That's a wise comment man. Either way in muslim countries we can see a variety of iterations of the holy guidelines. From Morocco to Azerbaijan, from Yemen to Syria and then in Malaysia and Iran women's condition and behavior can be different and in several respects can be poles apart from country to country. Regrettably I have to remark that most of muslim youtubers don't feel comfortable talking about stuff as such in this video. At a stage they give up... I can't get why.
For a Pakistani you are extremely progressive. You may be one, but hopefully your mindset will become a majority. Might take generations though. Maybe you will make a difference.

As a Muslim woman, I have always felt Arab Muslim men / African Muslim men and even American Muslim men hate women.... Sad to say, but I am being honest... She is right, and I support EVERYTHING SHE IS SAYING!!! She is doing a great job speaking for those who cannot!!!
I think the problem with people discussing this is that many people view it as racist or prejudice towards people of Muslim faith.... I feel like people need to open there eyes more and see what's right in front of them. To be fair though Catholics, Christians, Jews, atheists, men, women, black, white, and so on, really aren't good at taking criticism without saying it's prejudice..... I myself am Catholic, but unlike some other catholics I can actually open my eyes, and listen to what people have to say, and sometimes there right.... Like when people criticize the Catholic church of being greedy.... It's true, and they talk a lot of nonsense as well.... It's just one of those things that will get better with time, but either way wish you luck finding the right one🥂
Talk about insecurity. Being Muslim doesn’t amount to “knowing” and “verifying” Arab culture or their behaviour in general. Stop pretending to “know” the Arab/Muslim world. You don’t even exercise modesty at all.
I have listened to many Muslim men on youtube talking about prospective wives, and wives, their daughters and sisters.... it was all too depressing. They certainly hate western women, but they seemed to despise Muslim women just as much. I listened to religious leaders advising fathers not to be in the same room as their little daughters incase they became aroused.... good grief this was their daughters!!!! Men laughing about how many wives they could have, and how to get rid of them. Little girls being married off when their bodies were too young to give birth. I could go on. There must be a high degree of mental health issues within the Muslim female community... but because of their circumstances never gets treated. One lady stated she had been abused physically and mentally for 45 years in her marriage.... she was simply told she would be rewarded after her death for perservering. Truly depressing, no one should have to endure this, when the UK has laws in place to protect women from physical and controlling behaviour.

This woman who you admire is either very ill informed or deliberately misinforms the very naive and emotional Western audience. For example, she constantly talks about FGM (female genital mutilation) in Islamic world. FGM is not an Islamic issue, it is a cultural issue which she does not (I think deliberately) mention. My background is Iranian, I am an atheist but I have to push back and say that there is no such a thing as FGM. In fact, I had never heard of it until I moved to Canada at the age of 20 and heard it from Oprah who, similar to this woman is very good at generalization without much research. It would be beneficial for general audience to mention that some of the countries with high cases of FGM are not Muslim majority countries, e.g. Ethiopia, Ivory Coast and Uganda

