Dude I love how you benchmark in different location I've seen many benchmarks but they usually have the character running in an area. But u have shown different combat scenarios so we know what's the lowest we can expect ty
hi, thank you for noticing, I tried to capture intensive gameplay moments to test how low fps can go. I didn't want to sugar coat Lenovo Legion 5, just wanted to see the real numbers. But still, its is the best for now.
seems like it also depends on the optimization. i believe games with low frames and high temp are just not properly optimized for pc therefore requires higher end hardware to run good. let’s be real, if gta 5, witcher 3 and hitman can offer such framerate at those graphics, i think most other games should be able to.
yes, exactly my thoughts, the performance does not solely depend on the hardware, it also depends on the optimization. Also, some games are not very successful ports from consoles. For e.g., in Resident Evil 8, if you look at textures close up, you'll see really bad and poor textures even with the highest settings on. This is the best seen on rock textures, they are really pixelated. So I prefer to judge only by successful games, like Cyberpunk 2077, it is really a good benchmark for games
Remember he said that every game in the video was tested with 80w but the max of gpu's tgp is 130w so the games will run 15% more faster than showed in the video
Update 25.01.2023 Guys, it finally happened. After 1.5 years of use, the laptop motherboard was fried in a second. There was no damage or other preconditons. Probably, it is a factory defect. Replacing motherboard costs 1400 Euro in France in LDLC, and the warranty is not applicable. I will either repair it in my home country, or find a Lenovo service center somewhere in Paris. That's another proof how unstable gaming laptops are. If you have no choice but to buy a laptop, don't buy too expensive, again, it is very easy to overheat them. And don't mine cryptocurrency on them :D ______ Useful notes (over the course of 1.5 year of usage): - I used OBS screen recorder and MSI Afterburner. Without them, the temperatures, FPS and RAM usage are even better; - The temperatures you see are after several hours of uninterrupted gameplay, usually they are lower - The laptop has been in use for 11 months, it runs very smoothly. However, the temperatures are a bit higher on average, in the future I might need to clean the cooling system and replace the thermal paste. Otherwise, no performance issues - GPU usage itself is not very informative. It may be loaded up to 99% even in less demanding games, for e.g., Tiny Tina's Adventures. Why? Because if we set unlimited Framerate, our GPU will try to *maximize FPS* by working at the 99% capacity, even if only 2GB VRAM is used. - before buying a laptop, try to *avoid major gaming channels, as they often sugarcoat laptops and test them in ideal conditions* (cold room, external screen recorders, playing for only 5-10 minutes, using only in-game benchmarks, testing games in less demanding locations, etc.). They make money of it. I even saw some channels promoting 1200 EUR laptop with rtx 3050, while you could buy rtx 3060 for that price and get 40% performance boost. Even worse, the companies provide these UA-camrs with factory models (obviously with better characteristics), and these models could differ from the rest, mass-produced models. In brief: watch as many small channels and reviews as possible, because we have no monetary benefits from recommending specific laptops and only share our unprofessional impressions. Write to them in the comment section, asking about their personal experience. - Lenovo Legion is a very successful line of laptops, however, I am sure they are many more options now as of 2022, so it is not the only viable gaming model (like MSI or ASUS TUF 2022 edition). - I strongly advice everyone against using Turbo mode, Quiet is enough for most cases. 1 year later and the temperatures already are 10 degrees higher. The thermal paste wasn't the problem. Neither was the hot summer, like I wrote in the comments. As it turned out, the *fans were blocked by dust*, had to blow through the fan exhaust vents with mouth for about 10 minutes. There was a lot of dust, but eventually the temperatures got back to normal. Can you imagine what would've happened if I were using Turbo Boost Mode? :D - I had a problem with the laptop's in-built microphone, people could barely hear me. I was very embarrassing for a laptop for this price. As it turned out, I had to *manually* install Realtek High Definition Audio Driver for Windows 11 from Lenovo website (even though I had Windows 10, lol). PS. This video is for information purposes only, the test could be different case-by-case. So let us discuss this laptop in the comment section, ask any questions, I'll try to answer based on my user experience.
@@eugenequilban5482 hi, I checked the OBS forum, seems like recording is more demanding, but really depends on many factors (the streaming quality, encoders). Personally I didn't test it.
@@TheBarOst Oh. Thank you sir. I'm just curious because I would stream it via discord for my girl to watch whenever I'm playing but I'm not sure if it would affect performance. Thanks for the information
@@eugenequilban5482 yes, the performance of this laptop should be ample to stream. My only concern are temperatures, but you'll figure this out eventually by experimenting. I've read that all the computer components are not made equal, some chips are more successful, some are not. This is especially crucial for undervolt - you lower your voltage gradually while maintaining stable work of your computer until you find that "sweet spot", which lowers temperatures by a great magnitude. So I wish you and your girl the best satisfaction possible from gaming ;)
Excellent video and comment. Question: doesn't the laptop have a performance and balance mode? Are those different that the Turbo boost? Do you only use Quiet mode?
hi, thank you very much, this is my first gaming laptop, so at that moment I didn't know all those tricks how to increase performance, because the primary goal was comfortable office work. Of course, there are certain conditions required to be met to maximize performance
@@TheBarOst hi bro i just ordered this laptop it will come in like 2days or 1day can u help me with saying what u mean about upgrading the performance?
@@Random22112 the most basic thing is to turn off hybrid mode, so your laptop will only use discrete (rtx3060) GPU. Also, change power plan (in power options) of your battery to performance, switch off everywhere 'maximum power savings', increase max processor state to 100%, etc. There are numerous other tricks but I didn't bother with them. Upgrade also all your drivers with Lenovo Vantage program, and keep your system up to date
hi, the difference is not that big or none at all in comparison with 5800h. In most cases, GPU was the bottleneck (and not the CPU). GPU was loaded up to 99%, while CPU was loaded at most 50%. So, for gaming no difference, only price.
@@realsecrets1 rtx 3060 is loaded up to 99% in games, it is not always sufficient for maximum settings in modern games, while CPU is loaded only up to 40-50%, meaning the GPU is the weaker link here

