the gym to just use one piece of equipment I don't know how they became one of the biggest gym chains in Britain As we had David Lloyd, LA fitness, fitness first, cannons and so on

Pure gym refused to refund my money when i cancelled their membership and i didn’t visit their gym the whole month. Does anyone had the same problem as me?
yh you're right about people not putting the weights away. Many times they put them away...in the wrong spot. You pick up a pair of weight only to find a different set of weights replacing that position. People also train way too close to the weights and get mad when you disturb them...
Duuuuuuuuuuude! I did find this funny...but somethings that you need to understand. 1. Smith machines...that's nothing to do with Matrix...that's just how smith machines work...they're fixed for beginners and safety. If you are experienced...just use a free atanding squat rack and barbell (Also, you can adjust the buffers at the bottom of the rack). 2. Putting weights away - I HATE IT! I sooooo agree with you. I hate how people don't put their stuff away. BUT every country in the world has this problem.
The difference is us brits know damn well the person at the desk has no interest in how I am.

I've been to one of these gyms, the number 1 problem is that it's to busy. If you want to do chest at peak time forget it. I pay twice as much now but I can do what I want when I want.
Facts, Matrix is hands down the worst kit providers going, all there equipment/machines are terrible
1:26 the girl full on changing in the background 😂
Why you should never front a UA-cam video, without ironing first.
i go puregym and i find the fact you dont need to speak to anyone like ever pretty good, the machines being weird and weights being out sometimes (literally never when i go) is like the only downside and maybe the price but they've lowered it to like £20 and for 24/7 active gym come anytime its not bad
Number 1: Go with your friend.
Number 2: What do you mean it's the culture? Some people do, some don't. That's not on the gym.
What drives me insane is people be sitting down occupying a machine and texting, when they can just stand up and rest in between sets. And you can't ask people every time to get up, sometimes you're gonna sound rude.
You can, it's actually in the gym rules that you are meant to share machines and step aside after your set.
you can ask to jump in-then they know that you waiting
How can we take this guy seriously? He's exercising with converse on.
Only girls wear Converse
Firewater converse are the perfect squat and deadlift etc shoes but you wouldn’t use that because people like you only use bicycle machines and stuff and then leave
the ONLY thing people put back is the dumbbells, i constantly see staff running after people trying to put things back (that's the only thing i have to say about the people, also i'm English). Another thing i hate is there are 4 locations in my city which one of is located in thy centre, that one gets the most traction yet they choose not to upgrade the equipment there, but the locations that gets quarter the amount of people compared to the city centre one gets new equipment???
Pure gym in england is actually the best gym just puch your code in do your workout has showers in the changing room and good locker rooms and punch the code in and go home nothing wrong with it
People not putting weights away has happened in every gym I've ever used.
I prefer no front desk but I definitely want staff on hand incase needed though even better if they can offer advice ect.
the staffing levels at puregym is not that great-sometimes its even unstaffed
There's a front desk at my pure gym. No gym always put weights away n it's not the gyms fault. It's the people who use them. The rack you showed is for squats. Not bent over row. I pay £10.99. I recommend them highly.
i actually find puegym faily decent. Mainly cuz i love wotking out alone and focusing on it. I love the fact ppl doesnt gather in groups. the downside for me is when they do these pt sessions that are noisy af-
Anothe issue i had wiith puregym is the locker room which is not safe at all plues i got robbed once and no one answerred for thatm aside from that it aint too bad as some more expensive gyms ive been to have way less machines
Some of these comments are hilarious. He's not an example of American privilege; he's looking for common courtesy in a public space. Unfortunately society as a whole doesn't think about anyone but themselves, even when they're in a crowded gym at 6pm.
There are good people, in badness. Don't just assume, it is all of society.
I searched why my mobile data doesn't work in pure gym and end up watching this video
Ha yes it’s weird why so few put their weights away in PureGyms. Seems universal across the chain. Doesn’t happen in other gyms in the U.K..
It's not universal, I go to 3 Puregyms and I haven't seen it happen very often.
Clash of culture with no.1 here... That's such an American thing to complain about 😂😂
Can I stress my muscles with weights? YES
Can I move weights around in a way that beasts my muscles and gives me an amazing workout? YES
That's enough for me.