Let's not forget the terrorism of the US or that the US is no pioneer for women's right, esp. considering they are the ones backing Saudi Arabia and death squads all over that take out egalitarian democracies that put people over profits. I agree with a lot of what the speaker says, but forgetting the US's role in this is ridiculous. And I have been indoctrinated with sexism as much as anyone, even though it's wrong, I find myself let down that there are no men fighting to defend and protect their own sisters and wives. When a culture encodes into law and sanctions the abuse and terrorism of its most vulnerable property, there is a toxic kind of self-hatred at work that I pray doesn't spread like disease. No one, anywhere, should stand by in silence frankly while a beautiful car has its gears stripped by a bad driver, or while a dog is beaten by its owner, or while people walk into a holy place with light clean carpets wearing outdoor shoes. I'd like to see a woman interviewing her. This would be more credible. If my English was better I would destroy her generalizing claims in a few minutes. Because it's absolute bs, what she's saying. First of all, not all the Arabic speaking cultures are the same. There are s.c. Arabs from Maghreb to Sham (Syria&Iraq). There is a huge difference between those mentalities. And a lot of Arab men may be more conservative than western men. But that doesn't mean, that they hate women. Japanese men are more traditional, too. Their wives stay at home, if they got children. Does this mean that they hate women??? As I was in a few Arab countries, like for example Morocco or Egypt, I noticed that simply education is important. A farmer from the village is not similar to an educated arabic man from the city. There's a big difference.
"He says,'Thank you for being extreme`''!!!??? In what way is she extreme? By Western standards she is very moderate and reasonable, not to say extremely brave, intelligent and articulate
Islam claims that men are a degree above women and are their guardians who can discipline them for being disobedient as prescribed by allah to protect them. An ideology that only allows multiple wives but not multiple husbands is sexist. An ideology which claims that men are the guardians of women (who can discipline them when they are disobedient) as prescribed by allah to protect them is sexist. An ideology which provides virgins for men in heaven but no such equivalent for women is not only sexist but really twisted as well. It is no less offensive to me than an ideology which promotes white supremacy (but there is so much more about islam which is extremely contemptible other than the overt sexism). Google worst countries for women (almost all muslim) and best countries for women (none are muslim), google Gender Gap Index (it is about much more than wage equality), no muslim countries in the top 50, most of the worst 50 countries are muslim. It seems that secular teachings and man's laws are much more effective at protecting women than god's laws and teachings.. This couldn't possibly be so if allah was truly the all-knowing omnipotent creator of the world which he is purported to be. Women have been executed for being raped in muslim countries. Western women have been imprisoned for being raped in muslim countries. Today girls and women have been, are being and will be killed by their own family members because off this ideology they espouse, yesterday girls and women were killed by their own family members because of this ideology they espouse (and so many Western leaders and other apologists pander to enabling its proliferation) and tomorrow girls and women will be killed by their own family members because of this barbaric 7th century ignorance.
@Sassy Sue When one religion is so much more malignant than the others, it is imperative that we acknowledge that it is because it is. It is blatantly obvious yet so many refuse to do so and even vilify those who do as being bigoted. BUT in my opinion, exactly these women, who have the mean to, must speak up. because even if they are not the majority but we all did encounter oppressed female friends that come from different backgrounds in our Arabic society. also, males suffer from that but on a smaller scale, so they adopt it as they grow up because it is eventually in their favor.

The host uses the fact some women support abusive men as an argument that men don't hate women. But that is like saying if an abused wife doesn't leave her husband it means he never abused her. Women with abusive spouses are groomed to think his abuse is their fault. They will blame a hubby's beating on personal failure and imperfection, or excuse it as work stress, drinking, or other external problems. They will often cover for him saying they walked into a door or fell down stairs in order to cover the abuse, and they are likely to remain cowering beside him even when they have support to leave. This doesn't mean they are not abused. It means they've been groomed into compliance and at a subconscious level have internalised the abusive teachings. The same is true for women who support terrorist hubby's, or Arab hubby's who mistreat, demean and restrict them.
A certain level of discipline is required to keep societies intact. A completely free Western society is on the verge of collapse with the entire family structure in shambles, high divorce rates, adultery rates, young girls selling themselves on sites like Only-Fans. This is because Western females aren't disciplined anymore and are pampered too much, when their liberal parents tell them that they deserve everything, that is very dangerous, is the reason why everyone in the West is so entitled and materialistic, and can't form lasting relationships, leading them to be single and lonely, thus higher depression rates.
Reading your comment made me reminiscent of my grandmother. For 40 years straight she was beaten and verbally abused by my grandfather. But she always stood by him and never left his side. Being told what food to eat and how to dress seems normal because every woman they know is treated the same. Being sexually mutilated and raped and forced marriage seems normal also because thats all they have ever seen with the women they know. That is horrific abuse and some of those women are far too beaten down to even call it abuse. Living in that depth of fear is so very sad.
the format is that of a tough interview. they're not intended to undermine the subject, rather they're to dig at deeper truths that the subject might be hiding or is not fully conscious of. it's public scrutiny. mehdi excels at this and guests should know what to expect when they appear
You must haven't actually watched the whole video if you really think that. Mehdi literally says, several times in the interview, that he *agrees with her* views on gender inequality in the Arab world. It is his job though to ask as many critical questions as possible in those 40 minutes that he gets to confront her. The show wouldn't have been called Head to Head if he was nodding all the time, agreeing with every statement she makes. I actually believe he gave her the perfect platform to spread her philosophy, which has now reached you and me and I think that's a good thing.
Even in rural India, there is oppression of women. There are activists in India who fight for the rights of those women. The difference here is that in India, the activists can fight from within India. But the Arab activist had to come out of her country to be safe, alive and to be able to speak up
we all know how hindoos are so clean and civilized, the amount of gangrapes by high caste women and their lack of punishment proves your utter bullshit
At least rapists have been convincted and laws are being changed. For you, you dont even have laws, you have no respect for women. If a woman gets raped, its her fault and you guys make the woman marry her rapist.. India is not in that condition at least
I am in awe of how she handled herself amongst many, when a person comes out like she did, it showed how prepared and truthful she was, there was no one in the crowd that could compete with having the last word, From this, I am sure that those who were sceptic and against her, had a difference of their original opinion, well done Mona,
In Christianity women are not just a bed toy in addition to 72 other bed toys like in Islam and that for ETERNITY !! Mark 12:24 24 Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? 25 When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. Lk 20.36 and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God’s children, since they are children of the resurrection.

