I see Static as the Spider Man of DC, I mean that in terms of the character and not popularity. If DC made a live action movie for Static and made it good I think it could give the Spider Man movies a run for their money.
Spiderman and Static have the same similarities. But the reason why D.C. Universe doesn't want to make a Static Movie is because Static is Black. They think if they make a movie of a Black super hero they wouldn't make enough money by the movie. In my opinion Marvel should buy the character of Static since D.C. Universe sucks at making movies.
@@Bohnezzzzzz That's just your stupid logic. Right now Black panther made over a billion dollars and back then blade made millions and was a successful franchise. Also why would DC make a show about Black lightning if they didn't think it was gonna be successful.
*YES! THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS!* Static is by far my favorite DC super hero, next to Batman of course. His personality is a lot like Peter Parker's and I felt he was the most relatable superhero for me growing up.
Joseph Ben-Obasa yes he inspired me when I was a kid it wasn't many black cartoon characters yet alone a black superhero when static shock came out I finally seen someone who looks like me
i'd literally give anything to pitch to DC a live action Static Shock for Netflix. I dream of it Edit: can't believe I wrote this six years ago back when I was 20 with a notebook full of ideas. I guess dreams do come true

Spidey is my all time favorite Superhero, but he could certainly learn from Static about balancing his hero life and his real life. Virgil did right what Peter Parker did wrong. He was a geek who was picked on all the time, but when the chance came to choose between right and wrong, he chose right, unlike Peter who made one of the worst decisions that haunts him til this day. Virgil actively seeks new opportunities for himself, being an apprentice at Star Labs, and thinks before he acts.
All I had to relate to when growing up was that static show. Never thought a hero could be black let alone have his OWN SHOW before that. It changed my life in a way. *Thanks to all who were involved with it's creation.*
My parents wouldn't let me see this show when it aired in the early 2000's because the main protagonist was of African American race, I always was left out on conversations of the other kids in my elementary school.
***** I'm not, my father though, that's a different, you see he has African Americans stigmatized as "Law breakers" and "Of poor taste of culture and unethical". Me however, I have plenty of African American friends.
Ivy Kenso Lol there was actually an episode similar to that. Static finds out his best friend's dad is... well like yours. Guess he could've learned something from the show himself.
you didn't miss much, i was never a fan of static shock as i felt it took away all of the stuff that made static relatable in the first place. the absence of any other milestone characters, no holocaust in the show either.
I see where your coming from but I wouldn't recommend watching it. It was like a rip off show he didn't mean nothing like he doesn't even have movies to this day hes dead now #RipStatic
Ya gotta admit, Arris kinda rocks. He can talk really really REALLY fast, but still fairly understandable, has an obvious love for both Marvel and DC comics, and is just kinda funny.
Loved the cartoon series, it dealt with a lot of real and untouched issues most shows wouldn't go near but I found myself unable to get into the comic universe of it but I may track down the revamp and see if its any better, didn't know they had done that.
That's weird, after I read the comics I had a tough time watching certain episodes of the cartoon because of how toned down things were in comparison to the comics
With the way Hollywood is, along with some stupid Directors, they'll probably make Static a White Guy or someone that doesn't resemble a dark skinned Black Man. It's just a feeling I have.
Does anybody else notice a trend with black DC characters Static Black lightning Steel Cyborg They all have some sort of metallics or electrical powers to them. Its probably not intentional tho. Kinda funny
Static was a Milestone character first. Actually, a lot of this video's history doesn't even touch on the material right. It's like they only used the cartoon as reference.

Love your videos!!. I have seen many channels that talk about comics, but you don't sound boring and you have great delivery!!. Not to knock other channels. I know everyone tries, but some people have it, and some people don't. Static was created by Michael Davis, who was one of the original founders/ owners of Milestone Media. Although those other creators contributed a great deal to the character, it was Michael's creation before Robert Washington and John Paul Leon were ever involved.

