You are such a southern belle!!! I love it!!!!! I’m from NC and it put a smile on my face hearing your accent :) And thanks for the video, I have an Eclectus as of a couple of days ago, so I’ll have to make sure I can incorporate all of those ingredients. I heard my baby boy’s digestive tract/system is pickier than most other parrots. This is my very first bird so wish me luck. Be well!
Chop and/or mash are an important part of a bird's diet, but unless you have an Eclectus, or a bird that thrives on a mostly plant-based diet, neither should not be fed as the main diet. Tops pellets are a good, organic pellet, but they are not fortified with any added vitamins or minerals, so they too should not be the main food for most birds for the same reason listed above. Vitamin and mineral supplements are no longer recommended because of the risk of organ damage, another reason to add a fortifed pellet to the diet. Supplements should only be given under the supervision of an avian vet. Labs are needed to determine the need. Most avian vets that study nutrition say to feed a nutritionally balanced pellet as 50%-70% of the total diet to ensure they get the needed vitamins pellets safely offer.
What a great video! I learned so much and made it look so simple! It seams my birds are most hungry in morning and again at dinner. I have 2 green wing macaws. Picky eaters for sure! I feed Tops pellets in bowl. Then use a 'wet bowl' for fruit etc...but, feel just not getting enough variety, so your recipe is great!! When your birds are done eating, do you leave 'pellets' in food bowl all day? Wondering if I should remove it between meals? Thanks for any ideas!! 🦋🦅🦋
Hi! Same here. My guys are hungry in the morning and then in the evening. I leave the wet food in their bowls for a couple of hours and then feed them pellets for the rest of the day; In the afternoon I like to give them treats such as fruit and nuts or whatever is looking good that day. I don't leave the wet food in the bowl for more than a couple of hours because it tends to sour. Thank you for your comment!
I have been struggling to find something different for my conure to eat and you showed me the way. I can't wait to make it for my bird and have some myself. That was terrific. I look forward to more videos with more food ideas. You are a great bird parent.
That was interesting :). I've totally changed up how I feed my fresh foods since we've lived in the RV - everything is about space here! That was a GREAT video, Janice, really enjoyed it :). Hi Lefty!
Such a great video! Im sure my lil guy Kiko (hes a caique) will love your chop mix recipe! Im so happy i have most of these ingredients on hand already! wahoo! subscribed 💚🦜
I got a cheap food processor from Walmart. I am new at making chop. I have jalapeños, bell peppers, and cauliflower, I give them mixed frozen veggies everyday, frozen, and heat about an ounce, in my microwave, then drain it. l find my conure prefers it more refined. I have 2 budgies too. I love your video! I am diabetic, and heard birds can be too. I NEVER add salt or sugar. We do give them Millet, and apples, but I try to ration. Do you ever add seasoning? Like chili pepper? Also, my BIGGEST question is veggie seeds!?! Are those safe?? Cucumber? I know some fruit seeds are toxic, I order a seed pellet mix, from Chewy. Not a huge fan of the ingredients. We know avocado 🥑, is a NO NO! I love your video, your super amazing, and thank you for the info. I just struggle, do I need to de-seed before I feed?
Hi! Great question. I leave a batch in the fridge for no more than a couple of days...you can easily smell it going rancid...I portion mine out..enough for two days and freeze it. We have an umbrella cockatoo and he munches on this daily. He is a very picky eater (he's a rescue and ate mostly sunflower seeds) so getting him to eat healthy is always a challenge. I give this to him along with his pellets and fresh veggies and nuts and fruit. If I can get him to eat anything healthy even by accident I'm happy. Thanks for watching!
Sandra I just watched your video and it was quite informative, I enjoyed it very much. I was curious as to what type of parrots you have? I have 2 Green Cheek Conures and 1 Indian Ringed Neck Parrot. I am in the beginning stages of getting my African Grey. I ask what kind of birds, because your back ground "music" sounded like smaller birds?
Hi! We have a Green Cheek Conure, Sun Conure, Quaker, an Umbrella Cockatoo and 3 white bellied Caiques...soon to be 4....have babies hatching. I'm happy you found the video informative. I have started using quinoa noodles and am trying to use more nutritious pasta...but they still gobble town the pasta I used in this video.
I give mine grapes, bananas, corn, blueberries scrambled eggs and a variety of nuts. Mine is not crazy about the pellet diet KT Exact. They drive me crazy. Homemade is probably best. Thank you!
I'm super excited about this meal! I will be using this for one version of a rat daily ration, with the leaves near to puree for the same reasons. Thank you sooo much for sharing! (Rats can eat almost anything... variety is main key, this won't be their only daily ration). Would this good for parakeets, doves, quail, button quail?
Mine get bored with their food , I add chillies different herbs , nutritional yeast, spices, forever trying to change it up, I'm going to try the cranberries next , thankyou
Love the video, I have one problem though. You're great, what to feed, when to feed and why you do it top marks. Every video about birds features a person making food for many birds. Whats the appropriate single bird portion size? I want to get an AG Parrot. I'm trying to learn before I get, and I have been looking for a while. What is a single bird portion for a day? :) Keep up the good work!
Wow Janice! I guess I really never knew what you fed a bird. I guess they don't live by bird seed alone....Learn something new everyday. How long does it take them to eat a helping like you showed Lefty eating? It's probably a very small serving--but it looks like it would take forever for them to eat it. LOL. Interesting video! XOXO~~Karen
Maw Maw Karen Hi Karen. That was about a tablespoon I gave Lefty. I give it to him around 2:00 pm and he munched on it all afternoon. He doesn’t eat all of it...just picks thru it and snacks on “the yummys” lol
Thank you, I hadn't thought of pasta for parrots just chooks. I've never actually seen someone using one of those choppers except on telemarketing.... USA is so different to us, its so funny when I watch people say "make sure its non sweetened", I have never seen "sweetened coconut", or half the other pre packed ingredients you guys have. 🦘🦘🦘
This looks so much easier then what I do and when I am done he doesn’t even like it 🙄. I make pasta small and he just gets the pasta. I follow a group and it’s not a lot of pasta and fresh chop but what good is it if he doesn’t eat it after all that work and I have been doing it for years