Besides gaming, is r5 5600h actually good at rendering or working (pts, coding, ...) I'm kinda confused between choosing r5 3060 and r7 3050ti. Can you help me?
hi, please, don't go for 4 Gb Vram, I feel like 3060 is already struggling a bit with the newest games on max settings, like FH5, RE 8 and Halo Infinite, they want 8 Gb of Vram already. In any case, 3060 is superb and for the moment runs any game on high-ultra settings with ray tracing. 5600h is enough for my daily tasks, like video rendering, GIS software, so for gaming it is more than enough.
hi barost , i have a question plz , can u suggest me this laptop for editing and gaming both ? thanks bcs i have a choice for R7 5800 h and yur laptop R5 5600 ..
hi, well that is an easy one, for gaming you need at least 6GB Vram. For editing, rendering, music making, I would suggest 5800h plus 32GB of RAM. I have recently finished an orchestral track in FL Studio, I used only 6 instruments like strings, horns, choir, etc. and it consumed all 16GB of my RAM, causing my laptop to crash, lol. If you have the budget, go for 5800h. If you don't, 5600h is still more than enough for all my hobbies (GIS maps visualizaiton, data analysis and heavy computations in Python and R, video editing, rendering, music making, gaming, browsing 20+ Chrome tabs at the same time). To summarize, ideally I would go for 5800h + rtx 3070 + 32GB. However, right now my laptop satisfies all the needs (5600h + rtx 3060 + 16GB).
hi, exactly, I didn't see any major performance boost in Turbo Boost mode, plus higher temperatures. I have 2nd video on that ua-cam.com/video/cZ4wwPvFjGg/v-deo.html&ab_channel=BarOst Balanced mode (100W) is the best in terms of temperatures/performance
Hi brother, do you think the intel i7 11800 processor will perform better than the Yaryzen 7 5800 Which one do you recommend to play? Thank you for your answer
hi, it depends on the tasks these two processes perform. according to the tests, 11800 is slightly better. I suggest that you compare prices, because in gaming there will be no difference, because the weakest spot in the gaming laptop is always GPU, especially if you have low VRAM like 4GB. I would still go for the Ryzen, because it is best performance fort its money, even 5600h for now is enough for me. However, if I had the chance, I would go for 5800h, because I need to do some heavy-CPU tasks like video rendering, analyzing huge datasets, etc.
Hi I would like to ask for a RAM module upgrade for this model. Do you have any suggestions (brand/type)? Will it improve performance a bit? Also do you know if the R7 5800H variant of this laptop perform better in games? Thank you
hi, yes, everyone suggests Samsung Memory Kit, I have Kingston and Hynix now, they are acceptable, both for games and for crypto mining, but Samsung is considered the best I'm not sure 5800h will affect the performance, because the bottleneck is clearly the GPU, 6GB of memory is hardly enough for consistent 60 fps in the most demanding games with RTX on (Halo, RE 8, Cyberpunk), But 5800h is more preferable in other tasks, video editing, rendering, etc. From my experience, 5600h is more than enough for gaming
hi, not sure you need it that often, but once in a few months its a good idea, I couldn't believe when all the temperatures dropped by 10 degrees Celsius after that :D
I bought the exact same Model, for 1049€ in July 2021. In Quiet mode does the repaste no change at all. Clocks were also the same
@@Lee-xm1xk I reccomend you to buy a laptop with pre-installed SSD for 1024 GB (or 512 GB at least). So you don't need to upgrade it. According to the specifications, there are two SSD slots so you have two options. 1) Replace the old SSD with a new one 2) Insert a new SSD into the second slot
@@TheBarOst I’m looking at buying the Lenovo legion pro 5 3070 which costs £1350 but only has 512gb. The 1tb model is £1500 which is too much for me. I’m wondering if I buy the smaller storage model is it easy just to put in an extra SSD also how expensive are they because I could buy an extra one in the future?
@@Lee-xm1xk it is very easy to do a basic upgrade for laptops. For RAM upgrade, there are two slots, so you just eject the old RAM kit and insert two new RAM cards, for example, if you want to replace Hynix with Samsung RAM. For SSD, it is almost the same, the only difference is that you need a screwdriver to unfasten the SSD, eject it and replace with a new one. What concerns the prices, I checked it now on the Amazon Co Uk, Samsung 970 Evo costs 130 British Pounds, so at the end it will still cost you 1500 pounds even if you upgrade it yourself. The SSD storage still costs a lot of money, but it is worth it. I can't imagine working with 512 GB. But this is only my opinion, you have to do your own research, because things are very different in Europe and the UK.
hi, I thought this myself at first, even wrote a complaint. As it turned out, some programs (like CPU-Z) write that it is 80W GPU. The only chance to know for sure is to switch on the Turbo Boost mode and launch a heavy-graphics game. Set up the MSI Afterburner so that it shows the TDP of your card. For e.g., Cyberpunk shows up to 125W during intensive scenes. However, I didn't notice any performance boost, so the balanced mode (95W) suits best for gaming.
Hi, it is still available, you just make sure to select rtx3060 in MSI Afterburner (and not the integrated iGPU), so you'll get access to the curve. Then watch some videos on how to set the curve, it is a bit messy Then you start to experiment with it, you find the sweet spot when your temperatures drop, but your CPU is still stable. Definitely worth it, helped me lower temperatures by 5-10 degrees in Elden Ring, from 85 to 78 degrees.