Hot-Streak wasn't nearly as deadly as Holocaust in the comics though. Since Hot-Streak needed friction to build up to use fire whereas Holocaust could use his fire power freely like the way Hot-Streak was portrayed in the animated series.
I loved the animated series for Static. Specially after his friend was revealed to be a meta also. Gear was awesome friend/side kick. It would be so awesome if they brought him into the tv universe through the flash series. That one episode when they talked about other metas before the explosion? I honestly thought that was a reference to Static.
This is perfect, I was just going to watch Static Shock just finished Justice League unlimited and the whole Batman TAS, plus first season of young justice. Hopefully, the series is awesome :D
Static Shock seems to manipulate electro magnetism while with Black Lightning electro magnetism is only a sub category of his powers. Black Lightning can do a bit more but I feel SS is more creative. And I also like their student/mentor friendship.
His character actually wasn't in the comics. But he was instead an amalgam of two of Static's friends. The closest one to him physically and character wise was Richard "Rick" Stone.
It's been 8 months since this very good history of Static was posted. It's also been 8 months since a glaring and important omission about the creators was brought to your attention. Michael Davis and Christopher Priest also helped create the character, but for some reason this information has not been added to the video. A simple text label would clarify the info. I'm at a loss why you wouldn't do so.
Honestly, he wouldn't be too far put of place in the current story arc about Godspeed. But then again, they are using it to introduce New 52 Wally West Kid Flash... Then again, New 52 Wally West and Static would be a good match on the upcoming Teen Titans series. I realize this comment was originally made in February but I felt like sharing my PoV from September.
Comics or TV show? Cause he actually fits right into the origins of the show given that he originally got his powers from the "big bang"/chemicals and that in the flash all the metas got hit with the particle accelerator explosion..they could spin the story that he was visiting central city at the time and dicovered his powers later like how Cisco didnt become vibe until much later. Deffinatly think most people watching thenarrowverse grew up watching static shock and would love to see him in it.
I think the only way to figure that one out is to put them into the ring.....so without further a-doo I think its time for a DEATH BATTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Michael Iv you sure, all cole gets is fire powers when evil Thanks to Hot Streak, Static has WAY too much experience fighting against that being good however gives him ice powers, but once again, Static also has experience goin up agaist that type of fighting style thanks to "Aqua-Maria"(I think that was here name) so again, a useless try and since they can both absorb electricity, their normal powers as well wouldent really be worthwhile to fight with takin it down this road would mean more of a hand to hand combat, which obviously, Cole would win, BUT it has been shown that these are times where static has gotten the most creative, as this wouldn't be the 1st time his powers were useless/couldn't be used so in the end, their still pretty evenly matched, so like I said before, I believe the only way to figure this out is to put them in the ring, so with out further ado its time for a DEATH BATTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not because of the pyrokinesis, because he is much more powerful. InFamous 1= Cole gained a massive power increase due to using the Ray Sphere Infamous 2= He became *The Beast*, a Conduit with immense powers that are borderline Godlike
Michael Iv that's not really an argument as the same could be said about the 'good path' as well the only real difference between the two is how the power are handled the 'good' side concentrates his power in to one blast to make sure that when it hits the target, no one else gets hurt as well the 'evil' is the flip side to that, 'discharging' all his power into the suroundings hurting anyone and everyone in the area, since he doesn't care, as long as he takes out his target the best examples are the grenades, for the good side, you get the 'Sticky Grenades' which stays on the target and hurts only him when it explodes, the evil side gets the 'Cluster Grenades' which, once it hits something, will spread and cover an entire area, and once it explodes the damage done, is usually no different than any other bomb of the same level its the same with the 'elements' as well, the ice grenades freezes targets, while the fir, destroys the area in the end the big difference between the two sides is "Focus" and "Quantity" cuz in the end he's just as powerful in either path, its just how its used that makes him different
Static has always been one of my favorite characters. I loved the animated series, and hope to read one of the comics someday. I also would love to see a live action "Static" movie.
With the Teen Titans ending with issue #30 I would like to see Red Robin join batman in the Batman and Robin series and I think they should bring out a new Teen Titans series with Static Shock as the leader
NO! I demand Caitlin Fairchild be the leader. She was screwed in the Superboy comic, and screwed out of leading the Ravagers. Although I do want Static on the team, I think Caitlin is the best choice for leader. DC, you better not screw her over completely.
static shock as leader?........ no not ever, no NEVER!!! friggin a rock could do a better job of leading a team than static could since he really doesnt have so much power anyway heck spiderman could beat him let alone batman
***** I don't see leader as part of his nature. To me Virgil is DC's answer to Peter Parker, the smart but a bit of a goofball, rateable teen. Being leader compromises that status, and makes his character less effective. Caitlin on the other hand is born for the role of leader. She is smart, strong, still a bit of a green horn, and always has a great dynamic with her team mates. So like I said, Static should be on the team as the character the reader relates to, while Caitlin is the strong yet still human leader, who keeps the pace of the story, and holds the team together.
my first intro to static was the tv series. i watched it religiously. and i freakin loved his catch phrase at the end of his intro. "the name's static. i put a shock to your system."
Doctor Nemo.... only noticed when he wants to be. So when people are searching for him and he wants to be unnoticed that means that people are Finding Nemo. It cant be a coincidence.
Static Shock TAS is basicly the first i saw. I thought that was Statics first appearence. But dang did they do well. Although i feel that his references date the other shows like Batman and Superman. Glad to know that the big bang was the big starter in more than just the cartoon since they changed it in the Young justice show.
Check out Grace Randolph's Beyond the Trailer channel. She did character profiles for each Guardian. Go to her channel and search for Guardians of the Galaxy 2014. Also, check out IGN's UA-cam channel as well. Just search for Guardians of the Galaxy. Hope this helps :)
Static shock is pretty kool I remember when I first heard of him was when they made his cartoon I loved it I I woke up early every morning to watch kids wb and my mom would be like so you can get up on time for your cartoons but it's a war to get you up for school.hehehe 😦😂
Dwayne McDuffie, Derek Dingle, Denys Cowan, Christopher Priest, & Michael Davis created Static, as I'm sure you've heard by now. An update/edit of the feature would be a good idea.
What an underrated super-hero. His TV show was so great, I wish his comics were as popular. I'd give my left nut to see him in a feature film, but I guess i'll settle with Black Panther for now.
+14megasxlr i know, his show was awesome, i've never read his comic i'll buy em if i ever see them. since i don't buy comics that much. Static Shock was such a cool hero, and they wrote the characters so well in the show. from what he was saying, it looks like the show's origin story for Static isn't too different from the comics which is always good. if anything, i want another animated series for Static.. i miss watching the WB on saturday mornings, they always had awesome shows..
Seriously Static shock was probably my first and favorite superhero ever, He touched hardcore topics sometimes and he had this attitude that was just the coolest
Anyone know where Kite-man is? I see too much potential in him. Anyone else think we need a 52 version of him? With the wing suit and some high tech stuff he would be a perfect robber and a criminal. Give him a good story and we got a winner :D
Afro zekepick Well Black Panther made history, but it was Marvel so yeah lol DC just “don’t care” for movies! There I said it pun and all!
Afro zekepick It’s ridiculous