Good recipe! Birds are so funny about their food! I have a cockatiel that loves veggies and Indian ringneck who loves fruit.
That was interesting :). I've totally changed up how I feed my fresh foods since we've lived in the RV - everything is about space here! That was a GREAT video, Janice, really enjoyed it :). Hi Lefty!
Thanks Sherry!

Sharon Capehart It is Sharon...unless I add hot peppers! Lol
You are such a good bird mama, lucky babies. And you look so pretty, your hair is cute! Is it bad there? We have ice. XOXO
cindynok Yes! It’s icy cold and wet. I’m so ready for spring!

Amazing but if you want to or i reccomend is to use fresh veggies and fruit :)
This was helpful.
Lucky birdies
The_animal_ Ark Thank you!
Great recepe thanks how long would a bowl of food like these last in the fridge before going bad and would you recommend this diet to a cockatoo.

is it possible you could meal prep it? i just dont have a lot of time and i know my parents wont do this for me(im 14)
Yes, you can make a batch and freeze it inside a ziploc bag. Just thaw portions at a time before you feed your birds.
Awesome my Kiko will love it. What is the brand of pellets you give to your babies? I am new still learning what's best. Thanks in advance 😊
Sandra

I just adore your birds. I've had cockatiels in the past. When I retire I would love to get more. Which of your birds do you find is the most social?
April Swearingen The caiques...Sam &Sally.

Vesta Hall I’m so happy this helps. I believe it would be fine for most birds.

So sorry! I haven’t been in YT for a while…we give our UT about a quarter cup…along with his regular pellets.
Bless you! Thank you so much.

Do I have to boil these vegetables before giving it to my birds ?
Is it suitable for African Grey parrots??
Cool 👍 , is pasta safe for them?
Nelson Rodriguez I have never had any problems...this is just part of their diet.
Thank you, I hadn't thought of pasta for parrots just chooks.
I've never actually seen someone using one of those choppers except on telemarketing....

What kind of birds do you have?
Is pasta healthy for them ?
Your using super sweet corn??
i like this
This looks so much easier then what I do and when I am done he doesn’t even like it 🙄. I make pasta small and he just gets the pasta. I follow a group and it’s not a lot of pasta and fresh chop but what good is it if he doesn’t eat it after all that work and I have been doing it for years
Hi I'm a new baby owner he's about 9 weeks stil I producing him to fruit and veg is this ok to give him now
I wouldn't include the pasta...it's empty calories.
Do you freeze ?
yes I do...
I add quinoa too!
How long can u store it in the refrigerator?
Sanchana Chandrasekar a couple of days.
Processed veggies n fruit are ok sometimes. Raw is better
Do they get this daily?
Yes they get some sort of veggies daily. I've played off the pasta these days as they are eating the veggies much better.
i want some of that XD
Would Eclectus parrots like this?
I don’t have one but you could make a small batch and give it a try.
My bird won't eat this once it's been frozen if I make a big batch ....sh don't like the wetness I've if I dry with a towel she knows ..what do I do
i'm really getting hungry
Hi are u best
Your parrots r breeding
Interesting... that is A LOT of carbs.
Do they really like peppers that would be spicy 🥵
Oh yes! Just be sure not to get kisses after they eat them. lol
Parrots don’t taste the heat from spicy peppers :)
Cayenne pepper is even used as a pain reliever for parrots!
JALAPEÑOS?????
They don't have saliva so heat doesn't bother them
