That lexus interior looks really good. I would buy it over the bmw for that reason.
Me too but a 350
owning the 335 of that model with all packages available (the gps system changes to a much bigger screen), i have to agree with you. But then I look at my HID, and floor it, then that all goes away. Trust me, the driving experience is much better on the beamer (I did take an IS350 for a test drive, and a C350, but the beamer just won me). The Cadillac is just too ugly for me, both on the inside and outside).
Victor Estrada if you're in it for the driving experience, you bought the wrong car. Trust me, I have driven all three. The ATS left me with the biggest smile
Depends on what you're after.. But from what I've heard, the IS is the best all-round performer, at the best price ; )
These dweebs didnt mention anything about reliability
The IS250F is not the car that should have been tested, it should have been the IS350F which is around $45,000
you're wrong...the IS350 is comparable to the BMW 335i...the IS250 competes with the 328i
kuruptzZz reread my comment again, I'm not talking about performance. I am talking about price. You can get an IS-350 for around $45k. Therefore my statement is clearly not wrong
Monsieur Africain yes it is wrong...you can get the 328i for $37K...the ATS starts at $35K...therefore, the IS350 is not comparable at all, even pricewise - the IS250 f-sport which starts at $35K is the perfect car for comparison. If they were comparing $45K cars, they would've chosen the BMW 335i instead - which is also $45K
kuruptzZz I could have sworn the video mentioned the price range of $45k as tested on some of the cars
kuruptzZz
no the is250 should be compared to the 320i,they are both base line, the is250 is base not the 328i which is unfair
That Lexus is definitely the best looking out of the three though
I love BMWs, the 3 series still look the best to me. HOWEVER, repairs are expensive. Lexus IS250/350 is the way to go. The new 2014 is not too shabby, I love it
We picked the IS250 for this test as it lines up with the BMW 328i and ATS 2.0 in terms of price and expected performance. If we'd picked the IS 350, we would have put it against a BMW 335 and ATS 3.6
What ?!! these guys are paid to make lexus look bad , i stopped watching it hen the guy said the lexus interior is trying too hard !!!!! Haters gonna hate come on lexus is making amazing cars
You're right.. I think that Lexus are making most beautiful cars than Cadillac and BMW. They're trying too hard!! Nice joke hahahahahahaha
YES
...if someone has a different opinion than you that makes him a hater?? Lexus makes incredibly reliable cars but people have different tastes and i do indeed think that Lexus is trying too hard with both interior and exterior. Regardless , Lexus still tops Infiniti and Acura by a margin. (BTM i don't hate anyone by saying this...)
you can half-ass your maintenance and the Lexus still won't let you down LOL.
where the lexus will be the clear winner is in long term reliability and resale value
Actually - now looking back - I can report I did buy the 2014 BMW 328 with X drive . IT IS NOW AUGUST 2017 and I have 134000 Km . I have become a BMW convert . I had the navigation unit replaced under warranty because it was just too dark and I had to have the oil sensor replaced - the oil check messaging system it had me adding a quart of oil every 2 weeks - when I come to think of it - some of the advice from the dealership was just dangerous - telling me that it was normal to top up the oil from time to time. Since replacing the sensor - no more stupid messages. No new car should be consuming oil. Besides regular maintenance and a complete brake job and 4 run flat tires picking up nails under warranty - the car has been a dream to own . The space , the visibility , the seamless 8 speed transmission . I am convinced no one needs anything more than than this 4 cylinder turbo unit - unbelievable gas mileage and you only have to put in medium grade fuel instead of premium. The engine can be a little noisy on start up and there can be wind noise in the cabin - definitely not as quiet as a Lexus . If you have to get a 3 series - wait for the new one which is less than a year away. The engine has gotten improvements which will be amazing . I would get an upgraded stereo - the base unit is okay but can be a lot better and I would have gotten all the safety technology which BMW makes you pay for which is a bit evil. Some of this technology exists on a CIVIC for crying out loud. The 3'series has something that is hard to explain - it's a certain feeling - perhaps it's the exterior design , perhaps it's the way the sports seats feel and the look of the simple beautiful dials and I got the red interior with the mineral grey - hard to go with any other interior color once you see that red against the grey - it looks like a beautiful rich brown from the outside because of the tinting. I still love Lexus but the BMW is just a magnificent machine - I am so happy that I chose this car.
But which will last the longest and be worth the most? THE LEXUS!!!!