Mate, if you want 5* treatment join David Lloyd, you’re not going to get 10/10 treatment from a budget gym. Cmon now.
1. Just depends on the person but it's supposed to be a get in and get out whenever you want.. desk not necessary at all. Sign in online which is easy it's the 2020s now
2. Never had a problem at my gym everything is always put back and the equipment is wiped down
3. Equipment is a high standard and it's great I don't have anything at my gym that doesn't allow for a full range of motion
That's just my gym and I live in a small town so maybe you went to a really bad one
No1 means the memberships are cheaper. It also means they are 24hr rather than just when the gym has people on the desk.
Instead of whining you could educate people in a better way instead advising people not to go
Went to a PureGym (Harrogate) today.
Who cares if your not greeted when u get there, I'm in gym to train not talk to people. If people talk to you takes u out your zone
Your going to an expensive gym i only pay £19.99 and 24/7
i agree there are some gyms for £14,99 xercise4less but you can get puregym for 17.99 offer the £29.99 is really expensive
@@davidsworld5837 pure gyms go down to£11.99
The Puregym I went to was amazing. Problem was how busy it was sometimes. But if you focused primarily on freeweights this is not a problem. I liked my experience at puregym and there was so much equipment too.
This video should be titled. How to be the most unlikable douch on the internet
Definitely don't need anyone at front desk, that's the biggest plus for me. Disrespectful English culture leaving things lying about with no respect for others,.. Absolutely true... Mind, you, if you think that's bad you should see the state of most of the houses then you will know why.
Cant wait to go back in the gym had an injury and been off for 7-8 months fell like a potato gained like 20 kg eating trash and lost wy way in life but finally going back
I've been a member of puregym in switzerland, the Wohlen location to be exact. Maybe the circumstances differ from location to location though, it might be worth it to check out different locations over time
I've just recently moved cities from one of the best gyms I've ever been to Clifford's health centre notts to a pure gym in Manchester and this is spot on the leg press is a joke
matrix what u expect
didn't understand what he was talking about
I on the other hand prefer not having front desk staff :D
I’m hoping it’s a short stay.
I only train at pure Gym because it's only 20 minutes walk from flat and there is no other gym in the area
1) don't understand the prices,
In the town centre it's £18 with fantastic amount of equipment and it's one of the biggest they have
Where I live outside the outskirts and the gym I used is smaller hardly any equipment and I'm paying an extra £1
Don't like the racks you can't do correct height for squats/deadlift and bench press
Very few 1kg, 2kg,5kg,10kg 15kg weight plates but loads of 20kg and 25kg
Staff/ gym members up up there self, think better than any one
The gym layout is terrible
Great if you want to do cardio coz you have to go from one end to the other of the gym to just use one piece of equipment
I don't know how they became one of the biggest gym chains in Britain
As we had David Lloyd, LA fitness, fitness first, cannons and so on
🤣Why would you want a front desk?
"might be silly"
Pathetic would be the right word
I literally went to pure gym today to ask some questions/ sign up only to find there is no front desk...
1:30 was someone really putting their trousers on haha
My puregym is 18£ a month...
You can see his girl changing at the back and posted this to public now you can realise what life he leads 😂😷
Millions of people use the same machines I.e. Smith and leg press and happy with them , also incase you don’t know Puregym is the 2nd largest gym and fitness operator in entire Europe. Must be a shit gym as it’s got 500 gyms in Europe!
I went in to have an 'induction ' - waited in the induction area, and literally no one gave a shit. Had to WATCH other people using the machines to learn how.
There are gyms in the UK that have receptionist but the 24/7 gyms are not that sort of gym
This video has some light whistling sounds in the starting and I got messed up thinking my nose was whistling lmao. I kept squeezing it, but it was synced with my breathing. I got frustrated and paused the video to realise it was the video.
My pure gym membership costs me £16.99 a month I just upgraded it to 23.99 to allow me to use any gym in the Uk. This gym is a great gym and this Yanky is waffaling!
Go nuffield then 63 a month sauna pool and gym
I tend to only use a Smith machine for calf raises
Point number 2, gf in background (hides body in over size shirt ( realizes he vlogging) pulls up pants and tighten up shirt) lolz