I really miss that show, such a great potential and relevant storylines... Although superman whould be my number one.

Static deserves a movie like yesterday, he also forgot to talk about the civil rights influence the character has

Future you it’s going to happen
We are getting one, but unfortunately DC just completely rewrote him in this reboot and completely muddled the character. We'll see which one we get.

I like how resourceful Static was portrayed in the comics, the metallic disc used to be a garbage can bin.
In the show it was when he first learned he could do that then his friend made an actual metallic disc
I didn't know Static Shock had so many episodes. Definitely gonna download those.

the revamp was pretty toned down. also issue one was ridiculously wordy and the art style was.. well some people loved it some loathed it.
In the new 52, i don't think static is not getting the spotlight that he deserves as he has potential.
He probably died in Apokolips War.
I WANT A STATIC SHOCK MOVIE!!!
+CrazyDaisy Terra ...or a new live action series like Arrow and the Flash. Im good with eirther so long as they do good.

the Static cartoon was the shit back then, MAN Those were the days
My favorite Superhero...

i would love another static shock show with today's technology
SUPERHERO STATIC SHOCK WHOO WHOO
Thank you for bringing more light to static. He is a great hero who is barely seen. he gets a couple cameos and thats it.

They just might.
Who would win in a fight between Static Shock and Cole MacGrath?
I think the only way to figure that one out is to put them into the ring.....so without further a-doo
I think its time for a DEATH BATTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Depends on which Cole. I cannot tell if he was good, but he would definitely win if evil
Michael Iv
you sure, all cole gets is fire powers when evil
Thanks to Hot Streak, Static has WAY too much experience fighting against that
being good however gives him ice powers, but once again, Static also has experience goin up agaist that type of fighting style thanks to "Aqua-Maria"(I think that was here name) so again, a useless try
and since they can both absorb electricity, their normal powers as well wouldent really be worthwhile to fight with
takin it down this road would mean more of a hand to hand combat, which obviously, Cole would win, BUT it has been shown that these are times where static has gotten the most creative, as this wouldn't be the 1st time his powers were useless/couldn't be used
so in the end, their still pretty evenly matched, so like I said before, I believe the only way to figure this out is to put them in the ring, so with out further ado
its time for a DEATH BATTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not because of the pyrokinesis, because he is much more powerful.
InFamous 1= Cole gained a massive power increase due to using the Ray Sphere
Infamous 2= He became *The Beast*, a Conduit with immense powers that are borderline Godlike
Michael Iv
that's not really an argument as the same could be said about the 'good path' as well the only real difference between the two is how the power are handled
the 'good' side concentrates his power in to one blast to make sure that when it hits the target, no one else gets hurt as well
the 'evil' is the flip side to that, 'discharging' all his power into the suroundings hurting anyone and everyone in the area, since he doesn't care, as long as he takes out his target
the best examples are the grenades, for the good side, you get the 'Sticky Grenades' which stays on the target and hurts only him when it explodes, the evil side gets the 'Cluster Grenades' which, once it hits something, will spread and cover an entire area, and once it explodes the damage done, is usually no different than any other bomb of the same level
its the same with the 'elements' as well, the ice grenades freezes targets, while the fir, destroys the area
in the end the big difference between the two sides is "Focus" and "Quantity" cuz in the end he's just as powerful in either path, its just how its used that makes him different
Eh....no.
***** static is more than capable to lead teen titans.
*****
I don't see leader as part of his nature.
What about Ebon my favorite villain from static shock.
where did you get your spider-man shirt I want one! I want a shirt before the movie comes out.
my first intro to static was the tv series. i watched it religiously. and i freakin loved his catch phrase at the end of his intro. "the name's static. i put a shock to your system."
Doctor Nemo.... only noticed when he wants to be. So when people are searching for him and he wants to be unnoticed that means that people are Finding Nemo. It cant be a coincidence.