hey love the content! I have a question if you can help I have Asus rog strix g15 rtx 3060 140w ryzen 7 6800h 8x2 gb of ram ddr5 and FHD 1080p 300hz screen when I play on turbo mode and Optimized GPU (I think it's called optumus) it works really well however when I switch to Ultimate GPU option (where you need to restart) I experience screen tearing when I play for example AC Origins at max settings locked at 60fps, any way of knowing what's the issue is and how I can fix it? of course when I switch back to ''Optimized'' it works fine, I just want to try this optimus think cuz I hear it can boost performance
hi, sorry, I didn't have this issue in AC Origins while using Lenovo; plus, I've never risked to play in turbo mode / ultra settings, most common things to try: 1) uninstall and install GPU drivers again 2) tinker with Nvidia control panel settings, some of the settings there might conflict with your game 3) remove this 60 fps cap, it might be that the framerate is not synced with the refresh rate. Figthet with V-Sync / G-sync / Freesync option.
@@TheBarOst i think I solved the issue...the refresh rate in the game was set to 60hz so I set it to 300hz PS: I play on turbo mode because the cpu temp in performance mode is around 82-88 while in turbo mode it's around 74-80, of course it's locked to 60fps on both modes in Ultra high preset
@@ajcendana6630 hi, it's very easy, the power button on the laptop (in the middle) shows 3 colors Blue - quiet White - balanced Red - Turbo. Another way is to use software (eg. MSI), that will show how much TDP is currently used. Quiet - max 80W Balanced - 90-100W Turbo - max 130W. However, you will always recognize the Turbo mode, the laptop sounds like a space aircraft taking off :D
hi, in Dota 2 on max settings it is around 50-60 degrees, however, since it is a very hot summer now, the temperatures reached 70 even in less demanding games. In building simulator (2022) it reached even 81-89 degrees. But on any other day the temperatures are good (Elden ring - CPU 81 degrees, max settings). If you lower settings even more, the temperature in Elden Ring is around 70 degrees. So lowering settings will drastically drop the temperatures. I don't even need to use a cooling pad.
what would the pfs be like on balanced or turbo mode ? I'm considering getting this laptop but i can't find the ryzen 7 version, only the ryzen 5600h like in the video so I'm not sure
hi, I am afraid the results are a bit disappointing for the Turbo mode, since I have not noticed a major increase in FPS, only the temperatures are getting higher. I tested some of the games in Part 2 of the video. For e.g., RE8 benefits a bit from the Turbo boost mode (3-5 fps), while other games do not (e.g., AC Valhalla). For gaming it is best to use Balanced mode, but I prefer Quiet (good performance/temperature/noise balance). My laptop is already starting to run at higher temperatures then it used before. Probably I'll need to replace thermal paste soon + clean the fans. So I don't want to put extra strain on it with gaming in Turbo boost mode.
hi, everything was tested in Quiet Mode (80 W), I haven't noticed any major advantage in Boost Mode. Quiet or Balanced mode are the sweet spot in terms of temperature / performance
hi, I will tell you more, even the balanced mode is not very useful. We, gaming laptop enthusiasts, have to accept this very serious drawback, it is technically very hard to cool such amount of temperature in such restricted space. I don't want to sugarcoat it, but during the summer the temperatures are somewhat damaging to the laptop, and in Elden Ring it reaches up to 91 degrees, I had to undervolt the CPU to go back to 81 degrees (the GPU dropped from 75 to 65). I will probably buy a cooling pad next time :D
@@TheBarOst after extensive research you either undervolt your GPU or just limit your cpu TDP, but you can't undervolt an AMD CPU or everyone is wrong on internet which is also a possibility.
hi, please don't go for 3050ti laptop, it is equivalent to 1660ti laptop. You don't save much money, but the performance boost is incredible if you just increase VRAM to 6GB. You don't need a more powerful CPU in gaming, GPU is what counts first.
привет, да, такого точно не должно быть для начала, поробуй базовые настройки в windows, только у меня Винда на английском, но должно быть понятно 1) щелкни на иконку батареи внизу, там должно стоять - power mode - best performance 2) в настройках питания (power options - advanced power settings) - PCI Express (там где питание от сети должно быть off, чтобы не было maximum power saving) - Processor power management a) maximum processor state - 100%. b) Processor performance boost mode (от сети - aggresive, агрессивный) У меня фпс очень проседал во всех играх, когда было 50-70%.
So I ordered this laptop today ryzen 5 and rtx 3060 , my concern is if it performs good with apex legends and streaming at same time , I am a heavy gamer so I spend more then 6 hour playing
hi, oh no, I didn't use AMD performance boost at that moment, and not using it now. It raises clockspeed. I actually do undervolt to stifle CPU's performance, the temperatures are lower with no performance drop. CPU isn't really a key factor in gaming.
My laptop for the exact configuration is giving me ~40 FPS for RDR2 on High and Medium settings. I haven't monitored the temperatures, but can temperature make such a big difference all the time while playing? It's really hot in my city. the temperature's around 40 centigrade and I didn't have the AC on. I'm thinking of using MSI Afterburner to measure temperatures now. Any cooling system for laptops that you'd recommend?
I've read somewhere adding external monitors would not lower fps. I think the screen size is large enough for comfortable gaming. Projecting it on a larger screen will only make the graphics more pixelated. The problem is that rtx3060 can barely deal with Ultra settings with Rays in Full HD, not to mention higher resolutions (in the most recent games). So I would recommend to get a better GPU so that higher resolutions would look better on larger external monitors