Indeed! It's exhausting to look at, as Mona Eltahawy is being cut off, attacked and stressed out. She's doing a splended job of speaking out for those without a voice. Unfortunately men and especially Muslim men live in such an established entitlement that they don't even notice the injustice and gender inequality.
@@yasminedey8612 well if I say I partially agree Muslim men doesn't allow full freedom to their women but what about the western men they some times abondun their own girl frnds or wives at the time of child which shows that those men has a more sick mind because they are running away from their own responsibility ...as far as host is concerned he has done a remarkable job Infront of a woman who was constantly generalising things and was adamnant on her views which were wrong
@@Mazaq_mania24 I am glad you are aware of the misogyny in the Muslim world, that's already the first step to changement, as Mona Eltahawy is trying to explain. She isn't generalising the topic or Muslim men, but actually explaining that men are not naturally misogynist but the Muslim society, denying women equality, makes them that way. Sexism is a negative aspect in the religion, which is produced by purely the society, besides that unfortunately all organised religions, not only Abrahamism, which also includes Judaism and Christianity, are sexist. This is my friend what you probably subconsciously mention by bringing up the topig of men abandoning their children, a problem found in general in society - not only as you like putting it in Christianity.

He's challenging her views so we get an honest and understandable answer, watch more head to head, and you'll see he is like this in every single debate, even when he agrees with the other's opinion, he still challenges it, this is amazing journalism, something we don't have anymore thanks to people like you who automatically assume it's a battle, instead of seeing for what it is, a debate
I feel sorry for these types of men who are so jealous and/or threatened by women. God must be so angry with these inhuman attitudes toward (His) people, and this weak man made Religion against Him. This will not end well!!
It takes a strong woman to sit there for 40 some minutes with hatred from all sides coming at her-good for her for not caring about what they think and standing up for what she knows is right.
i get people's criticism of mona, but really if you watch this carefully, his challenges to her, actually allows her to shine and really show that she is correct in what she is saying.
Hello World! Just because she shows tenacity doesn’t qualify her as being correct. She speaks through ignorance about islam. Calling for a ban on the Nekaab, what a confused lady. On the one hand wants to empower women and on the other hand wants to oppress them by banning the nikaab. What a hypocrite, foisting her liberal western feminist ideology. That’s the height of oppression!
@@waheedabashir4898 Islam is fundamentally misogynist and the world would be better off without it. The nikaab exists to cover women because they are considered a man's property their whole lives, so yes, it should never have been invented. It over-sexualizes women, even children, and it doesn't prevent any of the things apologists claim it does (rape, sexual harassment, etc.). All it does is assert that a woman's hair, neck, etc. are fundamentally sexual in nature, her body is inherently lewd and must be covered up, and if it isn't she's fair game for abuse (even though she will be abused even if she keeps it on). I'm disgusted by men I see in the summer in board shorts, wife beater, douchebag chains and sandals, walking around with a woman in a full burka, totally black (they are never white, unlike most men's clothing in the arab region; if she's lucky it could be blue; a not-so-subtle hint they don't want women walking around outside?).
As an outsider, I always wonder why Arab men hate Arab women? She took the words right out of my mouth. I think heaven that I was not born in that world. Pure luck.
Seems like you missed the point of the debate, he's questioning the focus of the comment "Do all men hate women?" His point being, you tend to gloss over many other critical issues by placing the blame squarely on one demographic.

