Me, my Brother and my Sister, scattered my Mum's Ashes in Salisbury Woodland last year, next to that Creek. What a lovely place to perform such a ceremony.
Hi Stephen thank you for another great video as always aww I love parakeets so colourful yes very noisy too you always find different things a very adventurous man was very interesting to watch take care xx
Hi 👋 Steven are lovely to here the Beautiful birds 🦅. It’s so nice when you here the bird singing Wow another fantastic video the weather looks Beautiful 🤩 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
It used to be a tight squeeze to get inside the Pillbox, for me at least. 😂 And today I learned that a few wrens can be seen mooching about between the Pillbox and the brook. So, that's my next few days challenge sorted then, to photograph a wren. Hopefully my faithful guard dog will not frighten them away while he scampers around. There are also some vary rare species of trees there. Somebody pointed them out to me once, but it went in one ear and out the other just as quick.
Blackpool zoo I believe was the very early aero strip 1st airport I live on bowness ave there is a few pilboxs around us back end of Blackpool airport. John Rooney st Anne's Lancashire uk
A very nice video, Stephen. Salisbury Woodland park is a calming place I can see, and surprisingly, that bunker still there well after WWII. I never knew that the aerodrome was in that area, and if that so called 'development comes into fruition, it will ruin the place. You can't believe that a golf course could ever become under threat, as if there is any need for more housing! Many thanks, Stephen.
Great video Stephen, lovely to see a rare piece of history still in one piece, and in lovely surroundings. I especially like the pics of the wildlife you captured. Great work pal!
Hi if you go to Blackpool rd north st Anne's Lancashire uk very bottom turn right on your left in the trees pilbox. John Rooney st Anne's Lancashire uk
Another great video. Maybe you could check out the shelter or old bus stop shelter at Spen Corner. Waterloo Road and Ansdell Raod. It has a sealed off section and a steel plate to keep us out!
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool Hello. We used to live just round the corner on Waterloo Road from 1949 to1964 and my brother and I went to Waterloo Primary school. The building was a bus shelter and had a machine that clocked each bus time. I think it was clocked by the conductor or by an inspector travelling on that particular bus. I played in there but could never pull the clocking time stamp lever probably because a key was needed. I also spent a lot of playing out time climbing the trees round the building and I've been the roof. As you know, it's brick built and looking at it from Ansdell Road, the left section was always sealed up. This section has the steel plate on the end facing what we always knew as the little park. I never heard any suggestion that this sealed section was a toilet and I played there from around 1953 or so. We always knew it as an air raid shelter but thinking about it, would a household brick building be put up there as an air raid shelter? Would it protect against bomb blasts? Maybe a toilet is the answer. At any rate, someone with a nose for exploring around Blackpool with a camera could do a project and a UA-cam video on it??? While you're round there have a look at the two iron gate posts on the diagonal corner by the traffic lights if they haven't been ripped out. They were just by the tram stop and shelter that stood right on Waterloo Road corner and was possibly Edwardian. Both of these were fascinating to me until we moved away. The tram shelter had a wooden bench curved round its corner and walking to school, I often saw several old chaps in there having a smoke. I remember the smell of Woodies and pipe tobacco was really strong on some, probably wet day. One last site, sadly now gone, was the pumping station just along Andsdell Road on the same side as the shelter. Th entrance to Waterloo Road school with a small car park now occupies the site. There used to be a large concrete covered tank under the present ca park with a small square opening. When was small, I could look down into the tank and see and hearing the water rush. Hope all this is interesting and worthy of your investigation/videos. I'll bet that there are a good number of your subscribers who will remember these buildings. Keep up the good work and all the best.
I was in Stanley Park yesterday (May 25). I didn't see any parakeets and I'd like to see one. I've seen that pillbox ages ago and forgotten it was there so thanks for reminding me.
Over fifty years ago it was called Woodland Gardens and a couple of those bridges had wooden huts with benches on them where you could shelter from the rain. I guess nowadays those huts would be an ideal place for nonces to ambush kids. Sad how things have turned out.
When we were nippers we used the pill box as a bog that's why they bricked the door up n were the zoo is was land fill Devi rail bridge also has a pill box and battlements so to speak hurricane fighters were scrapped at the old zoo airadrome sight
We really want to keep hidden gems to ourselves don't we?? I used to work on the zoo and I used to walk my dog down there can you tell me what you believe is all over the top of the water in Stanley Park
As someone who was born in bred in Blackpool and who keeps an eye on what's going on politically I'm worried that the shit is going to hit the fan and we are going to end up rising about the immigration stuff so really places like this should be kept quiet! My father built a lot of the tunnels under Blackpool and all over the UK but I don't want to fight for a place in one of them if things go wrong?? By the way if you got knowledge of any more of these please message me and Navy we can help one another if a situation arises

I can remember seeing that bunker when I worked for the parks dept back in the mid 80s.

Very pretty area 🙂
Dad always took me and my brother to play Pooh sticks on many of those wooden bridges
Don’t know when the pill box was concreted shut though

I use to be a volunteer there
Got a rare 2 storey pill box near me
My dad used to play round there with his brother
I used to walk round woodland gardens about 1980 with my baby sister who was two. I used to tell her we were in fairyland aww
Was that a lesser spotted woodland bachelor at 4:14 (in centre of shot)?
Bachelorette I’d say.
😂👍🏻 well observed
Does the Zoo still have the control tower? I know they turned the hangars into a kids playplace.
Yes, I think the control tower is still there.
Go on Walk on the Wild Side find us one that we could stand to be stuck in for hours on end we may just need it
Interesting
You certainly know your exotic birds Stephen " a ring necked parakeet" just by its call.It looked like they were flying wild & free?
Wild garlic will overtake absolutely every spare piece of land that it can.
IV reported that nasty comment no need for it I love seeing your videos ❤️❤️
If the authorities wanted to get into the pill box for some reason would they tunnel into it 🌟
Looks like a cheap room in the metropole hotel
the soldier had a banett on is rifle but vandals snapped it off...john south shore...?.
Naughty.
blimey I'd get lost lol 😄
Why do Council want to sell things of beauty. Absolutely crazy

Would you feel as safe sat there today
Is this the one near Blackpool zoo
It has to be
Yes it is the one by blackpool zoo
Yes, I mentioned the zoo several times.
Did you know Hitler used to come to Blackpool he really enjoyed it here
Not very secret if you found it.
This place has many creepy blokes wanting male company, many wait in cars in the road overlooking it. Such a shame.
I never knew about that until it was mentioned a few times in the comments.
