I think it was 1978 or thereabouts I had the immense pleasure, and privilege, of seeing Ray and his band Raydio play live at the London Hammersmith Odeon venue. Although a rock music fan, I had gone through a disco appreciation phase and had their albums which I thought were quite superb. They were OUTSTANDING live, man could they SING!!
A few folks have pointed out his not mentioning the Huey Lewis song. The fact that a lawsuit was settled suggests that they all knew there was some overlap. But he still had to come up with a way to incorporate the title, and make it work with the movie. He certainly did something to make it his own.
This is a segment of an one hour show, in the studio part of the show we have talked about it. But it only being in Dutch we don't put it here on UA-cam 🙂
I was hoping for a studio interview, and they would talk about the Korg Poly 61. That's the lead synth rif for anybody interested btw. Anyway, interesting story, and nice guy, this Ray Parker.
it says a lot about a song when Randoms pipe up into conversations because you ask your pal" who you gonna call" when referring to one pal or other in the pub of course the answer IS "ghostbusters " every single time

There’s a confidentiality agreement regarding the case and settlement so he’s not allowed to comment much about it. Though it should be noted that even after the case was settled, the song remains credited to Ray Parker Jr.

lol I was wondering if they would reference that part. In his defense he didn't really steal the whole song he just stole that riff and it's not exactly the most unique thing ever
That is BS..you reffering to Huey lewis. There are two songs which similar to the music in the verse only. The melody is completely original and the rest of the music pre chorus . chorus all original. Hook he explains is original 90% original go back a check I did
I heard that while they were filming, they played “New Drug” for the crowd to dance to, and told Ray Parker that the song has to have a similar rhythm for the editing, so he was kind of stuck with it and got screwed legally.

Amazing , was and still is one of my favorite eighties songs and film
brilliant. and this series you guys have been doing forever is so great.
Thank you so much! Spread the word 🙂
❤ Excellent ❤
Ghostbusters went to number one in charts!
The best thing about this movie was the soundtrack. When I saw it in cinema everyone sang along in the house..I mean everyone shouting it!
Wat een leuk verhaal!
Met een glimlach zitten kijken, ik was de clip helemaal vergeten. Busting makes me feel good

Brilliant brilliant song probably the most catch song of the 80s, love or hate you’ll be singing that chorus! Lol
Wat een leuke video! En dit is echt het verhaal achter het nummer, hoe hij op het idee is gekomen 🥰🥰
Bustin' makes me feel good!
That was a whole bunch of fun! A great parody song on banal corporate advertising culture.
That. Was. Terrific!
It’s the call and response element people love, make no mistake!

Some overlap? Hahaha
Uitstekende inhoud... zoals gewoon! 😊 Tx
This song always reminds me of Disco's at Boarding School. Such a unique song for Blur. Britpop does Grunge.
Had no idea 'who that gonna write'.
Nice story.
Never saw the clip, nor his face.
There was the controversy between the Huey Lewis song and this one; this wasn't mentioned but was a thing, of course. 👻

Nobody cares, just the song. Your average chick would not care they would just sing the song!

No mention of Huey Lewis then? We're just going to ignore that part of the song's history?
We don't always have to dig the same dirt, and this channel is more of a feel good channel imo.

They forgot to mention the stolen bass line from Huey Lewis’ “I want a new drug”.

Would be tacky to ask him I suppose.
I didn't hear it. Now that you mentioned it, there is a slight similarities. But nothing worth mentioning...👻🚫👻🚫
Which was in turn lifted from M’s Pop Muzik 😊
Most songs have similarities?
Come on Ray ! He didn't even mention that he had to pay Huey Lewis for completely stealing his song "Brand New Drug" !!
Hmm, I hear the bass line, to start with...
And that guitar...
Keys...

Whos the bird?
Why was this filmed in Zürich? I don't see a concert scheduled there?
I was asking myself the same thing.
I went to the USA on holiday with my girlfriend and we rented a car, the woman who did the “intake” asked me if I wanted to be insured for everything and when I asked what that ment she said , accidents and car trouble sir , because you’re gonna drive in remote places and if u have car trouble , who you gonna call? He should at least mention the interpolation from the "Huey Lewis and the News" song "I Want a New Drug"

No mentioning of Huey Lewis I got a new drug which the song's bass line was copied from.
And we shall thank Huey Lewis and the News!

Ray Parker steals a song and then explains how he wrote it.