@@TheBarOst thx a lot. Why 144 and not 165? Isn’t 165 better? I’m looking for the same Legion but there are a lot of modifications like 15.6” QFHD or 17”FHD with different Hz
@@sentinel905 no difference for usual gamers, it is very difficult to tell the difference at higher framerates, it matters mostly for competitive gamers, anything above 60 should be good, although Lenovo has really bad color gamut for 120 Hz screens, only 65% SRGB, so it was only 144 or 165 for me

Hi, for a few videos I used Xbox Game Bar, which captures the display and not the game itself, therefore, the quality is not good. For the rest of the videos, I used a free and very good software OBS studio, where you can directly record your Gaming screen (and not just the whole display). You can also stream with it.
hi, if you can keep this temperatures in games, this is just perfect, but it rarely happens in demanding games, usually it gets up to 85-87. In less demanding games I have around 77 degrees.
hi, yeah, it was hybrid the performance is not up to the fullest potential, but I wanted to test how low can I go (are games playable on the lowest TDB - 80W with a decent framerate). As it turned out - it's more than enough to launch the latest games on high-ultra settings with rays.
I just got my Legion 5 with these specs, I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to improve the overall graphics quality and FPS on games. I played some Halo Infinite to kind of test run how it would run games on high end settings, my FPS wasn't very good. Only thing I'm really thinking of that can improve gameplay is upgrading my RAM since the stock memory is 8gb.
hi, mostly poor performance is caused by power restrictions. First, try clicking on the battery icon in the bottom right and select "best performance". Second, right click on the battery - power options - the advanced power plan settings. Go through all the settings, changing them to maximum performance, and turn off power savings everywhere. Allow for maximum processor state (100%). Halo infinite worked fine for me, but it is a demanding game, requires 8 GB of VRAM for maximum settings. Write if it helps.
Greetings. I found this model on Amazon, but the screen is 120Hz, 250nits and if I'm not mistaken, 62% or 64% sRGB. It's worth it? Since I don't see another model with 165Hz, or is there another store where there is?
hi, I have solid opinion on that, please don't do it. It is not exclusively about gaming, it is about the comfort of your eyes. Especially if you're planning to use the laptop on a daily basis. I previously had 55% srgb + 250 nits + TN screen, and this is a nightmare compared to IPS + 100% srgb + 300 nits. The difference in games is even more astounding. 55% srgb colors look like they were being washed out. Red color doesn't look like red, it is more of pale orange. I was seeing violet color instead of purple (purple is more saturated). My eyes used to hurt a lot with my previous laptop. Even a minor sunray in my room obscured the information my your screen, because 250 nits is just not bright enough. I wish I had even more than 300 nits right now, because I sometimes work outdoors and it is still not bright enough. The money you save now are not worth the pain your eyes will have to endure for the next few years. Sorry for an overly dramatic answer :)
Lenovo Vantage?
Framerate average, Framerate 1%, Core clock, memory clock

HI, what about it's loudness during non gaming daily tasks like excel, browsing the Internet? Is it loud? I was considering to buy this laptop but with i5 11400H, becouse a lot of tests show more fps in games but many people claim that it is loud during daily tasks, browsing the Internet? What about ryzen 5 5600H in this configuration?
hi, it is absolutely quiet, the only problem are hot summers, then the fans start to spin fast. It sounds like an airplane take off when using Turbo mode, so I use Quiet mode only. I used to have a laptop that was lound even while browsing. I guess it comes with old age, the dust accumulates, the thermal paste dries out, temperatures raise. It gets louder eventually, so a proper maintain is required. However, I'm using it for 1 year and browsing the internet, I can't hear anything :)
hi, I suppose there are other factors besides specs, e.g., a flawed design of the cooling system will yield higher temperatures, so I don't think they are identical. However, I still see Idea Pad being sold online and in major retail stores, making this model highly successful, since it has been on the market for so long ;)
Hi, I would reccomend better CPU for any non-gaming related tasks, It is not enough for me for Video editing/conversion, music making (running multiple instances of Kontakt). Othervise, for gaming it is very good.
hi, 130W if the TDP (Thermal Design Power) of this graphics card, the maximum amount of heat that it could produce. If you switch to Turbo mode, this card gets hotter, but also shows a bit better performance. I personally don't use that mode, for me 80-100W is enough
Hi im trying to chose on this two laptop, lenovo ideapad gaming 3 with rtx 3060 and ryzen 7 5800h 1000gb and lenovo legion 5 with rtx 3060 ryzen 5 5600h 512gb, they have the same price of 1300$ what should i get?
hi, I would undoubtedly pick the first laptop with 5800h and 1TB. Not that 5600h is weak, but stronger CPU would be also a plus for tasks besides gaming (more intensive tasks like video editing). Also 512Gb is not enough, unfortunately. Windows 10 eats up to 90 GB of space, and one game can take 60-150 Gb of space. With the same price, the first laptop is preffered
hi, yes totally agree, but just like any other laptop, it has drawbacks, right now the weather is very hot, 30 degrees, and my laptop could hardly handle that, the temperatures are at least +10 higher, I think a cooling pad is necessary ;)
have the same pc with 8gb ram and cant run any assassins creed or battlefield(yes these 2 specific games) at 60 fps even in the lowest settings...have everything on performance all drivers updated but dont know why ...cant find someone with the same problem...
hi, thanks for the info, 8gb ram is barely enough for anything, especially if you're using Google Chrome :D (especially if it is not in dual mode 4x4 Gb) I recommend installing a 16 GB memory kit of the same manufacturer, thus you will avoid problems with memory timings. My 16Gb is really not enough in some games / software
Thinking of buying this laptop for 1100$. I`m going to play gta5 and fivem (~300-400 players online constantly on the server). I`d like to connect one monitor to play on and use the laptop as a second one. What do you think? Would this laptop handle what i`m willing to do?
hi, I didn't try it myself, but saw replies on the official forum, that external monitor doesn't reduce performance, but gets your laptop warmer a bit. Lenovo supports up to 3 displays with 4k resolution: 4096x2160@60Hz if you connect through HDMI; 3840x2160@60Hz if you connect through USB Type-C; GTA5 is not a demanding game and won't pose any problems running it on max settings
@@TheBarOst Okay thank you so much for the help, I was just confuse if its okay and works no problem to put 2tb capacity in the 2280 slot or only 1tb but yea. Now I just have to think if its worth putting 2tb nvme for more storage and flight sim set up.
hi, a very good question, all the famous youtubers perform tests in ideal conditions. I did the tests in September, when it was cold already, plus no central heating. This summer is exceptionally hot, and the temperatures are somewhat damaging to the laptop, and in Elden Ring it reaches up to 91 degrees, I had to undervolt the CPU to go back to 81 degrees (the GPU dropped from 75 to 65). Even Lenovo and its well-designed cooling system struggles in summer. A cooling pad + undervolt could be an option
Hello sir, please can you help me. Would the following RAM result in poor performance for the laptop: KLEVV DDR4-3200 CL 22-22-22 8GB 1.2V. This is the stock RAM from the supplier. I want to go with dual channel (16GB), but not if the RAM timing is bad. Would you say this is better: Kingston 8GB 3200MHz DDR4 CL16 DIMM FURY Beast? Any assistance is appreciated please. Thank you for this awesome video
hi, I did an extensive research on this topic before buying a laptop and came to the conclusion that it would be much safer to buy a laptop with already installed 16GB RAM. For example, you can damage the lid while opening the laptop, or forget to detach the battery while tampering with it, which would "fry" the laptop. I would recommend to buy pre-installed memory kit. Still, the lid is very easy to open on Lenovo Legion in case you want to do it yourself. However, I installed another memory kit on my previous office laptop, and the performance was much better, I was very satisfied with it. One of the key concepts is that DDR in dual channel are working at the frequency rate of the lowest card. For example, I had Kingston 1333 MHz 17-17-17-40 and I installed another one - Hynix 1333 MHz 17-17-17-40, so the timings were matching. But still, for the ultimate best performance, it is strongly reccomended to to replace your default memory kit with one manufacturer, for e.g., x2 Kingston 8GB or even better x2 Samsung 8GB. So you remove your 8G KLEVV and replace it with x2 Samsung.
@@TheBarOst hi! Thanks for this video! I have a question, which are the best (lower) timings supported? And also, which are the higher ddr4 frequencies supported?
Hi, I have 16GB ram, Hynix manufactures, which is not the fastest. I heard Samsung is the fastest, which also would increase performance. I would say, 16Gb is now a bare minimum for gaming