As a BMW enthusiast, I can even say that BMW interiors lack on design. Exterior of the new F30 models has improved and looks quite well. However I'm sure everyone can say that the Lexus here has the best design from the interior, and the exterior. It even shares design from the Lexus LFA. Add more power and I'd buy it.
But back to the interior, I do not like the BMW interior. As others have said, it's not very modern, too simple and has no unique design to it. It's been used for so many years now. I prefer my E90 interior over the new one. The Lexus on the other hand is actually quite beautiful (mainly the LFA designing)
Predator Designs youre a bmw enthusiast yet are judging the cars on design, which is very subjective. the f30's already have more power, you can get a proper manual trans, and it's not like they look bad at all, if a bit derivative of 5's and 7's (especially from the back).
Not sure what planet these guys are from - the IS is just so beautiful - this is what a sports sedan should look like and the interior is almost perfect
I'm thinking on changing over from a E92 335i to a Lexus IS350 F. I found the new BMW lacks style and power compared to the E92 that I currently drive. Thoughts?
LEXUS IS250..ALL DAY...
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Do you like the steering on the E90 better? I found it heavy at low speeds but it was great in the twisties. I guess ditching the RFTs and going for non RFTs would make it bit less stiff.
BMW break down A LOT , most mechanic shop here ARE BMW Specialized TItiled, WHY? because they have lots of problem in long term and fix will cause a a lot of $ , so mechanics do make lots of money out of it. SO dont buy BMW just lease 4 years max, after that everything will falling apart!
i just leased 2014 328 msport .they tweaked the interior and it looks amazing.good fuel mileage comfortable and beautiful.the reason i lease is because i get to drive new cars every 4years without paying out the ass and always covered under warranty.so i dont have to baby as much and they allow 25000km per year which is plenty enough for me.maybe next lease i might consider lexus. but i hardly doubt it after driving bimmer .
The F30 impresses me. My co-worker drove one and it was a nice car, but he was set on the IS350. I am thinking of both the Is350 and the 328i. I like the fact that the BMW is more fuel efficient, yet the Lexus is a Lexus. I am saddened that they gained north of 200 lbs from the 2gen to now. I would love to have the 2nd gen with probably the 3rd gen interior and transmission. The resale on the Lexus will be better if you plan on selling.
Imitation the greatest form of flattery? The BMW 3 series is still the best small exec saloon in the world, regardless of engine spec...period.
Dumb-Dumb
If it's so good take your own money and buy one that's off warranty
I'd take the Lexus. Besides the much nicer, more refined exterior, and cooler styling, it won't leave you stranded at the side of the road nearly as often as the other two ;)
having driven a 2013 328i i can tell you the 8 speed automatic with the 2.0 liter turbo is just an amazing combination. The car just gets up and goes and often think you are driving a v6 as opposed to a inline 4 turbo engine. I'd take the 328i any day over the other two.
How’s the reliability been? I’m thinking about getting a 2013 328i with 80k miles for $11k
@@JordanCleo I had the car and got rid of it after the lease expired. I didnt have any major issues other than the regular (Breaks needed servicing, oil changes) . I wasnt a high mileage driver and only put like 45k on the odometer.
My friend had a problem with his 335i catching fire, but then again he modified his car so that could be the root cause of the fire. He bought another use 335i right after the 1st one burned down lol
How much did BMW pay you guys?
Where is the EVO? Come on!
Omg! I'm loving lexus
Good comparison, I'd also take the cars in that order. Even though I'd buy the 3, I do love the Lexus interior.
Other than the new Accord V6s (278 horsepower), Maximas (290 hp), Taurus SHOs (365 hp), Infiniti G37s (328 hp), the upcoming Audi S3 (300 hp), BMW, and Mercedes Benz, which are really quick based on my research, what reasonably-priced SEDANS under $40,000-$45,000, can perform 0-60 between 5-6 seconds and run the quarter mile in the 13-14 seconds range? However, car must not be rear-wheel drive. I hope someone can assist me with this information as it will be very helpful towards my next car purchase. Thank you.
At first I was confused, I just read Car & Driver's test where the Lexus won then realized that was the REAL test between the 335, ATS 3.2 and IS350..the models up from these. This test was the IS250, 328 and ATS 2.0.
north america doesent get the 320 engine or the 2.5l caddilac
The 250 engine is possibly one of lexus' biggest weaknesses. The nearest competition in HP is the Audi 2.0T, but that engine has 250 lb-ft. Everyone else blows it away in every other measure.