She isnt against the veil, she's against the fact that it's a requirement for Muslim women to wear a veil in order to be percieved as the "ideal" Muslim believer. Mona standing up to all those people criticizing her, she's for sure an alpha
She is against the veil, and call it a mask not a veil, she wants women to have the same rights and visibility as men. She hopes down the line it will pave a path for women to actually be able to make decisions regarding their lives and futures.
Well, it is a requirement bcs the religion said so. So for one to be percieved a good believer you would assume they would follow said requirements, basic logic. Muslim man themselves also arent allowed to show anything from the knees untill the belly button. It isnt a one way street.
@@imad337 nobody wants to see your genitals anyway. Keeping your genitals to yourself is called decency. A woman's face is not her genitals. Start covering yourself up like a woman and you'll understand the suffering they go through. Btw the imam said that nowhere in the Quran is a hijab or burkha mentioned. These are practices introduced by misogynistic maulanas.
@@doctorpaints8025 We as muslim men arent just not allowed to show our genitals but also not allowed to show our general ab area and upper legs (from the knee up). Also the majority of scholars agreed overall that some form of covering the head is mentioned in the quran for women. While technically it isnt necessarily a "hijab" bcs the word didnt exist back then, the hijab fullfills this purpose properly. Dont try to change up our religion bcs of one random imaam and you misusing what he said. You also arent allowed to force a hijab to a women, which a no arab country does. Even Saudi Arabia you are allowed to not wear a hijab if you choose to. So I dont get what you mean with "suffering". How is wearing a hijab to show your religious believes suffering? Its the islamophobes who made it an issue for women by ridiculing them and forcing them to take it off by law in certain places.

Either way in muslim countries we can see a variety of iterations of the holy guidelines.

Its truth muslim and arab men are top world misogyny and patriachy and most toxic men in the world
As a western I agree. The more Muslim men come to area the more unsafe that are becomes especially for women.

She easily and respectfully crushed both arguments. If people are feeling uncomfortable about the subject, that's a good thing. Mission accomplished. Change does not occur from one's comfort zone.
But here, in most homes, you can fight it. My brothers always thought they were smarter than me & they were always trying to put me down. I never understood why they were doing this.

@Sassy Sue It is ridiculous to equate any other religion to islam. What world do you live in?
@Sassy Sue When one religion is so much more malignant than the others, it is imperative that we acknowledge that it is because it is. It is blatantly obvious yet so many refuse to do so and even vilify those who do as being bigoted.
There is nothing bigoted about being contemptuous of extremely virulent ignorance (and those who espouse it without whom it would be harmless) created by a sadistic, inbreeding, 7th century pedophile warlord who is still the role model for nearly a quarter of the world's population.