Hi, this is a perfect deal, the prices have only gone up, make sure it has the same specs (see in the description), mainly that the screen is 144Hz, 100% sRGB, IPS
when I first bought it, I was working/playing 10 hours a day, the temperatures remain very stable around 80 degrees, but usually it is around 70-75, so the cooling system is extremely good
hi, this is a really easy question to answer. Asus is still very terrible with the cooling system, they just don't add enough copper heat pipes, and the design inside the laptop not very efficient. Also, even though I show that 80W is enough for gaming, it is still not a good option, because some games/task may require 95W and more to be efficient. For example, I am mining bitcoins with my laptop and hashrate is reduced very much in Quiet Mode (80W). Balanced mode is still better for heavy tasks. Look at the temperatures on my Lenovo Legion - it is not high but not perfect, some games still make it really hot (like Apex Legends). ASUS will suffer greatly in games like that. This is the reason why I often see second-hand ASUS laptops - it is a very budget and therefore a very flawed line of gaming laptops. Summary: Lenovo Legion 5 with RTX 3060 130W is much better than Asus dash, but it is more expensive. Cooling system is very important in a gaming laptop and Asus is just not good with it.
hi, as a desktop laptop, the Pro version could be very good. However, I do not recommend heavier / bigger laptops, because it is really hard to carry around 3.5kg on your back (with a charger). For gaming, it depends on the GPU. You'll have a larger screen, meaning you'll need a more powerful GPU to support QHD resolution in descent framerates. I personally wouldn't go for heavier laptops because I travel often, and every kilogram counts in a luggage. For gaming, 3060 satisfies all my needs.
hi, I hope it is a joke ;) Recommended requirements for GPU is only 2GB Vram, but rtx 3060 has 6GB Vram, I'm pretty sure you can run in on ultra settings in 4k
How are the battery life, temperature , is the fan noise loud/annoying and any other cons? Cause I wanna buy it but want to know if it's worth it for 1200€
The problemo is that I haven't seen this laptop for 1,200 EUR, at least not in France. It costs at least 1,699. If you can get it for 1200, that's a jackpot :D
After 7/8 months while using balanced mode or perfomance my gpu temp gets up to 86c (the max) and gpu clocks start to fluctuate also noticed that the gpu TDP is lower in games, most of the time under 100w/90W
hi, I have the exactly same situation. The temperatures become higher steadily over time. It can be also because of extremely hot summer days, in Elden Ring the temperature raises up to 91 degrees, which is very alarming. By default, laptops are barely designed to function at extreme temperatures. I guess, the specification says that the borderline operational condition is 36 degrees. In this conditions, I would strongly suggest a cooling pad, cleaning fans from dust and changing the thermal paste. I haven't tried any of this myself, I simply try to avoid prolonged gaming sessions on my laptop. Undervolt helped me very much, decreased temperatures by 10 degrees, so this is a very efficient solution.
hi, in short, Lenovo is the leader if we consider gaming laptops of about the same price category (1000-1200 EUR). I'm using Lenovo for 8 months already and no problems at all, while Acers are very problematic, according to service centers
hi, before buying this laptop, I did an extensive research on the Internet, read all the forums, watched UA-cam videos, etc. Lenovo was universally recommended over any other models. It has an extended warranty, superior cooling system, and other bonuses. However, some games give hard time even for this laptop, when you have ultra settings + rays, so the cooling system should be of top priority. Lenovo is the premium class among other gaming laptops (approximately in the same price category of 1000-1200 EUR) .
@@aleclerome6400 sure, there is part 2, in brief, I didn't notice major boost, sometimes 3-5 fps, sometimes even worse that quite mode due to higher temperatures. I think balanced mode is the best, 95-100W finished elden ring today in quiet mode, no issues