I feel like most of you commenters' IQ combined is less than the dislikes this video has. An IS250 is entry level just like the other two, a is350 has 306 horsepower meaning BMW brings its 300hp 335i and Cadillac brings their 320hp 3.6L ATS. SPOILER ALERT: Both cars are still faster than the IS350....
I think the ATS is a 2.0 (not the 3.6-although I assume it is the 2.0T) the ATS is around 270 hp if its the turbo. 300+ if v6.
Except the BMW is a 328i from which it clearly states in the description idiot
Hate to break it to you but the IS is as fast if not faster than the ATS 3.6.
The lexus that they chose in this video is IS250 .. ,, I got IS350 and i smoke the BWM 335i everyday
Bokaleel bin masood I doubt if you would even smoke my 328 with that goofy lexus lol
So many immature audiences.
I am an import fan owing Lexus IS350 last year and BMW 335 today. I don't usually pick American cars in general.
However, I tested drove Cadillac. It is definitely a respectable car. Solid built and high quality. In fact, the interior quality is better than those two low end Lexus and BMW.
So I don't know where all those immediate bias about American car are coming from. Did any of you seriously owned or have driven these cars before?
Thank you for not being a close-minded biased fanboy like the rest of them here.. 🙋
Evan Ganske its edmunds...i expect fanboyism. who has the prettiest interior is a main selling point (hint: all the interiors are gorgeous you malcontents).
is250 201hps 8+seconds to 60; 328i 245hps, 5+secods to 60
bmw's do not get repaired frequently. classic case in point is my car. had it for 3 years and absolutely love it. drives like a charm
Share what exactly? I know for a fact that even the air conditioning in the A4 is different from the one in the Passat. They share some small displacement engines, transmission and Haldex awd systems in the cheapest models, but that's about it. From A4 higher, they get their very specific Quattro system with computerized torque vectoring.
how about an ats 3.6 vs the bmw
only if they switch from the 328i to the 335i
Ivan Lopez no im saying which would "win", the ats 3.6 or bmw 328i
And IS350
You should do a review on the bmw x1 vs volkswagen tiguan
why did you use the lexus 250 when the 350 is why better?
Just because the repairs are free it doesn't mean it won't break. It just means you won't pay for the headache.
Older BMWs break more than the newer ones.
Don't forget the Lexus is the IS F sport model and not the base model, not to mention has two more cylinders than the other two cars so the comparison is fair. The results are fair and inline with other reviews M3>ISF, 335i>is350 and as we have seen 328i msport> is250 f sport, no real surprises.
You're are correct, and you're also wrong in some ways. The 2.5L v6 in the Lexus is an older, less powerful engine, but it's also a base engine. If you're going to compare it to the 2.0l turbos in the ATS and 3 series, you need to know that both of these engines are OPTIONAL. There are cheaper, less powerful engines available in the 3 series and ATS. The problem is that Lexus doesn't have a turbo 4 to compete in the segment.
That makes sense. The 335i is so much better than the IS 350, it's probably better to only compare the 335i to the S4.
F sport option on is250 is basically a cosmetic package. It doesn't make it more powerful not even stiffer suspension. M3=ISF=C63, 335=IS350=C350, 328=n/a=C300, 320=IS250=C230. Don't forget that the current 2.0l turbo 328i is the replacement of 3.0l na.
Last generation bmw had 2.5l l6 323i and this is probably the proper competitor to IS250
Exactly, I owned a BMW. That is exactly the correct analysis.
I vote Cadillac......slightly lower maintenance and ownership costs
The Lexus utterly crushes these two in terms of reliability. Not even a contest.
Why did they choose IS250? The IS350 has a hundred more horses??
The lexus is weaker because it's an IS250, if you want more power then get the IS350 it has 306 hp, 0 - 60 mph ~5 sec, $3500usd more.
+Linh Nguyen this fuck face used the 250 on purpose
the lexus IS 350 is used to vs BMW 335i .. 338
Lol before you comment, maybe you should research the opposition. If you wanted to compare the more powerful lexus it would only be fair to compare a more powerful BMW (335i)
Right now my top cars I'm going to be looking at next are
1-BMW 328i xdrive
2-Volvo s60 T5 AWD
3-Audi A4 2.0T Quattro
I love BMW but that Volvo is very high on my list and quite possible as an interesting alternative to the mainstream BMW and Audi plus the world class safety and that unique T5 motor. It's a shame I can't put Saab up there anymore :( as that was always one of my favorites
M.T. German
Some other options to consider
MB c300
BMW 335i
Lexus is350
Depending on your budget of course
M.T. German and I'm curious to know which one you chose and why when you do
Andrian Spaqi also something I'm taking into consideration is I live in Wisconsin, so being in a snow belt state makes the Quattro system very appealing. I do believe that BMW and Volvo also have great awd systems though, but when it comes to normal car brands only Mitsubishi and Subaru have the awd that I would trust in deep snow.