Perfect imagery.
"india has millions of pending rape cASES"So would most islamic countries, that is if they actually prosecuted by law like india does.
SilveradoNL so your india a self declared superpower has similar problems to pakistan and afghanistan
I am in awe of how she handled herself amongst many, when a person comes out like she did, it showed how prepared and truthful she was, there was no one in the crowd that could compete with having the last word, From this, I am sure that those who were sceptic and against her, had a difference of their original opinion, well done Mona,
The problem here is having a journalist who has taken one side.He cannot be objective and his questioning is totally inappropriate.
he is an ARAB man with the very issues she is speaking up against.
Totally agree ! It ruins the interview
@@chops9674 but proves her point, although I think women should be free to wear hijab or niqab
I just watched a video, an American soldier in Afghanistan speaks about the American soldiers raping muslim women just because they can.
I live in South Africa, here our rights are protected. The countries that are politically oppressed are experiencing this. Muslim men are trying to protect their mothers, wives and daughters from the monsters that are oppressing them, unfortunately, they are coming off as if they are the oppressors.
Nobody is speaking up about the west's abuse of the Muslim women but everyone sees the Muslim man trying to marry off his daughter to protect her
She's much more intelligent than her interviewer.
Much more hypocrite
Agree! She is brilliant.
But she is a woman dear.. We in the west are just as women haters than the Arab countries.. paticulatly in the US.. where domestic violence is out of hand
I agree and all my blessings with her as she is taking out time from her life and doing such a fantastic job...all the best Mona
He knew it too thats why he kept getting triggered.
The host makes this interview look like a grilling session, such an entitled chauvinist
Look the host was doing his job in asking the question and yeah he was male so you would definitely call him chauvinistic because maybe be you have forgotten what is a host job to do ...asking questions
Rubbish. He's like this with every person he question's
Lol..this guy proves her point at every words he says, every body movement he makes and every second of this interview.
You realize he's not against her right? He's challenging her views so we get an honest and understandable answer, watch more head to head, and you'll see he is like this in every single debate, even when he agrees with the other's opinion, he still challenges it, this is amazing journalism, something we don't have anymore thanks to people like you who automatically assume it's a battle, instead of seeing for what it is, a debate
Why is the guy alternately warm and welcoming and then hostile? It seems like he’s personally offended by her views. Which is exactly why she’s there.
Editing. He probably got angrier over the interview but they edited it to make it seem nicer
I feel sorry for these types of men who are so jealous and/or threatened by women. God must be so angry with these inhuman attitudes toward (His) people, and this weak man made Religion against Him. This will not end well!!
Well he's challenging her views, what's wrong with that? This is a debate after all.
It's part of his job smdh
This style is standard for Mehdi. He pushes the people he interviews hard. Mona Eltahawy did excellently.
It takes a strong woman to sit there for 40 some minutes with hatred from all sides coming at her-good for her for not caring about what they think and standing up for what she knows is right.
What a FABULOUS WOMAN...!!! I can't find words adequate enough to praise her !!!
Layla A shut UP Layla .... you’re the idiot in here...just listen and learn.
Not only arab man but also Indian man also. 👍
This woman is a hero to all women in the Arab world. Keep fighting for women's rights sister. :)
You have no d
The arab women don’t want to be liberated I think she should stop wasting her energy for them.
As an Arab woman, I don't see her as my hero. I don't need a hero, buddy.
@@avalonroyce then stay being treated like a slave to your men
@@jessicarabbit142 You're quite dumb, aren't you?
i get people's criticism of mona, but really if you watch this carefully, his challenges to her, actually allows her to shine and really show that she is correct in what she is saying.
She's doing great in a hostile interview. She's got an answer for everything.
That’s the height of oppression!
movingdragons thats.because the truth never lies..👍👍
When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
It's fine to wear your black cloths covering your face, just do it in your own country
@Layla A The interviewer hates women as well or cotton wooled his eyes through religion.
As an outsider, I always wonder why Arab men hate Arab women? She took the words right out of my mouth. I think heaven that I was not born in that world. Pure luck.
The host's attitude answers the question
J wylie yet he is not arab
He's more idiot than those he's talking about.
J Wylie exactly !
Seems like you missed the point of the debate, he's questioning the focus of the comment "Do all men hate women?"
His point being, you tend to gloss over many other critical issues by placing the blame squarely on one demographic.
The host is probably from India or pakistan. They are as bad if not more. Really, he is so irritating because he has "personal, emotional and maybe hormonal" issues lol. He is very very bad that he started taking sides. She is right. she rocks.I support u billion percentage. I am proud of u.never stop.
She isnt against the veil, she's against the fact that it's a requirement for Muslim women to wear a veil in order to be percieved as the "ideal" Muslim believer. Mona standing up to all those people criticizing her, she's for sure an alpha
Yes yes strong will be kill
Well, I live in Egypt and as a woman I agree that MYSOGYNY is a vivid reality.
Ignorance is mainly the cause of the hate...
Interesting documentary. Ty.
Egypt has all sorts of problems. It's crazy; modern military, third world lifestyles.
I'm sorry 😔 Hope you are ok
And because of shameless journalists like this guy
When I went on holiday to sharm I didn’t see one Egyptian woman in two weeks do they hide you away ??
@NA Phiri who
Watched the entire video. This was a great discussion that needed to be had. Even if you don't fully agree with her, she definitely will push everyone to THINK about this issue, which is a good thing!
I am ASHAMED of this host! It seems like he is aggressing his guest, not listening, interrupting, provoking, and condescending. I am SO proud of her! She is brave , fearless, articulate, intelligent, classy, gracious, compassionate, and funny too!
