The flare is there for a very specific purpose, to remind the pilot that there is a potential obstruction near his tail rotors.
i live in a small community in Nevada if we are too sick or injured to go byground over an hour to the las Vegas hospital we go by helicopter i have gone 2 x saved my life in the 31 years i have been here we have lost 2 crews and 3 helicopters as a result of crashes mercy air is the operator

@@tobycameron317 if you train with a medical helicopter crew, they tell you do not use flares. Their bosses get mad when you burn UK a helicopter.

dont use flares use the big red trucks to mark hazzards and use cones and lights to mark LZ ... its not rocket science.