Andrian Spaqi After a long period of research and testing i’ve come to a decision, in fall i’m buying a 2015 or newer Lexus is350.
Lexus gives me what i need the most, long term reliability, low maintenance cost, and value for the money.
BMW drives the best to me but i wouldn’t want one past the warranty.
Volvo is still a car i like very much, so i may buy an old s40 as a second vehicle at some point.
depends on what you are looking for for fast straight away drive bmw. looks style fun lexus. fun in the mountains with power and handling Cadillac. all the the vehicles look good inside and out all have good potential for what you want. but reliability goes to the lexus. and i like reliability for everyday use including weekends.
@AdrianC12345 you are claiming the AWD SHO would have trouble out braking the RWD Beamer? Lol and you can say the pushrod V8 in the SS is "1990s" all day but it will still out perform the beamer just like the pushrod V8 in the Z06 and Camaro Outperform BMWs... I also left out the CTS-V which os better than any BMW in my opinion.
What? What? I even compare the EVO with the great Veyron... time attach, rally, drag, efficiency, how many people fit in there, price, the look,...etc EVO wins most races! xD EVO with full Luxury after market parts... BMW or LEXUS.. not even close... Boom! Big time! hehe
I meant an A4 with a 6 cylinder engine. The 4 cylinder ones still have the crappy Haldex afaik.
1. Lexus
2.BMW
3. Cadilac
yes, yes and no lol
More like Lexus, Cadillac then BMW
im european and i agree
1-BMW 328i xdrive
2-Lexus is 250
3-Cadillac Cruze...oh shit i'm sorry ATS all GM's just sort of blend together for me
I'd prefer seeing the Lexus parked in my driveway. You can tell that more heart has going into making it. The BMW just looks like an appliance...
i am a Lexus fan but i will be getting the the 328ix - i just want a change and it's true the 328 has something in its DNA but i must say I am trembling a bit when i think of ownership after the warranty runs out - My 1999 Lexus ES 300 has 540000 km - no major issues - my 2007 IS 350 has 372,000 KM - burn a little oil but no thing else except maintenance -I love the 328ix but i suspect the germans will make make me pay in blood.
Actually you could easily get an IS350 close in price to a decently equipped 328i. Similarly equipped, a 3 series will always be close to $10k more expensive than either the Cadillac or the Lexus. Just one example: you've got full lighting packages on the Lexus and Cadillac, while your Bimmer still has halogen lights.
What about reliability and mpg
Same story for the IS350 vs ATS V6 vs 335i, the 3er rips them too.
I have 2 cars is250 and bmw 328i .... my opinion is250 driving is more comfortable and oil is very economical
do the test again once the infiniti q50 goes on sell...
Not surprised with the outcome. Edmunds' reviews are traditionally biased against Toyotas and Lexus'. Even if Lexus addressed the weaknesses that these "reviewers" made a song and dance about, Edmunds would still rank it below against the Germans and Cadillac.
i bet you were testing the is250. the 350 would at least match the bmw
You need to take v6 engines of these vehicles into the mohalland canyon road, also add the q50 to this please comparo thank you
Lexus. Every. Single. Day.
jelly1928 i like and respect Lexi...but you are no car enthusiast if you'd rather daily drive an is250 over a 328i. you're going off styling.
lol calm down bro, i like lexus
But the 350
+Hamann I do too
Guy says BMW interior doesnt try to hard. When an employee doesnt try to hard I fire them. Especially if they havent tried hard for over a decade because the BMW's interior still lools like a boring spaceship.
You buy a sports sedan the first reason being how it drives and in this case, the bmw wins
Lol
Pursuit of Perfection.
PS I post this on every ATS video I come across: I will never purchase a car with only touch-actuated buttons. Requires too much precision for driving. Big knobs, big buttons, simple interfaces. Easy to find without taking your eyes off the road.
Yep, the BMW's transmission really has it beat at this stage of the game!
well I'm sure BMW buyers are aware of what they're getting into. If they properly maintain the car and take good care of it it'll last as long as a Lexus or longer. It all depends on the driver. If you're going to turn down a beautiful BMW because of it's reliability issues then be my guest but they're called the perfect driving machine for a reason.