One of my favorites... and the crossover with Batman is really something. "How did you know... you're really the world's great detective"
You reminded of young justice, excuse me whilst I go cry in a corner for a few hours about that wonderful work of art being canceled.
Static Shock TAS is basicly the first i saw. I thought that was Statics first appearence. But dang did they do well. Although i feel that his references date the other shows like Batman and Superman.
Glad to know that the big bang was the big starter in more than just the cartoon since they changed it in the Young justice show.
How about the history of Guardians of the Galaxy ? I would like to hear about them please?
Check out Grace Randolph's Beyond the Trailer channel. She did character profiles for each Guardian. Go to her channel and search for Guardians of the Galaxy 2014. Also, check out IGN's UA-cam channel as well. Just search for Guardians of the Galaxy. Hope this helps :)
Yes dude, I owe you a beer. Thanks
No problem! Though I'm not a dude, a beer would still be appreciated.
Well..Interesting how that turned out lol. I'm sorry. We are still up for that beer though?
Great episode! Static is definitely one of my favourite superheroes due to the fact that he is from my generation xD
Awesome. Thanks for doing a history of Static.
The cartoon was one of the coolest things I ever saw as a kid. Static's an awesome character.
DC is better at animated movies/shows while Marvel is better at live action.
The God I want to agree, but I feel Marvels live action movies are boring. I love animated DC films though.
I'm guessing you never saw the Xmen and Spiderman animated series cause they were just as good as Batman in the 90s.
Can you talk about how powerful Static is?
the image at 2:54, where did that come from? i never saw that in young justice
That was photoshopped. Virgil never wore the mask, goggles or the shirt with the symbol on the show
Idk why, but I feel like Static would absolutely flourish in Marvel, and ngl I feel like they'd do him better, since DC kinda do him dirty
Static shock is pretty kool I remember when I first heard of him was when they made his cartoon I loved it I I woke up early every morning to watch kids wb and my mom would be like so you can get up on time for your cartoons but it's a war to get you up for school.hehehe 😦😂
lol
Richard Rodriguez lol same!
Facts!! 😂😂
So in-depth!!! Amazing job
They need to bring back static and have his own comic again
Dwayne McDuffie, Derek Dingle, Denys Cowan, Christopher Priest, & Michael Davis created Static, as I'm sure you've heard by now. An update/edit of the feature would be a good idea.
static shock was the shit growing up ,bought all the dvds
i'm not sure let me check, no they don't have it. :( I just checked amazon
Thanks for bringing this great character back out of the attic! I miss this one.
I freakin love static shock. And I loved the show even more. It was freakin awesome
He was my boy growing up. Loved Static. Still my favorite
What an underrated super-hero.
His TV show was so great, I wish his comics were as popular. I'd give my left nut to see him in a feature film, but I guess i'll settle with Black Panther for now.
+14megasxlr
i know, his show was awesome, i've never read his comic i'll buy em if i ever see them. since i don't buy comics that much.
You know the Variant logo reminds me of the logo for the Vanguard card games..
He was my favorite superhero growing up! with that flying trash can lid of his and static powers, man he was AWESOME. Excited about the movie too!
Need a Static Shock movie with ASAP Rocky !!
Fuck no!😡 Jett Jackson better choice. . .
[R.I.P Jet Jackson😘]
That comment made my eyes sting...
FUCK NOOOOO!!!!😡😡😡😠😠
Could you some more episodes on the other members of the milestone-verse? There's very little on them out there besides static.
"I'll put a shock to your system" .
"Dr. Nemo, has the power to be noticed when he wants to be"
Wish I had that power back in highschool
Back in my day we had good tv shows about real life stories and good story lines. Not teens singing about waffles and meatballs.
Still, we do have a few good cartoons. Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Adventure Time, and Star Vs. The Forces of Evil.
+Peridot thank u
+nobody
Only 00s kids remember
I USED TO LOVE THIS SHOW :D
Anyone know where Kite-man is? I see too much potential in him. Anyone else think we need a 52 version of him? With the wing suit and some high tech stuff he would be a perfect robber and a criminal. Give him a good story and we got a winner :D
Static Shock 2022 confirmed!