Hi, please question Which one is better to chose Lenovo legion 5 with rtx 3060 with 512 gb ssd .. or .. Alienware 7 i7 9th gen with rtx 2070 with 2tb ssd ?
hi, I think Alienware is outside the price of mid-rage gaming laptops (Asus, HP, Acer Nitro 5 and Lenovo Legion 5). In my country Alienware costs 2 times more than Lenovo Legion. And this is the price for 2070. This GPU performs sometimes even worse than 3060. Personally I wouldn't go for Alienware. If I had more money, I would buy Lenovo Legion with 3070 card, this way you can secure many years of ultra settings in games.
Bro can you help me choose?? I have managed budget with hardwork so I am hesitating to decide. 1.Asus tuf a15 - ryzen 7- gtx 1660ti 2.Lenovo legion 5 -ryzen 7-gtx 1660ti 3.Lenovo legion 5 -ryzen 5 5600h - rtx3060 Which would be better for gaming? And which would be overall better? If you have any idea can you rank them plz??
Lenovo legion 5 with rtx 3060 all the way. Has a 165hz monitor, the GPU is next generation. The only thing is that the procesor is a lil' bit slower than the others but if you gaming that won't be visible.
@@theravex69 exactly my thoughts. I was considering 1660ti for an extreme budget gaming, but decided not to do that mistake. Even 3060 sometimes finds troubles to launch the latest games on the maximum settings.
hi, if the budget is of no concern, I would rank it: 1) Lenovo Legion 3070, 5800h - for absolute top performance and future proof 2) Lenovo Legion 3060, 5600h - for high-end gaming at the moment, an extremely well designed cooling system. 3) Lenovo Legion 1660ti - mid range gaming 4) Asus tuf 1660t - quite an unsuccessful edition of gaming laptops, the temperatures are too hot. I have seen a lot of second-hand Asus tuf laptops, a lot of gamers are dissatisfied with it. But it is the cheapest option available. Other budget options include HP Omen and Acer Nitro 5 The mobile 3080 GPUs are too hot and expensive, not worth it.
hi, before this video, I tested games in all the modes (quiet, balanced and turbo), and I did not see any major difference, only 3-5 fps boost, but the temperatures and noise increase significantly. I believe that Quiet or Balanced modes are the best in terms of fps/temperatures/noise

I also own this Legion 5 variant so I have some questions: Can this laptop support 2tb on each SSD slot? Does it support SATA HDD/SSD? And what is the maximum RAM capacity of this unit?
According to the technical specifications: 1. Max RAM is 32 GB. I have 16GB right now (8GB dual channel). It is more than enough for gaming. Maximum RAM used was 12-13GB. 2. There are two SSD slots of M.2 format. So you can add another 1024 GB SSD. 3. I strongly recommend against any HDD/SATA storage. Even with this SSD, games are not launching as fast as I would expect, could be much faster. Yet this SSD has no in-game performance issues
Better late than never. Even though 32GB of RAM is what is officially stated as maximum, there are people on Lenovo forums who claim that 64GB (2x32GB) of RAM works too
@@TheBarOst definetly not games. People who need that much RAM would probably be video editors. And they sometimes need more. Not even mentioning engineers, who need to run physics simulations - these might require 256GB of RAM and that is not a limit probably. But then the other specs might not be enough for their tasks...
hi, if you mean AMD 6600m GPU, then, according to the tests, rtx 3060 with 130W still outperforms 6600m. But it is faster than rtx 3060 with 80W. Overall, the difference should not be very big and it really depends on the game. Different games show different results, some youtubers did that comparison. I would still go for rtx 3060 / 130W without hesitation, I feel that it has wider market share and is more common.
If the grafic is 80W, the pc is in wisper mode. Nvidia experience put the optimal settings for u can play up to 60fps. I have this with a 5800H & i play up to 64fps in wisper mode on cyberpunk.
That is the point of the video, to show the incredible performance of rtx 3060 even in the quiet mode. Because I prefer lower temperatures, rather than more fps
@@tanadolz yes, they are identical, as you can see, except for the processor. From my experience with 5600h, I have to say, it suits for every recent game, including Elden Ring (even with a very bad optimization), Halo, Forza, etc. If you're planning to do other stuff besides gaming, I would go for 5800h. Who knows what kind of activities you will pick up in the future: 3D modelling, GIS map drawing, data analysis with millions of rows of data, video editing. But the most important thing for me is a good IPS 100% sRGB, you won't be able to look at TN 45% NTSC screens anymore ;)
I believe Turbo mode is a total scam - extremely high temperatures with almost no boost in performance, not to mention the sound of airplane taking off. Balanced is better, but quiet is more consistent and gentle on laptop parts =)
nope, in most games GPU is the bottleneck, it is loaded up 99%, while CPU is loaded up to 49%, go safely for 5600h, especially if it is cheaper. If you have the budget, better go for RTX 3070
@@slipknot1411 customers want to play each game in 1080p in max settings with rTX on with at least 30 fps. Yep, 6 GB is the minimum for these preferences. But there are games which use no more than 4 GB VRam, like Elden Ring, Far Cry 5.
hi, without any doubt Lenovo is better. Idea Pad is more of a budget laptop with cooler GPU, it is akin to Asus TUF, Nitro 5. The question is, why is the price gap that big? From my experience, the difference should be around 200 EUR between these two. You don't need 5800h for gaming, and 3050 is a bit too weak for modern games, the laptop itself is unbalanced, I wouldn't go for it.
@@kennthu hi, I would never ever recommend anybody 4gb Vram. Look at the tests in my video, these 2020 games already consume up to 6gb of Vram. There will be moments when you would want to play your favorite game on the max settings but won't be able due to 4gb vram. These twu CPUs make no difference in gaming , both are enough. There is no point to have powerful CPU but limited Vram

hi thanks for your good video and I am intrested to know if this laptop can run more than 60 fps with lower resolution like 1080 p on independent monitor?
hi, you can get 60 fps even with highest settings in 1080p. You just need to tweak some unimportant settings, like reflections and shadows, these are the most graphically intensive things. Also, we should talk about fps stability. Some very intensive game scenes would inevitably drop fps. For example, if there are too many NPCs lunging at you at the same time. To summarize, you can get 60 fps with high settings in 1080p, no need to lower settings or resolution, just lower some of the most demanding settings
Hi guys. Is it worth it to get the same config Ryzen 5, 3060 130w but with 120 hz panel? It does not have G sync and free sync but only v sync. Will v sync be able to control tearing?
hi, the 120hz screen's Color Gamut is only 45% NTSC (around 55% sRGB). This is absolutely unacceptable for an expensive gaming laptop. Moreover, it's brightness is 250 nits (compared to 300 nits) and contrast ratio 800:1 (compared to 1000:1). Previously I had 55% sRGB screen and it is incomparable with 100 sRGB, I cannot go back to using it again. All the colors look washed out, and it is hard to tell if, for example, the color is orange or red. I strongly recommend to go for the 165hz screen, which also includes technologies like G-sync, Free-sync, Dolby Vision, and DC dimmer.
What country is this? The price is extremely good, but I would rather stick to 15 inch. 17 inch models are no different from 15 inch, they are just bigger and heavier. The cooling system remains same, meaning it would be quite challenging to render a 3D scene and maintain acceptable temperatures. There is no point in high end graphics card if your laptop is overheating and stuttering, so I would say cooling system is by far the most important thing in gaming laptops.