No debate? So what's the 740i? There is no 3 for its 3.0 liter engine. And the e60 528i was also a 3.0 liter inline 6 before the F10 528i went to a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine. The numbers are all over the place.
I watched this review on Motor Trend, Car and Driver, Consumer Reports, and now Edmunds. CU likes the BMW like Edmonds giving it a close second. The other two preferred the Cadillac if it did not have the Cue system saying it was the better driving car. It seems to me if you want the best driving car, Cadillac is the one to chose. For best ergonomics and second place driving, the BMW wins. Lexus still does not have much of a clue for performance still.
BMW is a great drivers car w/rear wheel drive. The audi just isn't a drivers car but it is a better passenger vehicle.
Two Turbo motors against a naturally aspirated one of the same displacement, guess who wins? This new bmw motor has been praised by everyone who has tested it. Not surprisingly they have underrated the hp as it's really a class above this other units. The only down side is the black interior, which does the best job hiding how fisher price the dash is, That nav screen looks like they crazy glued it to the dash, after someone forgot to include it into the design.. Bmw would still b my choice.
Bmws dont gave turbo lag. Its a low boost pressure and they use twin turbos in sequence to eliminate lag.
to really make this fair, BMW should bring the 320i, which, is the true base engine of 3 series, and the price difference would be smaller too. But yes I agree with you. Lexus should update their 2.5l engine in order to be competitive in this segment.
As much as I like the 3. You need to make this fair and put a IS350
Y’all talking about the transmission without realize the Cadillac and the BMW have the same transmission look up the 6L50 and what cars it was in
That gray Lexus looks stunning.
The reason why they are using the 250 is obvious, since they are using the 328, not the 335, the 2.0T Caddy not the 3.6, so why use the 350?
Um, the BMW and Cadillac both have V6 engines too! Only they are 3.0l and 3.6l. The IS they tested had the 2.5.
I'm surprised at how slow the Lexus apparently was, according to Car and Driver. Regardless, I'd still take it over the others based on it's cool, sporty styling, and the reliability of which Lexus is known for.
it was not a fare fight, the IS had the 2.5 litre engine, but the ATS and the 335i had bigger engines
BMW!
@Issa Vibez easily
You can get an Is 350 for the same price of the others and "all" would have around 300 HP. That would be a real comparison! Lexus should win "Hands down"
How is this unfair? THe BMW and Cadillac both had 4 cylinder engines while the Lexus had their 2.5 liter 6 which is inferior to the turbo 4s it's competitors used. This isn't the fault of the journalists but Lexus themselves as they haven't updated their base engine to better compete in this segment. This is fair game.
OMG, people who are whining about how they shouldve used the IS350, get it through your head, these are the lower level entry models of each manufacturer. You dont compare an IS 350 to a 328i, you compare it to a 335i or a caddy 3.6 ATS not the 2.0T...
Lexus seriously has to step up their game with the IS250
Waiting for another review with the is350 so we be fare
I 100% agree with you.
Since when this review is not fair? the IS250 is 2.5 litre car and the 328i is a 2.0 litre car. Check your facts please.
@@syazrinamzar 2l turbo smuck big difference
Still the 335i is faster than the ATS 3.6 and the Is 350 in the real world. The ATS NEEDS the 8 speed in development ASAP.
No you're wrong bmw's had frequent repairs especially on the fourth year of usage the engine tends to stall and sometimes the airconditioning unit shuts off
I can't stand why you used the IS 250 for a comparison this big. IS 350?
next step, Q50. G37 was the closest car on the market to a 3 series, want to know how is the new infitniti works.
BMW extended warranty helps, Actually their basic warranty is soo great
the ats it does iv seen it and the 320 is coming out in the fall
definitely look at the 328i with the 2.0 liter turbo and 8 speed auto with x drive. They have this auto shut off mode which got some getting used too, but i heard you can deactivate that if you dont like it, although i never really deactivated it. The 8 speed automatic with the 2.0 liter is such a good combo, you wont regret it and also the fuel mileage is pretty good, in fact much better than expected, was returning over 30mpg on the hwy
Yeah, most of them clustering in California. I heard that they're commonplace now, Tesla's actually outselling all of its competitors, such as the BMW 7 series, Mercedes-Benz S Class, etc.
How come they use the is250 instead of the is350 if they're comparing it with the 328 wtf??