Hi, I asked that question myself here you can visually compare two resolutions 16:9 (1920x1080) i.imgur.com/O4NQgUE.jpg 16:10 (1920x1200) i.imgur.com/5exfdoK.jpg So 1080p resolution simply cover larger area in game. I think it is better because it is more standard and widespread. However, for working with spreadsheets, code, etc. It would be more convenient to have a taller screen 16:10. But you can definitely change resolutions in the menu, I'm just afraid you could get black letterboxes if your resolution is not supported by the game. But you better also ask other opinions ;) What concerns the pro version, it has the same cooling system as standard Legion 15.6". It means that the same small fans need to cool larger area inside the laptop, so you'll get higher temperatures and less performance. Not to mention it's weight is 3kg without the charger (0.5 kg). In brief, I would still prefer my 15.6" laptop over the pro version ;)
I researched for days and 15 inch is too small. 17 inch screen bit slower than 165hz , doesnt have gsync. But 15 is too small, so getting 17. 1080p both so performance is the same. Get AMD cpu for FreeSync
Cyberpunk was with RTX on and ultra setting
Remember he said that every game in the video was tested with 80w but the max of gpu's tgp is 130w so the games will run 15% more faster than showed in the video
I love that you are giving so much info in the comments! Thank you! :D
hi, the initial idea was to discuss this laptop in the comment sections, I wanted to share my personal experience of using it :)
Update 25.01.2023
Guys, it finally happened.
And don't mine cryptocurrency on them :D
______
Useful notes (over the course of 1.5 year of usage):
- I used OBS screen recorder and MSI Afterburner. Without them, the temperatures, FPS and RAM usage are even better;
- The temperatures you see are after several hours of uninterrupted gameplay, usually they are lower
- The laptop has been in use for 11 months, it runs very smoothly. However, the temperatures are a bit higher on average, in the future I might need to clean the cooling system and replace the thermal paste. Otherwise, no performance issues
- GPU usage itself is not very informative.
- I had a problem with the laptop's in-built microphone, people could barely hear me.
Does streaming need more cpu than recording? Are they even different in terms of cpu usage and performance?

Upgrade also all your drivers with Lenovo Vantage program, and keep your system up to date

hi, please, don't go for 4 Gb Vram, I feel like 3060 is already struggling a bit with the newest games on max settings, like FH5, RE 8 and Halo Infinite, they want 8 Gb of Vram already.

However, right now my laptop satisfies all the needs (5600h + rtx 3060 + 16GB).

why do the gaming test on quiet mode? Is the performance boost not significant in other modes?
hi, exactly, I didn't see any major performance boost in Turbo Boost mode, plus higher temperatures.
I have 2nd video on that

Balanced mode (100W) is the best in terms of temperatures/performance
Hi brother, do you think the intel i7 11800 processor will perform better than the Yaryzen 7 5800
Which one do you recommend to play?
Thank you
hi, yes, everyone suggests Samsung Memory Kit,
I have Kingston and Hynix now, they are acceptable, both for games and for crypto mining, but Samsung is considered the best
I'm not sure 5800h will affect the performance, because the bottleneck is clearly the GPU, 6GB of memory is hardly enough for consistent 60 fps in the most demanding games with RTX on (Halo, RE 8, Cyberpunk),
But 5800h is more preferable in other tasks, video editing, rendering, etc.
From my experience, 5600h is more than enough for gaming

@@Lee-xm1xk I reccomend you to buy a laptop with pre-installed SSD for 1024 GB (or 512 GB at least). So you don't need to upgrade it.
According to the specifications, there are two SSD slots so you have two options.
1) Replace the old SSD with a new one
2) Insert a new SSD into the second slot
Just got this laptop for $1200. Hope it is good. It claims that it have 130w tdp but i see in your video only 80w tdp? Is it wrong?
hi, I thought this myself at first, even wrote a complaint.
Hi, how you managed to undervolt your ryzen cpu, many say that this feature is locked, unfortunately.
Hi, it is still available,
you just make sure to select rtx3060 in MSI Afterburner (and not the integrated iGPU), so you'll get access to the curve.
Then watch some videos on how to set the curve, it is a bit messy
Then you start to experiment with it, you find the sweet spot when your temperatures drop, but your CPU is still stable.
Definitely worth it, helped me lower temperatures by 5-10 degrees in Elden Ring, from 85 to 78 degrees.

hi, sorry, I didn't have this issue in AC Origins while using Lenovo;
plus, I've never risked to play in turbo mode / ultra settings,
most common things to try:
1) uninstall and install GPU drivers again
2) tinker with Nvidia control panel settings, some of the settings there might conflict with your game
3) remove this 60 fps cap, it might be that the framerate is not synced with the refresh rate. Figthet with V-Sync / G-sync / Freesync option.

Hey man, are the temps good for light gaming on low-medium settings?
hi, in Dota 2 on max settings it is around 50-60 degrees, however, since it is a very hot summer now, the temperatures reached 70 even in less demanding games.

@@TheBarOst Thanks !

its funny how despite the 130w tgp of the 3060, it barely if not never draw more than 87-90W
hi, I will tell you more, even the balanced mode is not very useful.
So I ordered this laptop today ryzen 5 and rtx 3060 , my concern is if it performs good with apex legends and streaming at same time , I am a heavy gamer so I spend more then 6 hour playing
what is your processor performance boost mode ?
hi, oh no, I didn't use AMD performance boost at that moment, and not using it now.
Do u suggest we use an external monitor when playing games as the screen is a small sized one ,and if so how much fps will be lost
Yes
I've read somewhere adding external monitors would not lower fps.
I think the screen size is large enough for comfortable gaming.
Projecting it on a larger screen will only make the graphics more pixelated.
The problem is that rtx3060 can barely deal with Ultra settings with Rays in Full HD, not to mention higher resolutions (in the most recent games).
So I would recommend to get a better GPU so that higher resolutions would look better on larger external monitors

For the rest of the videos, I used a free and very good software OBS studio, where you can directly record your Gaming screen (and not just the whole display). You can also stream with it.
So, do you consider 80 normal temperature for cpu while gaming?
hi, if you can keep this temperatures in games, this is just perfect, but it rarely happens in demanding games, usually it gets up to 85-87.
In less demanding games I have around 77 degrees.
Were these done with hybrid mode off?
hi, yeah, it was hybrid
the performance is not up to the fullest potential, but I wanted to test how low can I go (are games playable on the lowest TDB - 80W with a decent framerate).

If I have a laptop with the same specs but different model will there be a difference? (IdeaPad gaming 3)
hi, I suppose there are other factors besides specs, e.g., a flawed design of the cooling system will yield higher temperatures, so I don't think they are identical.
However, I still see Idea Pad being sold online and in major retail stores, making this model highly successful, since it has been on the market for so long ;)

hi, 130W if the TDP (Thermal Design Power) of this graphics card, the maximum amount of heat that it could produce.
If you switch to Turbo mode, this card gets hotter, but also shows a bit better performance. I personally don't use that mode, for me 80-100W is enough

hi, a very good question, all the famous youtubers perform tests in ideal conditions.
How much ram did you have ?
Hi, I have 16GB ram, Hynix manufactures, which is not the fastest. I heard Samsung is the fastest, which also would increase performance. I would say, 16Gb is now a bare minimum for gaming

yo which better this laptop or asus tuf dash f15 (i7 11370H 4core/8threat, rtx 3060 85w)?
hi, this is a really easy question to answer.
Should i go for this or Pro version, my need is gaming, multitasking, hacking
hi, as a desktop laptop, the Pro version could be very good.
Hi I'm planning to have this laptop, can i play nba2k in ultra high settings?

After 7/8 months while using balanced mode or perfomance my gpu temp gets up to 86c (the max) and gpu clocks start to fluctuate also noticed that the gpu TDP is lower in games, most of the time under 100w/90W
Tried to undervolt, helps slightly but after 15 min session temps go back to 86.
Also tried to clean the fans just by removing the back. Temps still the same.
So what could it be? Thermal paste maybe?
hi, I have the exactly same situation.

According to the technical specifications:

the lenovo legion 5 r5 5600h rtx 3060 is 400$ more expensive than the ideapad gaming 3 r7 5800h rtx 3050 in my country, which one should i go for?
hi, without any doubt Lenovo is better.
@@TheBarOst thanks
@@TheBarOst my country the tax is high so the price gap between those 2 is pretty big
@@TheBarOst can i ask another question?with the same laptop(legion 5),are there lots of different between r5 5600h rtx 3060 and r7 5800h rtx 3050ti?
@@kennthu hi, I would never ever recommend anybody 4gb Vram. Look at the tests in my video, these 2020 games already consume up to 6gb of Vram. There will be moments when you would want to play your favorite game on the max settings but won't be able due to 4gb vram.
These twu CPUs make no difference in gaming , both are enough. There is no point to have powerful CPU but limited Vram
Do you think its worth upgrading ram if the stock is just 16 gb? So like since the stock is 16, how much more performance will i get if i maybe increased the ram or put in a different ram stick brand
hi, as you can see in the test, the maximum amount of RAM used was 13-14GB, so there is even extra 2GB of RAM,
there are certain brands that are believed to be the fastest, such as Samsung, but I personally did not test that. My RAM is Hynix
However, my previous office laptop had 8GB RAM, and performance increased by few FPS in Cyberpunk, making it playable on low settings 1080p (25-30 fps), I was very satisfied with the results.
Bottom line: 16Gb for now is enough
I want to get this variant of legion 5 but i heard the screen is bad(s rgb, adobe rgb)is it true or its not that bad?

How did sim 4 get a average of 60
because I selected the most GPU-intensive scene on purpose - multiple people in household, zooming out camera. You can have low FPS even in Doom 2, if you engage 5000 enemies at once ;D
hi thanks for your good video
and I am intrested to know if this laptop can run more than 60 fps with lower resolution like 1080 p on independent monitor?
hi,
you can get 60 fps even with highest settings in 1080p.
I strongly recommend to go for the 165hz screen, which also includes technologies like G-sync, Free-sync, Dolby Vision, and DC dimmer.
should I buy the 17 inch model for 1,100 euros? worth it?
What country is this? The price is extremely good,
but I would rather stick to 15 inch.
16 is perfect
@@TheBarOst hey there.Im planing to get legion 5 pro.16inch(16/10ratio) ryzen7 5800 rtx 3060 6gb 16ram,500ssd and 1tb hard. for 1500 euro.Is it worth to get pro variant over the ordinary one.Do u know is it good that kind of screen 16/10ratio for gaming?
Hi, I asked that question myself
here you can visually compare two resolutions
16:9 (1920x1080)
i.imgur.com/O4NQgUE.jpg
16:10 (1920x1200)
i.imgur.com/5exfdoK.jpg
So 1080p resolution simply cover larger area in game. I think it is better because it is more standard and widespread.
However, for working with spreadsheets, code, etc. It would be more convenient to have a taller screen 16:10.
But you can definitely change resolutions in the menu, I'm just afraid you could get black letterboxes if your resolution is not supported by the game.
But you better also ask other opinions ;)
What concerns the pro version, it has the same cooling system as standard Legion 15.6".
